Gautam Gambhir Flies Back Home From England. Reports Reveals Concerning Factor
Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir is returning home from England as his mother is in ICU, according to news agency PTI. Gambhir travelled to England before the members of the senior team in order to monitor how the junior side (India A) fares against England Lions in the 2-match unofficial Test series. On Friday, when India was set to play an intra-squad match for the series, the news agency claimed that Gambhir was returning to India due to a family emergency. Another such family matter had earlier prompted Gambhir to fly back home from Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The report said Gambhir had to fly back to attend to his mother, who suffered a heart attack and is currently in ICU in a New Delhi hospital.
"Gautam's mother had a heart attack on Wednesday. He and his family left for India on Thursday and they have reached Delhi," news agency PTI quoted sources as saying on Friday.

In Gambhir's absence, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate will assume the team's charge during the four-day intra-squad match between India and India A, beginning here from Friday.
He will have assistance from other coaching staff such as bowling coach Morne Morkel and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak.
Gambhir is expected to return to England in a week's time if everything goes well at his home.
"His mother is showing signs of recovery although she is still in the ICU. In all likelihood, he will be back in the UK before the start of the opening Test (starting June 20) if all goes well.'

Gambhir flies back due to family emergency
New Delhi: A week before India begins their five-match Test series against England in Leeds, head coach Gautam Gambhir has flown back home due to a family emergency. Gambhir had been with the Indian team at Beckenham ahead of their intra-squad practice match starting on Friday. 'Yes it came to the light yesterday that Gambhir would be flying back home due to an important family emergency related to his mother. As of now, we believe that Gambhir has already linked up with his family in New Delhi. 'Keeping in mind the current situation, it's not known yet about when he would join the India team ahead of the Test series' commencement,' said sources aware of development to IANS on Friday. In Gambhir's absence, alongside batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, bowling coach Morne Morkel, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and fielding coach T Dilip will help the Indian team prepare for the upcoming Test series against Ben Stokes-led England, which starts at Headingley. The Test tour of England will also be right-handed batter Shubman Gill's first assignment as the captain of the Indian team, following the retirement of Rohit Sharma last month. At 25 years and 258 days, Gill will also become the fifth-youngest cricketer to captain India in Tests. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will be India's vice-captain on the all-important Test series, which runs from June 20 to August 4. India and England will also play matches at Edgbaston in Birmingham, Lord's in London, Old Trafford in Manchester and The Oval in London. India are aiming to win a Test series in England for the first time since 2007. The Test series in England will also be India's first assignment in the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle.

'I am happy but not surprised by my win. I think this is what we train for, to win gold medals,' Suruchi said. When asked if there was any pressure on her after the first two successful editions of the World Cup, she said, 'Fortunately, I don't take pressure of winning medals at all. I have people around me who try to keep me away from the pressure. All I do is train and focus on each shot as that will help me improve. I don't think about the results,' she said. Quiz: Who's that IPL player? Former Commonwealth Games champion and now head coach of the pistol team, Samaresh Jung, feels it is the attitude that makes Suruchi such a force. 'She has been shooting fantastic. Her technique is good but what is unique about her shooting is her attitude. I have observed that anything below gold doesn't excite her. She thrives to win the top place on the podium and it is working very well for her. I am not sure how, but she needs to be protected from undue pressure and expectations from everybody around her,' Jung said. Meanwhile, Paris Games double medallist Manu couldn't qualify for the final after finishing 25th with 574. Palak was 36th with 570. In the men's 25m rapid fire pistol event, all three Indians failed to enter the 6-man final. Anish was the top shooter for India in the 18th spot (581). Vijayveer Sidhu (572) and Ankur Goel (571) were 36th and 37th respectively
