Senate bill hopes to provide resources for new, expecting Kentucky mothers

FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — Smiles filled Frankfort at the ceremonial signing of Senate Bill 74, known as the 'Momnibus Bill,' addressing the health care needs and challenges faced by pregnant women. 'We have tools now to help care for women during pregnancy,' said Dr. Lyndsey Neese of the Kentucky section of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists. Senate bill hopes to provide resources for new, expecting Kentucky mothers Goetta Life: Northern Kentucky factory slices up German-inspired sausage Kentucky mom pleads guilty to fatally shooting her 2 sons These tools include lactation education, medication access, and support from doulas, but it doesn't stop there. This bill supports mothers for up to a year after birth, providing mental health resources every step of the way. 'With perhaps a diagnosis, with a medication, perhaps with therapy, will lead to a more successful pregnancy. It often prevents pre-term birth; it helps with a normally grown baby because we have a healthy mother,' Neese said. In 2021, the Kentucky Department for Public Health reported a maternal mortality rate of 32.9 per 100,000 births. Google's Frightgeist has an idea What were these Lexington stores before they became Spirit Halloween? This bill addresses those numbers by creating a state maternal fatality review team. 'They found the things that they felt they could achieve at the legislative level here in Frankfort, and so I'm glad that they were able to identify those items that they were able to have an impact on and they went for it,' Mary Kathryn Delodder, director of the Kentucky Birth Coalition said. Advocates say the bill, signed by Secretary of State Michael Adams, is a long-awaited win for both mothers and those who work with new and expecting mothers. 'I want the landscape to look better for my children, and I have another daughter and two sons as well,' Delodder said. 'So, when they're ready to have families, I want to leave things better than we found them.' Copyright 2024 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
