Fans React to Hilarious Eagles Post After Tush Push is Not Banned

The Philadelphia Eagles aren't just known as Super Bowl champions — they've also become the face of the NFL's most controversial short-yardage play: the "tush push."
Whenever the Eagles' offense found themselves within one yard of the first down marker or the endzone, quarterback Jalen Hurts would line up under center with two teammates offset to the left and right of him in the backfield.

At the snap, the offensive line surged forward, and Hurts followed with a quarterback sneak. The two players behind Hurts would then shove him from behind, giving the play an extra push to secure the line to gain.

NFL owners meet annually to discuss potential rule changes, and this year in Minneapolis, the "tush push" was a hot topic. The Green Bay Packers submitted a proposal to ban the play, which went to a vote on Wednesday and required 24 votes to pass.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the final vote was 22–10 — and the tush push lives on. Those in favor of the vote, besides the Eagles, were the Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots, New York Jets and Detroit Lions, according to Schefter.

Immediately following the results, the Eagles' social media team celebrated with a post on social media.
"Push on," the team wrote.
The post featured the Eagles doing the "tush push" against none other than the Packers. Fans were quick to notice the playful jab and couldn't help but laugh on social media.
"The photo choice 🤣," one wrote.
"Social media team was waiting for this one 😂," another added.
"Absolutly fantastic work by the eagles PR team," wrote another.
"Against the Packers too… W admin lol," said a fan.
"Against the Packers, stay petty Philly 😭," one added.

"Against the packers 😂 Admin for the WIN," a fan wrote.
For now, the play lives on in the 2025 season.

Here's how and why Brock Purdy might win an NFL MVP award this season

NFL MVP doesn't necessarily go to the best player. It didn't last year. There are certain factors that make predicting NFL MVP easier. It's very likely going to a quarterback, as it has each of the last 12 years. It will go to a player whose team makes the postseason; only twice has MVP gone to a player from a non-playoff team and it hasn't happened since 1973. So if you're really good at predicting who will make the playoffs, you can reasonably cut the field down to 14 players before Week 1 ever kicks off. Advertisement Because the award doesn't necessarily go to the best player, other factors are involved. Voters in all sports like to spread the award around to new winners. Narratives come into play. A good story, especially late in the season, can make the difference. And long before the season starts, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy checks a lot of those boxes. Brock Purdy's odds for MVP Purdy is not one of the favorites to win MVP at this point in the offseason. His odds to win are 28-to-1 at BetMGM, which ranks him 10th on the list. Lamar Jackson is the favorite at +600 and Josh Allen is right behind him at +650, which is understandable. Those two regularly put up monster numbers for very good teams. Advertisement But both have won an MVP. Jackson has won two, and that probably was a factor in him not beating Allen for MVP last season. Maybe someone new will win this season. Don't forget that Purdy almost won MVP a couple seasons ago. He seemed to have a slight lead over the field late in the 2023 season when the 49ers were rolling and he was putting up good numbers. But the Ravens came to California for a high profile Week 16 Monday night game late in the season, Jackson outplayed Purdy in a major way, Baltimore blew out San Francisco and that was the end of the MVP race. But Purdy was in position to win once already and it wasn't long ago. There's a path for Purdy to get back in that position late this season. Brock Purdy signed a five-year, $265 million deal with the 49ers this offseason. (Photo by) (Christian Petersen via Getty Images) 49ers have an easy schedule The first obstacle for Purdy, oddly enough, might be the 49ers making the playoffs. San Francisco has been one of the best teams in the NFL over the past few seasons, but it missed the playoffs last season. The 49ers went 6-11. However, oddsmakers aren't worried about the 49ers. They have a win total of 10.5, one of the largest in the NFL. Advertisement One of the biggest reasons for optimism is the 49ers have an advantageous schedule. The 49ers' schedule isn't just the easiest in the NFL this season, according to Sharp Football Analysis (which uses opponents win totals to project schedule strength, it's the easiest by a wide margin. That not only helps the 49ers in their quest to get back to the playoffs, it will probably help Purdy's numbers. Mostly MVP races are decided late in the season, and Purdy has an incredibly soft final stretch to the season. There's not one game the 49ers can't win over the last eight weeks, and they don't face a single defense that should scare anyone. Even better for Purdy, three of the games are in prime time. Nobody's MVP case has ever been hurt by winning games on Sunday or Monday night late in the season: Week 11: at Cardinals Week 12: vs. Panthers (Monday night) Week 13: at Browns Week 14: bye Week 15: vs. Titans Week 16: at Colts (Monday night) Week 17: vs. Bears (Sunday night) Week 18: vs. Seahawks If Purdy plays well down the stretch and the 49ers make the playoffs, the narrative part will come along too. The 49ers have lost some talent, and the newly-paid Purdy would be credited for carrying a lesser supporting cast into the playoffs. He'll put up good numbers, as he always does in Kyle Shanahan's offense. And he doesn't need to be a better player than Jackson, Allen or anyone else above him in the list. MVP doesn't necessarily go to the best player. We've seen that. Purdy could finish the season with the numbers, team success, narrative and newness on his side. That would have him in the MVP discussion. That's all you could ever ask from a 28-to-1 shot.

2025 Chiefs game-by-game predictions: Can they keep the dynasty alive?

The Kansas City Chiefs went to a third straight Super Bowl last season, a first for a franchise in NFL history, but they enter 2025 with a chip on their shoulder. Their embarrassing 40-22 Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles served as an emphatic reminder of the work that must be done to keep their dynasty alive. Big picture, the Chiefs are still the team to beat in the AFC. They still have coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The offense will feature a healthier skill group in the new season, too. But they have an imposing first-place schedule, including a Super Bowl rematch with the Eagles in Week 2, as well as tough games against the Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills. Here are our game-by-game predictions for the Chiefs: When they kick off in São Paulo, Brazil, don't be surprised to see a motivated Chiefs team to start 2025. They've won seven straight against the AFC West-rival Chargers, too. Result: Win, 1-0 record Kansas City avenges its Super Bowl loss, showcasing improved play in the trenches (on both sides of the ball) and at wide receiver with a healthy Rashee Rice and fully integrated Hollywood Brown. Result: Win, 2-0 New York's defense, which adds No. 3 overall pick Abdul Carter to a deep pass-rushing group, could be a force to be reckoned with. But it won't be able to slow the Chiefs' offense down enough for its own offense to keep up. Result: Win, 3-0 The Ravens get back at the Chiefs, who won the regular-season opener between the teams last season. Kansas City could have issues against Baltimore's ascendant defense, which became a truly elite unit at the end of last season after a rough start under first-year coordinator Zach Orr. Result: Loss, 3-1 Even with Travis Hunter in the fold at cornerback for Jacksonville, it's hard to imagine that last season's NFL-worst pass defense will be able to adequately slow down Mahomes & Co. Result: Win, 4-1 A Trent McDuffie-led secondary will have a chance to prove itself against quarterback Jared Goff and a potent group of Detroit pass-catchers. Result: Win, 5-1 Las Vegas' offense is expected to run through rookie running back Ashton Jeanty, who could have a challenging day against the Kansas City front. The Chiefs ranked eighth in run defense in 2024. Result: Win, 6-1 With star quarterback Jayden Daniels in his second season and the Commanders' revamped supporting cast, Washington looks like a true Super Bowl contender. Kansas City learns that the hard way at home. Result: Loss, 6-2 The Chiefs may have the Bills' number in the playoffs, but not in the regular season, where Kansas City has lost four straight to Buffalo. A motivated Bills team makes that five straight, playing in front of their home fans. Result: Loss, 6-3 A road game in-division is never easy, but the Chiefs get two weeks to prepare for the rival Broncos. Reid also has a 22-4 record (.846) in the game following a bye, dating back to his time coaching the Eagles. Result: Win, 7-3 The Colts are poised to be a tough out this season, between their revamped defense and Jonathan Taylor-led rushing attack. But Steve Spagnuolo's defense should be able to exploit Indianapolis' weaknesses at quarterback, whether Anthony Richardson Sr. or Daniel Jones is on the field. Result: Win, 8-3 On a short week, the Chiefs fall to the Cowboys in a Thanksgiving stunner. Kansas City has its hands full covering CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. Result: Loss, 8-4 The Texans' new-look offensive line is a bit underwhelming on paper. The likes of George Karlaftis and Chris Jones figure to get plenty of pressure on quarterback C.J. Stroud, like they did in last season's divisional round, when the Chiefs sacked Houston's QB eight times. Result: Win, 9-4 The Chiefs sweep the Chargers for the third year in a row. Result: Win, 10-4 Even with No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward offering hope at quarterback, the Titans are at least one year away from competing with upper-echelon teams. Result: Win, 11-4 In their second Thursday game of the season, the Chiefs fall to the Broncos on Christmas, splitting the season series with Denver for the third year in a row. Result: Loss, 11-5 Kansas City gets a much-needed victory to end the regular season, sweeping Las Vegas for the second consecutive year. Result: Win While the Chiefs' vulnerabilities were exposed in their Super Bowl loss last season, they still got to the Super Bowl. They're the three-time reigning AFC champions — and they'll be healthier around Mahomes in 2025, on top of having a chip on their shoulder. Having the Eagles, Ravens, Lions and Commanders at home in their gauntlet of a schedule is a major plus, too. Reaching 15 regular-season wins for a second straight year will be a challenge, but the Chiefs should be in the mix for the AFC's No. 1 seed once again. Raiders 2025: Dont'e Thornton Jr. a prototypical throwback

Standing 6-foot-5 with 4.30-flat speed, wide receiver Dont'e Thornton Jr. is a throwback to the prototypical player the Raiders would've drafted based soley on size and speed. | Photo by Robin Alam/How does a wide receiver prospect who stands nearly 6-foot-5 and runs a 4.3-flat 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine not get taken until the fourth-round of the 2025 NFL Draft? When said prospect is viewed as a one-trick pony. Advertisement Despite measuring in at 6-foot-4 5/8 inches (nearly 6-foot-5) and 205 pounds and running a blazing 40, Tennessee wide receiver Dont'e Thornton Jr. didn't hear his name called until Day 3 of the draft. But he went to a team where a prospect of his nature would've been a much higher selection in eras past: The Las Vegas Raiders. By The Numbers: Don'te Thorton Jr., Wide Receiver, Tennessee 2024: 13 games, 26 receptions, 661 yards (25.4 yards per catch average), 6 touchdowns Career (2021-24): 47 total games (25 at Oregon, 22 at Tennessee), 65 receptions, 1,426 yards (21.9 yards per catch average, 10 touchdowns; 2 carries, 6 yards, 0 touchdowns At his size and speed, Thornton is a prototypical throwback to a point in history where those two attributes were the primary job requirements to sport Silver & Black. So much so that current Raiders owner Mark Davis quipped the selection was the 'Al Davis' pick. 'Yeah, Mark joked that was the Al Davis pick of this draft, the height, weight, speed, raw traits, athleticism, speed, and I think it's just focusing on what he can do and what he can be,' Las Vegas general manager John Spytek said of Thornton during a post draft press conference. 'I mean, he's a 4.3, low 4.3 guy. He's 6'4'-plus 200-something pounds, big-time five-star recruit, goes to Oregon, then goes to Tennessee. You watch his target tape, I think it's pretty impressive. And we think he hasn't hit his ceiling yet. We think he can still refine and improve under our coaches, but he definitely has physical traits that are outstanding.' While Thornton is viewed as single-skilled specialist coming out of Tennessee, that singular trick is one hell of a bang. He averaged a nation-leading 25.4 yards per catch in his final season for the Volunteers hauling in 26 passes for 661 yards and six touchdowns. It was a low-volume but electrifying senior season at Tennessee. Advertisement It's Thornton's 'scare you death' jets that offensive coordinator Chip Kelly must take advantage of — in any shape or way possible. Go-Go Gadget Speed Whether it was your standard fly/go routes or deep posts, Thornton's instant acceleration and breakaway speed were ever present this past season. The 2024 campaign was a season of career-high marks as Thornton was targeted 34 times with his production all being his collegiate career best. Thornton spent his first two years as an Oregon Duck before transferring and becoming a Tennessee Volunteer from 2023-24. As a field stretcher who tests a defense's athletic ability and discipline, Thornton is the type of receiving option the Raiders sorely missed. He's a unique blend of freakish physical profile and athleticism that many defensive backs can't run with. Whether it's sending him deep, using him on jet sweeps/end arounds, screens or even handing him the rock similar to how speedster Cordarrelle Patterson is used, Las Vegas should get the ball in Thornton's hands as much as possible to see what he can do. Advertisement Las Vegas lacked legitimate speed at the wide receiver position with third-year wideout Tre Tucker being the lone burner in the group last season who got consistent play. Spytek and head coach Pete Carroll addressed this by selecting Thornton with the 108th overall pick and also bringing Montana State's Tommy Mellott with the 213th overall pick in the sixth round. Mellott, a collegiate quarterback converting to wide receiver, is a lot smaller than his draft classmate at 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds, but clocked in a 4.39 40-yard dash time at Montana State's pro day. Route Refinement A really tall James Jett is Thorton's profile as he enters the NFL. This is due to the wideout's lack of a true route tree. Advertisement He's a tall receiver and it's that high-cut nature which pigeon holes his offensive impact. Yes, Kelly and the Raiders should without a doubt test defenses by sending Thornton on the routes he runs well: Fly/Go, deep corners and posts. But to make Thornton less predictable and more of a complete package, he'll need to spend time refining his route-running ability with wide receiver's coach Chris Betty to truly become a versatile option and not a one-trick pony in Kelly's offense. The instant acceleration is present on routes where Thornton can use his long legs to stride, but if he is able to develop short-area quickness and get in and out of breaks with little wasted movement, a 6-foot-5 target on slants, comebacks, curls, digs, and out routes is an enticing option for starting quarterback Geno Smith. Temper Year 1 expectations for Thornton as he's got plenty to prove in terms of the route tree and beating NFL-caliber press coverage. But if the defense makes a mistake, it'll be quite costly. Contested Catches That all said, Kelly is likely concocting ways he can use Thornton's 6-foot-5 frame and speed to be a jump-ball/contested catch nightmare. While the wide receiver's collegiate production/targets were erratic, the Raiders play caller can take advantage of Thorton's height and long arms from the jump. Advertisement Even when collegiate defensive backs were able to keep up with Thornton downfield, the receiver's ability to out jump and dominate at the catch point is extremely difficult to defend. While Thornton will meet pro defenders who are just as fast — if not faster — not many have the physical attributes combined with the mental game to keep up, look back to find the ball, and make a play on it against a very tall target.
