Marvel Rivals player count drops by over 50% amid Season 2 backlash

Time of India05-05-2025
Marvel Rivals
is seeing an all-time
low
player
count
, with more than half of its player base abandoning the game since January 2025. While this has raised concerns about the game's future, many are convinced that it's only a temporary drop before
NetEase Games
takes action and addresses popular community complaints and demands.

Marvel Rivals attracted over 10 million players within 72 hours of its launch on December 6, 2024. Ever since that day, the player count has only increased over time, with concurrent players reaching a record-breaking number of 644,269 on January 11, 2025. However, in a surprising turn of events, this player count has significantly dropped for the first time in the game's lifespan.

As of May 2025, Marvel Rivals' peak player count has
dropped by 362,000 players since January 2025
.
It is a significant
drop of 56.2%
as inferred from the latest SteamDB data. Currently, the 24-hour peak count sits at 159,426 players as of May 5, 2024.
The loss in player count could be attributed to several factors in
Marvel Rivals Season 2
. While the numbers can seem a bit shocking given the immensely successful status of the game, the actual daily players aren't surprised. They have been facing several issues in the latest season that contribute directly to this drop in player count in Marvel Rivals.
Why are players leaving Marvel Rivals?
Marvel Rivals Season 2 has introduced quite a few questionable changes that the community isn't quite happy about. From issues like smurfing to alienating balance changes, the latest update seems to have done the opposite of what NetEase Games intended. Let's take a look at the reasons why people are quitting Marvel Rivals in Season 2.
Smurfing in Marvel Rivals
has been a major concern this season. High-skilled players are constantly making new accounts and rolling over low-tier lobbies, making the game unpleasant and borderline unplayable at times.

Questionable balance changes in Marvel Rivals Season 2
significantly nerfs popular heroes like Doctor Strange and Spider-Man, making them ineffective in competitive matches. This disappoints a significant portion of the player base who mains these characters.
Furthermore, the changes impact the entire Strategists class, with their ineffectiveness being evident in the arena. This has caused many strategist mains to go on a community strike, which directly results in the lower player count.
Inconsistent point earning across classes
Marvel Rivals Season 2 favours individual performance over team play when it comes to earning points at the end of the match. Duelists who naturally secure more kills tend to earn more points compared to Vanguards and Strategists. This disparity has raised frustration in the community.
Will Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 revive the game?
NetEase Games has shown time and time again that player satisfaction and the game's enjoyability are their top priority. Seeing the current trend and the community being vocal about these issues, it's only a matter of time before NetEase Games addresses these issues.
Furthermore,
Marvel Rivals Season 2.5
is right around the corner, and with Ultron being anticipated as the new strategist hero, it can almost be said for certain that the players who left will come back to try him out.
The future of Marvel Rivals, thus, seems secure as NetEase Games strives to keep the game running for 10+ years.

Emma Stone Recalls Working With Ex Andrew Garfield: ‘I Only Have Fond Memories'

Emma Stone talked about the highs and lows of working on The Amazing Spider-Man films in the early 2010s. Emma Stone is looking back on the time when she portrayed Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man films. The two-time Oscar-winning actress fondly recalled the highs and lows of working in the short-lived Marvel superhero franchise, which also starred her ex-boyfriend Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man. She revealed that working on the films was a 'really special time" in her life. The 36-year-old was going over her most iconic looks from over the years when she was shown a photo of herself wearing a yellow dress at the 2014 London premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. After talking about her Versace gown, Emma told Vogue, 'I really loved doing Spider-Man. I loved everybody I worked with." The actress recalled meeting some amazing actors while working on the Spider-Man films, including her ex, whom she dated for nearly four years between 2011 and 2015. 'I met Andrew (Garfield) there. I met Sally Field. Marc Webb was wonderful. It was a really special time in my life. That's a recurring theme: The people, more than the film itself, is what sticks with me for so long. I only have fond memories of this experience," she further added. Emma Stone Recalls 'Psychotic' Press Tour For The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Despite the highs of starring in the superhero film series, Emma pointed out that she won't be missing one thing, and that is the rigorous press tour. She mentioned, 'I will say the press tours for these films — I don't really know how people do it." Recalling the tiring schedule, the La La Land actress explained, 'I remember it being nine countries in maybe two weeks, and you're functioning in a state of jet lag never previously known to you. I felt truly psychotic the entire time." Emma Stone debuted as Gwen Stacy, the love interest of Andrew Garfield's character Peter Parker, in 2012 with the film The Amazing Spider-Man. Directed by Marc Webb, the film was the reboot of the original Spider-Man trilogy led by Toby Maguire. Following mixed reviews from the audience, Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man films ended after the second movie and a new franchise of the superhero was brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Tom Holland suiting up as the iconic web-slinger. What's Next For Emma Stone? The 36-year-old actor-producer was most recently seen in the film Eddington. Directed by Ari Aster, the action comedy film tells the story of the COVID-19 pandemic era and the political and social turmoil that followed when a sheriff and a mayor contest for the mayoral election. Besides Emma, the film also features Pedro Pascal, Joaquin Phoenix, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O'Connell and Michael Ward, among others. As of now, Emma is gearing up for the release of the sci-fi black comedy Bugonia. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, the film is a remake of the 2003 Korean film Save the Green Planet! Bugonia, featuring Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias and Alicia Silverstone, will be released theatrically on October 24. Battlefield 6 open beta second weekend is again stacking up huge player counts, but this time, the beta version has shown several issues . Many players complained that they had to wait for a long time in the matchmaking queue to enter any mode, or some even couldn't access the party system properly. But besides all of these, Battlefield 6 has so much to offer to every player. For instance, PS5 players can claim an exclusive Soldier skin, that too without spending a single penny. However, the catch is that PS5 players need to have any kind of active PlayStation Plus subscription in order to avail this deal. Along with the skin, PS Plus members will also grant themselves double XP as well, which will indeed help them in leveling up faster. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Doorstep Car Pickup and Instant Payment Cars24 - Sell Your Car Sell Now Undo Players having an active subscription will instantly become eligible for this offer, as there is no separate process to claim them. PlayStation players already need an active PS Plus subscription to play the multiplayer modes of Battlefield 6. So, it means they have already availed these two rewards for themselves. However, players need to keep in mind that the Soldier Skin will be given away on the day of BF 6's full release, that means on October 10, 2025. But the double XP benefit can be claimed instantly. PS5 players should hurry if they haven't yet logged in to Battlefield 6 yet, because these offers will be available until the second weekend of the open beta phase, which is concluding on August 17, 2025, at 4 AM ET.
