Cynthia Erivo and The Vivienne among ‘LGBT+ changemakers' in 2025 Pride List
The Independent's Pride List for 2025 also includes retired Olympic diver Tom Daley, actor Bella Ramsey, artist David Hockney, comedian Joe Lycett and author Juno Dawson.
Erivo, 38, who won a Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (Glaad) Award earlier in the year, was placed at number four on the top 10 list while The Vivienne, the drag alter-ego of the late James Lee Williams, is seventh.
The Vivienne, who won the first series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK and spoke publicly about prejudices faced by LGBT+ people and by the drag community, died in January at the age of 32 and is a posthumous inclusion on the list.
Topping the 2025 Pride List is Victoria McCloud, a lawyer, former judge and transgender woman who announced she would take the Government to the European Court of Human Rights over the Supreme Court's ruling on the definition of a woman.
Dr McCloud said: 'I'm delighted and honoured that The Independent has included me in its Pride List this year.
'In 2025, more than ever before, amidst increasing oppression and segregation at home, with court and state against us, people from the trans community yearn to be bathed in rainbow light.
'These are uniquely dark times but we will challenge those who wish to marginalise us, be they Government or activists with money and the odd mega-yacht to spare.
'We have been here for centuries; we will be here for centuries to come. The quiet majority walk with us.'
In April the UK's highest court unanimously ruled that the terms woman and sex in the Equality Act 'refer to a biological woman and biological sex'.

In 2023, The Independent relaunched its Rainbow List as the Pride List, to recognise 50 extraordinary 'LGBT+ changemakers'.
The 2024 list included Doctor Who and Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa, commentator and former England footballer Alex Scott, Wicked and Bridgerton actor Jonathan Bailey and screenwriter Russell T Davies.
To mark the publication of its Pride List, The Independent will host an event at Queer Britain on June 11.

Elton John says 'we will not back down' in awards speech addressing AI concerns
Elton John said "we will not back down" in an awards speech where he pleaded with the UK Government to "do the right thing" by strengthening copyright protections when artificial intelligence (AI) models learn from creatives' content. The UK Government has repeatedly rejected changes to the Data (Use and Access) Bill, proposed by the House of Lords, aimed at strengthening protections for the creative sector. Peers have attempted to amend the Bill by adding a commitment to introduce transparency requirements, aiming to ensure copyright holders are able to see when their work has been used and by who. Veteran rock singer Elton, 78, who picked up the Creators' Champion Award at Billboard's Global Power Players Event on Wednesday, is among hundreds of creatives who have raised concerns over AI companies using copyrighted work without permission. In an Instagram post he thanked the US magazine for the award and said: "Supporting the next generation of British artists is one of the major driving forces in my life. "As everyone in that room was aware, the Data Bill is currently looming over our industries and the future livelihood of all artists. It is an existential issue. "Earlier this evening, the Government was defeated for an unprecedented fifth time by the House of Lords who have backed the crucial amendment to the Bill. "I am now calling on the Government to do the right thing and get transparency added to the Bill. "Administration of copyright must be transparent. And it must have an artist's full permission. These two principles are the bedrock of our industry. They must be included in the data Bill as a backstop. "Let's be clear – we want to work with the Government. We are not anti AI. We are not anti big tech. We are not against Labour. We want a solution that brings all parties together in a way that's transparent, fair and allows artists to maintain control of their work. "We will not let the Government forget their promise to support our creative industries. We will not back down and we will not quietly go away. This is just the beginning. "Thank you, Billboard. Barry McGuigan calls for Katie Taylor blockbuster bout before retirement
Barry McGuigan hopes Katie Taylor will stay for one more mega-fight and take on Caroline Dubois after she competes in her trilogy bout against Amanda Serrano. The Olympic gold medal winner turns 39 this summer, and although she has not hinted at retirement, time is certainly ticking on her illustrious career. A win in Madison Square Garden this summer would certainly be a good time to exit stage left but Barry McGuigan hopes Taylor will stick around and face Dubois. Dubois boasts an impressive 11-0-1 record and is the younger sister of World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Dubois. And McGuigan hopes the fight will go ahead and that Dubois has a serious chance of winning. Speaking to Betway, he said: "I think that's a fight we genuinely believe we can win as she is getting better, improving all the time and she's tremendously powerful for a 135lb fighter. We can maybe talk to Katie about doing a catchweight and have all of the titles (on the line) with Katie's belts at 140lbs and Caroline's WBC lightweight title. "That would have to be a discussion that we agree with the various different councils, but it is a fight I believe Caroline would have a tremendous chance of winning. She's getting stronger and more confident, and she's incredibly quick and explosive. She is one the best female fighters when it comes to power and can switch her lights off. We have seen Caroline dropping men in the gym so she can hit really hard. The guys in the gym go f****** hell, she can really hit. "I certainly hope she doesn't retire before she fights Caroline Dubois, but she is 39 years old. She has achieved incredible things for female boxing, Ireland and has been a great ambassador to professional boxing. I hope we can make the fight between Katie and Caroline after she has fought Amanda Serrano. "
