Chiefs remain silent on striker transfer leak

Kaizer Chiefs caused a stir last weekend when an announcement video for striker Etiosa Ighodaro appeared to be leaked on social media.

This is despite the 24 year-old seemingly still being contracted to Mamelodi Sundowns.
Chiefs' Ighodaro issue
Ighodaro spent last season on loan at AmaZulu, and would need to have been released from his contract by his parent club Sundowns, for Amakhosi to snap him up as a free agent.
It is unclear, however, whether Sundowns have done this.
'I can't speak on anything right now until the club (Chiefs) makes announcements,' said Chiefs' marketing and commercial director Jessica Motaung this week, when quizzed about the Ighodaro 'leak'.
Chiefs midfielder Samkelo Zwane, meanwhile, believes Chiefs are ready for the new season after a pre-season camp in the Netherlands.
'My body is tired, the players are tired, the trip to the Netherlands was a good one,' Zwane told Newzroom Africa
'I think all pre-seasons are like that, a place to understand our teammates and coach better.'
Zwane added that the back-to-back games Amakhosi played was probably a deliberate tactic.

'From my understanding it was deliberate, to make sure we are physically ready for the new season.'

Chiefs will play their next pre-season match against Asante Kotoko of Ghana on Saturday in the Toyota Cup at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Chiefs' embarrassment Chiefs finished 9th in the Betway Premiership last season, meaning they failed to qualify for the MTN8 for the second season in a row. Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates: full list of players released
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have been the busiest teams during the transfer window, having made close to 20 new signings combined. For Amakhosi, this coming season is a redemption arc after failing to finish in the top 8 for the second consecutive time. Despite claiming the Nedbank Cup, Nasreddine Nabi is desperate to change the club's fortunes in his second season at the club. So far, Kaizer Chiefs have signed six players which are: Ethan Chislett (Port Vale), Nkanyiso Shinga (FC Alverca), Flavio Silva (Persebaya Surabaya), Thabiso Monyane (Orlando Pirates), Paseka Mako (Orlando Pirates), and Siphesihle Ndlovu (SuperSport United). Nabi sees positives despite Chiefs' fifth loss in six friendlies against Kotoko
Nasreddine Nabi's post-match press conference after Kaizer Chiefs lost yet another preseason game lasted a little over 15 minutes, but it was dominated by one question, which he sought to answer via a translator, then offered his broken English in an attempt at a clearer explanation. Chiefs' 2-3 penalty-shoot-out defeat against Ghana's Asante Kotoko in the annual Toyota Cup at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday was their fifth loss in six friendlies this preseason. To be fair to Nabi, it was largely an unmerited loss, with Amakhosi spurning a chance to win it with five minutes to go when Inácio Miguel sent his penalty wide and then Pule Mmodi's effort being saved when a conversion would have guaranteed victory in the shoot-out. But as his inquisitors reminded him in that presser, Saturday's result was yet another defeat, which doesn't seem to bode well for Chiefs' prospects when they kick off the new season next weekend.
