One dead, 2 hurt after tricycle collides with wing van in Albay
A tricycle collided with a wing van on a highway in Polangui, Albay leaving at least one person dead and two severely injured.
As seen on a dashcam video, the tricycle was traversing the outer lane of the highway when it veered right and hit a car which immediately swerved to avoid a crash.
The minor contact however caused the tricycle driver to lose control of the vehicle and ended up colliding with a wing van coming from the opposite lane.
A passenger of the tricycle was declared dead on arrival at a hospital, while another passenger and the driver were severely injured.
Authorities are still looking for the driver of the car, as reported on GMA's '24 Oras Weekend' on Sunday. —Jon Viktor Cabuenas/RF, GMA Integrated News

NBI nabs 3rd suspect in mother-son slay
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announced Monday the arrest of another suspect in the kidnapping and killing of a mother and her son in Quezon City last year. Atty. Ariel Calub, the agent on the case, said the suspect is a jail officer. 'Kung titignan po natin ang mga kasama po niya puro mga ex-convict from Muntinlupa. Mga bagong laya po ito at siya po ang nagproprovide ng mga tirahan,' Calub said in a briefing. (If we look at the people he's with, they are mostly ex-convicts from Muntinlupa. These are recently released individuals, and he's the one providing them with shelter.) Calub said the arrested individual is one of the people who held up the two victims while they were driving at 2:45 a.m. on June 10 in Quezon City. The son was killed during the incident while the group abducted the mother. After the group demanded a P5 million ransom for the mother's release, the victim's family immediately sought help from the NBI. The NBI previously said that the family's driver conspired with the suspects and tipped them off, leading them to cut off contact with authorities. The mother's remains were later located in the town of Bai in Laguna. Meanwhile, the NBI previously arrested a jail officer and a former person deprived of liberty in July 2024. NBI Director Jaime Santiago said charges have been filed against the suspect and a warrant of arrest was issued by a QC regional trial court. —RF, GMA Integrated News
