PennDOT has 3 more Real ID Days scheduled before enforcement deadline

Yahoo23-04-2025

With federal Real ID enforcement beginning in just over two weeks, PennDOT officials say they're still committed to making it as convenient as possible for Pennsylvanians to obtain a Real ID.
The agency is holding three more Real ID Days. Two before the May 7 deadline, on April 28 and May 5, and one after on May 12.
The April 28 Real ID Days will be held from 8:30 AM – 4:15 PM at 57 locations. Click here for a complete list of centers that will be open.
To get one, you'll need to bring your birth certificate or U.S. passport with you, along with proof of your social security number and two documents showing your address.
While getting a Real ID is optional in Pennsylvania, after May 7, you will need it to board domestic commercial flights and enter a military base and federal buildings if you don't have a passport.

Railroad crossing work to cause weeklong detour in Huntingdon County

HUNTINGDON COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A weeklong detour will be in place for a railroad crossing in Huntingdon County. Norfolk Southern Railroad will be conducting maintenance work on the railroad tracks at the crossing on 4th Street in Huntingdon Borough and Smithfield Township. The work is expected to begin at 6 a.m. Wednesday, June 11 and continue through Wednesday, June 18. According to PennDOT, 4th Street will be closed between Penn Street in Huntingdon Borough and William Penn Highway in Smithfield Township. The detour will use William Penn Highway, Fairgrounds Road, Penn Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Drivers are urged to use extra caution when traveling through a work zone by driving slowly, avoid distractions and watch out for signs and flaggers. PennDOT encourages motorists to 'Know Before They Go' by checking conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting downloading the 511 Android or iPhone app, or by calling 5-1-1. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. Nearly half of Texans don't have passports

About 45% of Texans who are U.S. citizens don't have a valid passport as of 2024, per estimates from the think tank Center for American Progress. Why it matters: A valid passport is one of the few forms of accepted identification for international travel — and it's also required for domestic air travel if you don't have a Real ID. By the numbers: Of the roughly 27 million U.S. citizens living in Texas, 12 million are currently without a valid passport — a gap that could create headaches for domestic travelers and limit mobility abroad.

Sorry, you can't use your Costco membership card to get through TSA

"Can't fly on hotdogs and hope." That's according to the Transportation Security Administration, which recently posted on social media to let Americans know they cannot, in fact, use their Costco membership cards in place of a Real ID. "We love hotdogs & rotisserie chickens as much as the next person but plz stop telling people their Costco card counts as a REAL ID because it absolutely does not," TSA said in an X post on June 4. In a follow-up post on Instagram, the agency said a Costco Gold Star Membership card might get you a 48-pack of toilet paper and other goodies the warehouse retailer is known for, but "it won't get you through a TSA checkpoint." "We get it, you're a bulk-buying boss, the executive of excess, the sultan of samples. But unless your $1.50 hot dog has a passport, you're gonna need a REAL ID or other acceptable form of ID to fly," the post said. The posts from TSA, which is known to have a tongue-in-cheek social media presence, came after Real ID requirements were set to take effect in May. Americans were scrambling ahead of the May 7 deadline to secure a Real ID, which the Department of Homeland Security had previously said would be required to fly domestically from that date. However, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that Americans would still be able to fly without a Real ID for the time being. TSA's website currently says that travelers without a Real ID — or an alternative form of acceptable identification, like a passport — will be notified of their noncompliance and could be subject to additional screening at the airport. list.
