Ryanair X Coldplay, splitting up couples: Airlines seizes embarrassing moment

Al Bawaba18-07-2025
ALBAWABA - Boston, July 18, 2025 — Low-cost airline Ryanair stirred the internet with a savage one-liner after a Coldplay concert 'kiss cam' moment went viral for all the wrong reasons.
In a tweet posted just hours after the now-infamous incident, the airline wrote:
'Ryanair 🤝 Coldplay — splitting up couples.'
The tweet referenced a now-viral moment during Coldplay's July 17th concert at Gillette Stadium, where frontman Chris Martin jokingly outed a couple on the big screen, sparking allegations of an affair.
What started out as a funny moment at a Coldplay concert quickly turned into a huge internet drama when lead singer Chris Martin joked about a couple caught on the venue's Kiss Cam, which led to claims of cheating.
At the band's sold-out "Music of the Spheres" show at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, Martin was making up a song called "The Jumbotron Song" when the cameras pan to a man and woman who are seen hugging. "Oh, look at these two," Martin joked, setting up the moment. Either they're seeing someone else or they're just shy!"
People in the crowd laughed out loud, but the couple's odd response—ducking away from the camera—made people look twice. The two people were quickly identified as Andy Byron, CEO of the tech company Astronomer, and Kristin Cabot, Chief People Officer of the business. People thought that they might be dating beyond work because of how close they seemed to each other and how quickly they tried to avoid attention.
People online connected the man to Megan Kerrigan Byron, a woman thought to be his wife. The woman apparently deleted her social media accounts soon after the video went public, which made things worse.
A video clip that has been shared a lot of times shows Martin looking awkward as he seems to understand what his joke might mean. He spoke to the crowd nervously, "I hope we didn't do anything bad."
Millions of people have watched the video on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), with reactions that range from shock and laughter to pity. Some fans joked that Coldplay made 'two new singles'—a nod to both the band and the possible broken relationships. A joke that went popular asked, "What's worse: finding out your partner is cheating or that they like Coldplay?"
A claimed quote from Byron started going around online, but Astronomer quickly said it wasn't real. Neither Byron nor Cabot have said anything about what happened in public, and their agents have turned down pleas from the media.
Coldplay's world tour, which began in 2022 and will end at London's Wembley Stadium in September 2025, is going on at the same time as the controversy. The band was in the news earlier this summer for bringing back old hits like "Speed of Sound," but this awkward show moment has really caught people's attention.
Fans may want to think twice before getting close to the camera while the tour is going on, especially since Chris Martin will be watching.

White House defends Sydney Sweeney amid eugenics Ad backlash—is this helping or hurting her?

ALBAWABA - You may have seen that Sydney Sweeney and American Eagle are getting a lot of bad press for their new jeans ads. A lot of people have said bad things about the new jeans promotion, from how sexualized Sydney is to the way she speaks. Some people have said that there are racial themes and links to eugenics, which is probably what people have talked about the most. In this case, the campaign's slogan is "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans," and it's made clear that the whole thing is a play on Sydney's "great genes." Some people are upset that Sydney's genes as a blonde, blue-eyed, white woman are praised, and they say that AE is supporting eugenics and "white supremacy." American Eagle Instagram profile One of the clips that received the most backlash centers on Sydney saying, 'Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue.' The social media pages of AE seem to have been hacked to get this video. Especially in the current political climate, being accused of promoting whiteness is not a great look for the brand, nor for Sydney, who has previously had to address 'misinterpretations' about her and her family's political stance after people on her Instagram page were seen wearing MAGA-style hats. It's important to note that Sydney has stayed politically neutral in public even though her family has been talked about. The government has now joined the public discussion about the AE, which is still going on. On July 29, White House communications manager Steven Cheung took to X to share a screenshot of an MSNBC headline suggesting that the AE ad is indicative of an 'unbridled cultural shift toward whiteness.' Cheung said that the response was "cancel culture gone wild" and criticized "dense liberal thinking." Cancel culture run amok. This warped, moronic, and dense liberal thinking is a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in 2024. They're tired of this bullshit. — Steven Cheung (@StevenCheung47) July 29, 2025 'This warped, moronic, and dense liberal thinking is a big reason why Americans voted the way they did in 2024,' he wrote. "This crap is getting old for them." As you might expect, the White House's answer has made people talk even more about Sydney and the contentious campaign. People are very angry about the latest comments online, with many pointing out that it hasn't made things better and that it's not good for Sydney that the Trump administration is supporting her.

George Lucas brings the force to Comic-Con in historic first visit

SAN DIEGO — Comic-Con fans pulled out their lightsabers on Sunday to welcome "Star Wars" creator George Lucas to the prominent pop culture convention for the very first time. Attendees lined up for hours to grab a seat inside the 6,500-person capacity venue in San Diego, California to see the legendary filmmaker behind the "Indiana Jones" franchise speak at the event on its final day. Comic-Con, which draws some 130,000 attendees, has become an important platform for movie studios and their stars to showcase the latest film and television offerings, especially those with a genre fan base. "We've been waiting five decades for this!" said panel moderator Queen Latifah, who oversaw the discussion by Lucas and other filmmakers. Instead of discussing his film works, however, Lucas graced the convention to preview the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art -- opening in Los Angeles in 2026 -- which the director co-founded with his wife, businesswoman Mellody Hobson. "I've been collecting art since I was in college," Lucas, 81, told the crowd, adding that he has amassed tens of thousands of pieces in his collection. "I've been doing this for 50 years now, and then it occurred to me that what am I going to do with it all because I, I refuse to sell it. "I could never do that, it's just, it's not what I think art is -- I think it's more about an emotional connection," the director said. In his description of the museum, Lucas said the institution will feature a blend of works. They include illustrations by Normal Rockwell, Jessie Willcox Smith and N.C. Wyeth; artworks by Frida Kahlo, Jacob Lawrence, Charles White and Robert Colescott; and pieces by cartoonists and artists like Winsor McCay, Frank Frazetta and Jack Kirby. "This is sort of a temple to the people's art," he said in summation. The museum, housed in a sleek, curved building, will also feature items from Lucas's films and other exclusive pieces. For the "Star Wars" mastermind, the museum aims to be a tribute to the importance of narrative art. "When you're born, the baseline is fear. And as you go through life, you're curious about things, but you're especially curious about things you don't understand, and therefore that's a threat to you. "And as a result, you make up stories to make it feel good," he continued. "Science fiction is a myth... but we've made it real because of science fiction books and art." 'A critical moment' Among the other members of the panel were Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro and production designer Doug Chiang, who shaped the aesthetic of the "Star Wars" universe for decades. "What's remarkable about George is that he leads from the heart, and this museum is him," Chiang said. Del Toro, who will release his latest film "Frankenstein" in November, said many of the museum's pieces will celebrate freedom of speech. "We are in a critical moment in which one of the things they like to disappear is the past, you know, and this is memorialising a popular, vociferous, expressive and eloquent moment in our visual past that belongs to all of us," Del Toro said. The fantasy filmmaker also described comics as a medium with "a lot of social conscience" and joked that comic artists "were the first one to punch a Nazi" in their works. "What a panel!" said attendee Jesse Goldwater, who traveled to San Diego from Los Angeles. "They are the embodiment of Comic-Con itself, without them Comic-Con wouldn't exist."

Sydney Sweeney 'Great Jeans' Ad slammed as tone-deaf and racist

Published July 28th, 2025 - 02:54 GMT ALBAWABA - People don't like Sydney Sweeney's new "great jeans" ad campaign because it seems racist. The Euphoria star is in a new ad campaign for American Eagle. The motto is "Sydney Sweeney has great genes." But a lot of people on social media have pointed out that the play on words with "great genes" has racist meanings because it's linked to eugenics and praising whiteness in the past. "That Sydney Sweeney ad didn't make sense to me at first, but then I realized I should watch it with the sound on, and OH MY GOD." "Yeah, that's some fucked-up Aryan eugenics shit," someone wrote on X. American Eagle Instagram profile Someone else said, "Maybe I'm too fucking woke." "But getting a blonde, blue-eyed white woman and basing your campaign on the idea that she has perfect genes seems strange, especially given how things are in America right now." "I don't like the Sydney Sweeney jeans ad; it makes me wonder why we're promoting eugenics when the country is in such bad shape. NO, I don't want your genes." "Fuck you, American Eagle," said a third. "Are Sydney and American Eagle really hoping that people won't see this as a code word for eugenics and white supremacy?" A fourth wrote. I didn't know what everyone was freaking out about with that Sydney Sweeney ad but then I realized I should watch it with the sound on and OH MY GOD. Yeah that's some fucked Aryan eugenics shit — Dr. Mia Brett (@QueenMab87) July 27, 2025 The campaign also wants to bring attention to domestic violence through a line created by Sweeney called "The Sydney Jean." The full price of the line goes to the Crisis Text Line, which helps people with mental health issues. Maybe I'm too fucking getting a blue eyed, blonde, white women and focusing your campaign around her having perfect genetics Feels weird, especially considering the current state of America — David (@davejr307) July 25, 2025 However, some people have said that this part of the campaign is tone deaf, with one writing, "Is this really the ad they came up with to raise money for a domestic violence organization?' ✨Re: Sydney Sweeney'Genes are passed down from parent to offspring, often determining traits like eye color, personality, and even hair color…' So Sydney (& American Eagle) somehow expect audiences to not interpret this visual as a euphemism for eugenics and white supremacy? — My Fairy Godfather (@MFG_iWPJ) July 26, 2025 Another person told MailOnline, "As someone who has used and volunteered for this organization, this is SO disgustingly tone-deaf." Sweeney's next movie will be the drama Christy, in which she plays boxer Christy Martin. The movie is set to come out in September. In other news, the actor said she would like to be in a Barbie sequel with Margot Robbie. © 2000 - 2025 Al Bawaba (
