Here's a look inside Disney Adventure, the company's largest cruise ship ever

Disney's largest cruise ship, Disney Adventure, will sail out of Singapore in December. Disney CEO Bob Iger said it's a chance for Disney's IP to "float" into the Southeast Asia market. The ship will have several attractions, including the "longest roller coaster at sea." Disney's betting big on Asia. CEO Bob Iger said Disney Adventure, the company's largest ship to date, is a real chance to expand into the Southeast Asian market. During Disney's Q3 earnings call, he described Disney Adventure as a floating ambassador for the company's intellectual property. "This will give us an opportunity to basically sell, or float, the Disney brand in all of its glory into a region that we think has huge Disney brand affinity," Iger said during Disney's Q3 earnings call. Disney Cruise Line has become an increasingly integral to the company's experiences division. It earned $347.3 million in profits last year, a notable step up from the $180.5 million earned in 2023. Disney Adventure is the seventh ship in Disney Cruise Line's fleet after Disney Wish set sail in 2022 and Disney Treasure in 2024. It can house an estimated 2,500 crew members and 6,700 passengers. Passengers on Disney Adventure will spend three to four nights immersed in their favorite Pixar, Marvel, and Disney stories. Disney Adventure, which sets sail on December 15, is dedicated to sea days. Here's a look at Disney Adventure. Wayfinder Bay is one of seven themed areas on Disney Adventure. Disney went all in when designing its first cruise ship with a homeport in Asia. Disney Adventure houses seven themed areas: Disney Imagination Garden, Town Square, San Fransokyo Street, Toy Story Place, Disney Discovery Reef, Marvel Landing, and Wayfinder Bay. Wayfinder Bay is an outdoor space inspired by Disney's "Moana" that features a bar and wading pool. The pool area doubles as a performance venue where guests can watch live shows like "Moana: Call of the Sea." Take a splash in Disney Discovery Reef. Disney Discovery Reef, a themed area in the back of the ship, draws from films like "The Little Mermaid" and "Finding Nemo" to explore the company's underwater stories. This area features numerous shopping and food options for guests, including Palo Café, a coffee bar inspired by the coastal town in Pixar's "Luca." Marvel fans can also find Cosmic Kebabs, a restaurant serving pitas and kebabs inspired by Marvel's "Ms. Marvel." The Avengers are on display at Marvel Landing. Disney Adventure is bringing Marvel superheroes to the sea. Marvel Landing is on the ship's upper deck, where three attractions are available to guests: Groot Galaxy Spin, Pym Quantum Racers, and Ironcycle Test Run. Ironcycle Test Run is Disney's first-ever cruise ship roller coaster. It's also the "longest roller coaster at sea" at over 820 feet long, according to the company. Woody and the "Toy Story" gang hang out on the upper deck. Fans of Disney's "Toy Story" franchise will feel right at home on Disney Adventure. Toy Story Place is a water wonderland for families with several options, including Sunnyside Family Pool, the Flying Saucer Splash Zone, and whirlpools. The area also welcomes passengers to zoom down Woody and Jessie's Wild Slides. San Francisco meets Tokyo in an area inspired by "Big Hero 6." Disney Adventure will feature an area that combines the "vibrant energy" of Tokyo with the "laid-back charm of San Francisco" in a nod to "Big Hero 6." Passengers can visit San Fransokyo Street to catch a film at Baymax Cinemas or participate in an immersive training simulator at the Big Hero Arcade. They can also stop by Duffy and Friends Shop and enter the Duffy and Friends Discovery Quest, which asks passengers to use clues to find lost items and potentially win a prize. Disney Adventure has multiple dining options for passengers. The cruise ship has two entertainment restaurants, including Hollywood Spotlight Club, where passengers can dine while interacting with Disney characters like Daisy Duck and Mickey Mouse. Other options include the Enchanted Summer Restaurant, inspired by Disney's Tangled and Frozen films, and Pixar Market Restaurant, which pays homage to the studios' films. Mowgli's Eatery, Stitch's 'Ohana Grill, Bewitching Boba and Brews, and Mike & Sulley's — Flavors of Asia are also places to try. Disney Adventure has venues geared for adults. Although Disney Adventure offers family fun, specific venues were made for the 18+ crowd. Palo Trattoria is an adults-only Italian restaurant between Disney Discovery Reef and Wayfinder Bay. Inspired by the "Peter Pan" villain Captain Hook, Buccaneer Bar is a lounge where adults can unwind and relax. Watch a production or two at the Walt Disney Theatre. The Walt Disney Theatre will put on two productions for passengers on Disney Adventure. "Remember" is a musical starring the robots from Disney-Pixar's "Wall-E" and other characters. "Disney Seas the Adventure" is a musical featuring songs and characters from Disney's catalog. The theatre is in Town Square, which is inspired by Disney's vast collection of princesses and fairy tales. Sweat it out with Baymax in the Disney Imagination Garden. The Disney Imagination Garden, another themed area, features a stage with three deck screens. Among the interactive shows appearing on that stage is the Baymax Super Exercise Expo, a musical exercise show inspired by "Big Hero 6." Passengers can also watch shows like Captain Jack Sparrow & the Siren Queen and Mickey's Color Spin Dance Party. After a long day, get some sleep in one of Disney Adventure's staterooms. Disney said most staterooms include a split-bathroom concept, elevated bed frames, and a menu highlighting essentials for families with small children. "Each stateroom will feature thoughtful amenities, family-friendly conveniences and special Disney touches," the company said in a blog post. Passengers looking for a particularly elegant trip can take advantage of the concierge experience, which offers exclusive perks like priority boarding.

'Fantastic Four' Review: A Gorgeous, Near-Perfect Instant Marvel Classic

Just when you thought this was going to be the summer of DC Studios and Superman, along comes a surprise. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has perhaps felt inessential in recent years (owing to an endless torrent of new Disney+ shows), the biggest movie franchise of all time isn't about to suddenly fade away. Far from it. If anything, The Fantastic Four: First Steps makes the case that Marvel Studios needed these past 17 years just to craft the ideal Marvel superhero movie. Is The Fantastic Four: First Steps the perfect Marvel movie? Perhaps. Can Marvel top this as a standalone adventure anytime soon? Unlikely. No spoilers ahead. Every decent superhero movie ever made has benefited from a certain degree of hype. But what's interesting about First Steps is the way that the trailers and promotion for the film have oddly undersold its beauty. While the trailers for Superman more or less tell you everything you need to know about the film, the trailers for First Steps hide this film's grandeur. This isn't a movie you should wait to see on streaming. You need to see it in a big theater, with a bunch of people. And, if you've got kids, and they're, say, over the age of 8, take them. Alternatively, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is a great date night film. Or a middle-of-the-day, see-it-by-yourself movie. In all cases, it's a crowd pleaser, with charm and bravado on par with J.J. Abrams' first Star Trek reboot in 2009, or a live-action Disney adventure movie from the 1980s that you invented in your in a version of Earth that is very clearly not the regular MCU timeline, we meet the titular Fantastic Four in a retrofuturistic version of the 1960s. While a world with flying cars and golden records might seem jarring or unrealistic on paper, part of the brilliance of First Steps is how confidently and convincingly it presents this world and its heroes. Director Matt Shakman, who gave us WandaVision, is at the height of his powers here, crafting a vintage look that will make certain kinds of comic book and sci-fi fans scream with delight. We've seen glimpses of the Fantastic Four's retro rocketship, the Excelsior, in trailers, but seeing it in action, along with their slick flying car, is worth the ticket price alone. The feeling of the film is like Sean Connery-era James Bond fused with The Incredibles. You'll want to live in this world. Bringing home this aesthetic is Michael Giacchino's courageous score, a kind of music that will be in your head long after you leave the theater. From the modern Star Trek film to The Incredibles, and all the newer Spider-Mans, Giacchino has given us a lot of great movie music. But with The Fantastic Four, he truly cements himself as the heir to the legacy of John Williams. No Marvel movie before has had a score this good or this classic. Refreshingly, the Fantastic Four — Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) — are the only super-powered good guys on their Earth, giving the movie something of a throwback vibe. The story of the team is told in a clever in-universe TV show recap; the Four were astronauts who hit some cosmic mumbo jumbo and were given superpowers. Essentially, the movie doesn't really have time for side-quests or side plots; the main story, in which a massive being called Galactus wants to devour Earth, takes center stage pretty quickly. Reed and Sue's new baby, Franklin, gets wrapped up in this plot, too, giving Pedro Pascal yet another child to protect following his parental turns in The Mandalorian and The Last of parents in the audience, this movie sees you and is perhaps made for you. The concept of how a child changes the family unit of the Fantastic Four is basically the story of the entire movie, and every dad on the planet will relate to, and at times, see themselves in Pascal's Reed Richards. (Cool uncles will see themselves in Johnny and Ben.) Zoomers on the internet like to joke that Pascal is "daddy," but here, you truly believe he is a down-to-earth father. This is an impressive feat considering he's wearing blue spandex half the time, and turning his arms into play-dough constantly. The entire cast is excellent, and each gives a naturalistic performance that never winks at the camera. It's all very funny at times, but never snarky or cynical. As Ben Grimm/The Thing, Moss-Bachrach creates a tenderness to what could have been a one-note character, especially when he has scenes with Natasha Lyonne's character, a school teacher who is crushing on him. Quinn is excellent as the (literal) hot-headed Human Torch, but plays it all with just a touch of humility that makes you want him back on screen as soon as he's off. Even Julia Garner's Silver Surfer soars, and will make you believe a naked-ish space being can said, the star of the film is probably Vanessa Kirby's excellent take on Sue Storm, who gives this version of the Invisible Girl depth, power, and relatability. She's a great role model for kids everywhere, but also a pretty damn good inspiration to grown-up parents, too. If you don't buy some of Sue's more heroic acts in the climax of the film, you're probably either super cynical or not experienced enough with being a caregiver to children to understand the significance of what happens. Sue Storm and the Fantastic Four as a whole represent a beautiful ideal for how people can make a better world for future generations. It's all a fantasy, of course. But it's a galvanizing and warm fantasy. This is the kind of movie that makes you feel lighter and happier when you leave the theater. As is Marvel tradition, there are some hints at the end about how the Fantastic Four will show up in the next batch of big-screen MCU adventures. But for now, you won't think too much about the next steps. Instead, you'll almost certainly just want to revisit these First Steps again and again. Movie Review: FREAKIER FRIDAY

Nostalgia. Am I right? This summer just brought us the legacy sequel of The Naked Gun . With that, those of us who grew up in the 1990s and 2000s are already basking in our nostalgic 'feels.' Many feelings will only grow deeper as Freakier Friday hits theaters this week. The sequel features not only the original cast but Lindsay Lohan's hotly anticipated return to Disney. Does the legacy sequel tap into the joy of the original? Or is Freakier Friday just a mediocre copy of something many once saw as special? Well, read on. Freakier Friday Freakier Friday jumps back into Tess and Anna Coleman's story (Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan). Luckily, they've long ago recovered from their previous body switching and have moved on to live happy lives. Tess is married and thriving. She's also over-the-moon helping Anna succeed as a single mother. However, when Anna falls in love with a handsome single father (Manny Jacinto), the family blending process proves tricky. Suddenly, Anna and Tess find themselves switched with Anna's struggling daughter (Julia Butters) and step-daughter (Sophie Hammons). Will they be able to find the peace they all desperately need? Mark Harmon, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Chad Michael Murray and Vanessa Bayer co-star in the movie. Millennials, be sure to keep an eye out for a cameo from Lohan's The Parent Trap co-star Elaine Hendrix. Nisha Ganatra directs Freakier Friday from a script by Jordan Weiss. Freakier Friday As mentioned, 2025 is apparently Tinseltown's year for nostalgia. However, I'm delighted to report it continues feeling like well-crafted nostalgia. Freakier Friday follows right on the heels of The Naked Gun , with both films reminding us of one thing. Legacy sequels don't have to be soulless cash-grabs. Good job, Hollywood. RELATED: Together Spoiler Review A Girl's Film It should come as no surprise that Freakier Friday finds the sweet and sappy Disney 'family' vibe we're all so familiar with. Yes, this critic may have gotten a trifle misty. There's a sugary emotionality here that flows beautifully, especially as the film enters its third act. It was that delightful kind of saccharine where I immediately regretted not bringing my mother. This is a girl's film. Butters and Hammons, meanwhile, easily step into their roles. Both young actors meet the challenge of joining this complicated legacy sequel with not only an established cast, but a legendary cast. In truth, both performers actually steal scenes playing their older, switched selves. Butters almost channels Lindsay Lohan in a number of instances and gives one of my favorite portrayals of the feature. Body-switching films can't be easy on an actor, but I, for one, love them when they're able to nail the performances. Freakier Friday At the same time, though, I myself am happiest when the film settles down into an easier, gentler pace. This is when Freakier Friday isn't afraid to let itself shine. When Lohan and Curtis are in the driver's seat, the film is a lot louder. It's brash and almost screechy in a way that didn't work for me. While the actresses were certainly having fun together during these scenes, the performances take a back seat to the film's style. There's fun music, fancy costumes and lots of bright colors. RELATED: The Fantastic Four: First Steps Spoiler Review Finding Its Footing At many points, though, the first half of the film relies a little too much on the kid's perspective, and it seems to think kids are obnoxious, dramatic and over-the-top. There's a reliance on 'young people' jokes. We often hear how old and broken Jamie Lee Curtis is. Apparently, Hollywood doesn't understand old and decrepit. Truthfully, the script injects a voice into 'switched' Anna and Tess that feels forced. Heck, Harper and Lily never quite reach the same level of painfully awkward wackiness that we see once the switch happens. I found myself having far more fun with Hammons and Butters until the narrative finally finds its footing towards the end of the second act. However, I know why you all are really here, though. Nostalgia, right? You're a Millennial, or perhaps a Disney-watching Gen-Z who grew up with the 2003 Freaky Friday . Well, I admittedly watched the previous film for the first time this week. I know, I know. I'll turn in my film nerd card. Freakier Friday does a great job sprinkling in just enough nostalgia to appeal to fans of the previous film without demanding a rewatch of it. Lohan and Curtis are tasked with a lot of the needed exposition dumps. Luckily, though, it never feels forced. Meanwhile, the film makes great use of Chad Michael Murray. The 'noughties' teen idol returns as Jake with a relaxed and easy portrayal. He has tremendous fun, almost winking at the camera in some critical moments that are sure to delight fans of the first film. Many will enjoy his loaded (and oddly complicated) relationship with Jamie Lee Curtis' Tess. Weiss's script is having a blast exploring this quirky twosome. When factoring all of this in with the film's heartfelt final act, Freakier Friday cements itself as a must-see for fans of the first film. Freakier Friday understands its nostalgia, and it loves it. RELATED: Movie Review: Osiris Candy-Colored Nostalgia Kids, don't judge a movie by its poster. When all is said and done, Freakier Friday has no right being as utterly adorable as it is. This is a legacy sequel coming 22 years after the original, yet it never really feels tired or uninspired. Freakier Friday is a well-crafted film that isn't afraid to revel in some nostalgia while continuing to explore this familiar world. This is a sweet film with a tremendous amount of heart. It's perfect for not just the family, but even the girlfriends. Bask in the candy-colored nostalgia and have fun with it. Freakier Friday opens August 8, 2025, in theaters around the country.
