‘I only sell Coke': Morgantown man charged after troopers find drugs, stolen gun in car
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — A Morgantown man is facing charges after West Virginia State Troopers say they found a loaded stolen gun and multiple drugs, including fentanyl, while searching a vehicle.
According to a criminal complaint, on Jan. 24, troopers were conducting a patrol on Interstate 68 in Monongalia County when they noticed a Silver Chevrolet Equinox driving at around 40 mph in a posted 70 mph zone and crossing over the fog line on the right side of the road 'multiple times.'
Troopers then turned on their emergency lights and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle near mile marker 10. When troopers approached the vehicle, they said they smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the inside of the vehicle and the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
Man who led officers on high-speed I-79 chase said he used meth that day: Police
Both the driver and the passenger said that they didn't have a driver's license or identification on them, but troopers were able to identify them both, including the passenger, Daisean Washington, 18, of Morgantown, the complaint said. Troopers then detained both of them and began a probable cause search of the vehicle.
During the search, troopers said they found a 'raw, measurable, leafy, green substance' as well as a loaded Glock 17 handgun with an extended magazine holding around 30 bullets. Troopers then ran a check on the serial number of the gun and found that it was stolen out of York, Pennsylvania.
Washington was then placed under arrest and a search of his person was conducted which yielded a plastic bag containing 'a fine blue powder substance, a plastic bag containing a white powder substance, and an assortment of colored pills in another plastic bag' as well as cash, the complaint said.
Troopers said they then conducted a Mirandized interview with Washington, who admitted to selling controlled substances for profit and told troopers 'I only sell Coke.' Washington also admitted that the blue powder was mixed with fentanyl, the complaint said.
Washington has been charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and is being held in the North Central Regional Jail on a $25,000 bond.

In Trump's Washington, ‘You Don't Leave Home Without Your Lawyer'
For the roughly 80,000 lawyers in Washington and its environs, this is the worst of times and the best of times. Worst because President Trump's threats have prompted some of the nation's biggest firms to capitulate and pledge a collective $1 billion in free legal work for the White House. But it is best, at least in the volume of work, for the firms handling some of the astounding number of lawsuits — more than 400, according to a New York Times tracker — that have been filed against Trump's administration since the start of his second term. Some of those cases are in other states, but most are being fought in the nation's capital. 'This is a good time to be a lawyer in Washington,' said Gregory B. Craig, who was a White House counsel to former President Barack Obama. 'Good lawyers, like other humans, want to be wanted. And these days in Trump's world, whether you're an immigration lawyer or a university president or the head of an independent agency, you don't leave home without your lawyer.' Craig, who worked for more than four decades for two big-name firms, Williams & Connolly and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, retired in 2019 after his acquittal on a charge of lying to the Justice Department. He came out of retirement last week to work in the Washington office of Foley Hoag, a firm based in Boston. Donald B. Verrilli Jr., a partner at Munger, Tolles & Olson who was solicitor general under Obama, agreed that this was an extraordinary moment to be a Washington lawyer, but he sounded less chipper about it. Verrilli was the author of a brief supporting Perkins Coie, the first law firm targeted by Trump. Ultimately, 500 firms, mostly boutique and medium-sized, signed the brief, but only eight of them were among the nation's top 100 firms. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.
