If K Chandrasekhar Rao willing, I'll visit him to discuss Krishna water, says Telangana CM Revanth Reddy

HYDERABAD: Amidst the war of words between Congress and BRS over water rights, chief minister A
on Wednesday expressed his willingness to go to the Erravelli farmhouse of former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao (
) to discuss the issue of projects and sharing of Krishna water with Andhra Pradesh.

The CM said the govt was always ready to hold a separate assembly session for discussion if KCR was open to attending it.
Addressing ministers, MPs and MLAs at Praja Bhavan following a detailed presentation on Krishna water sharing, he said: "We are ready whenever you (KCR) notify the Speaker. Let's review the decisions made during your tenure and ours. I assure you that there will be no confusion and that everyone's dignity will be upheld.
If your health does not allow you to attend, please inform us of a suitable date.
I will arrange for a team of ministers to conduct a mock assembly at your Erravelli farmhouse. If necessary, I am also willing to participate with public representatives at the Erravelli farmhouse."
"But I can come only to the farmhouse or assembly, not to clubs and pubs," the CM said.
The CM said that when it came to Telangana's water share, KCR had betrayed the people of state more than leaders from Andhra under United AP.
"If a single whip is warranted for Andhra leaders during united AP, then KCR deserves a hundred whips for his actions," he said.
The CM also asked KCR why he did not exert pressure for Hyderabad's water share.
"When the water share was being determined, the argument should have been that Hyderabad is a common quota for both AP and Telangana as 20% of AP population resides here. If that had been arranged, Hyderabad would not be facing difficulties in securing Krishna water," he said.

Highlighting that BRS govt failed to construct projects at Jurala, which allowed AP to extract more water, the CM said, "If water had been redirected from Jurala to Palamuru Rangareddy, AP would not have had that opportunity. If Krishna water had been captured immediately upon entering Telangana, there would have been no chance to divert it to Rayalaseema.
The diversion of water rendered the power project ineffective, resulting in losses for Telangana in terms of electricity. We missed the chance to obtain power at a lower cost."
The CM said that during the Congress administration in United AP water was supplied to 54 lakh acres and the cost per acre was Rs93,000.

MLC demands withdrawal of 5% GST on handloom and handicraft products

HYDERABAD Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC L. Ramana has demanded that the Centre withdraw the 5% GST on handlooms and handicrafts to help weavers and artisans, who have been bearing the brunt of the tax since 2017. In a letter addressed to Union Finance Minister and GST Council Chairperson Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday, Mr. Ramana stated that the prices of handloom products have gone up due to the 5% GST on yarn, resulting in weavers losing customers. He pointed out that cotton is taxed at 5%, while yarn attracts 12%, and synthetic fibres and chemicals are taxed at 18%. Due to increased production costs, handloom weavers are unable to compete with powerloom weavers and mills. He noted that the GST filing process is complicated and financially burdensome for traditional weavers. In another letter addressed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the MLC demanded that the State government bear the GST burden, recalling Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's poll promise to do so. He observed that weavers who are losing money due to GST are being forced to abandon their traditional profession and migrate to other places for livelihood.

'Bright MPs, insecure leadership': PM Modi's dig at Rahul Gandhi as Monsoon session ends in deadlock

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced regret over Parliament's repeated disruptions as the Monsoon session ended on Thursday with low productivity. PM Modi reportedly took a veiled swipe at the Congress leadership, accusing it of sidelining its own younger MPs out of "insecurity." According to PTI sources, PM Modi made the comments during the customary tea meeting in Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla's office, a tradition marking the end of every session. This time, however, opposition leaders stayed away, underlining the deadlock that dominated this session's proceedings. Though PM Modi did not name Rahul Gandhi, his remarks were widely seen as directed at the Congress leader spearheading protests against the Election Commission's voter list revision in Bihar. The bright and young MPs of the Congress do not get to participate in discussions due to the "insecurity" of its leadership, PM Modi reportedly said, according to PTI sources. PM Modi also expressed disappointment that key legislation, including the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, had been cleared without debate amid the uproar. He nevertheless praised the gaming ban law for its "far-reaching impact," noting the social harm caused by real-money online games. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo He lamented that Parliament missed the chance to discuss several important bills, saying disruptions robbed the House of meaningful debate. Boycott, barbs, and blame With opposition benches empty at the Speaker's tea, BJP leaders remarked on Congress' absence, suggesting the party had grown difficult to engage with. Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju said opposition MPs might have been "too embarrassed" by their behaviour during the session to attend. Rijiju also alleged that Congress negotiators often reached understandings with the government in pre-session talks but failed to follow through, hinting at "pressure from the top." Throughout the session, the INDIA bloc staged noisy protests inside and outside Parliament, accusing the BJP of "vote theft" through the Bihar electoral roll revision. The government, however, pressed ahead, passing multiple bills despite the din. Monsoon session, which concluded on Thursday, saw frequent disruptions that overshadowed legislative business, with the House losing over 84 hours to forced adjournments, the highest in the 18th Lok Sabha. The month-long session that started on July 21 had 21 sittings with 37 hours and 7 minutes of effective business, according to the Lok Sabha secretariat. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that all parties had decided at the beginning of the session that discussions would be held for 120 hours in this session. "The Business Advisory Committee also agreed to this. But due to continuous deadlock and planned disruptions, we could barely work for 37 hours in this session," he underlined.

'Money Belongs To Kannadigas': BJP On Karnataka's Rs 10-Crore Aid To Wayanad Landslide Victims

Last Updated: The Karnataka government is providing the Rs 10 crore grant to the Wayanad landslide victims through the State Disaster Management Fund The BJP and Congress have locked horns over the Karnataka government's Rs 10-crore grant for the rehabilitation of 100 families affected by the Wayanad landslide in 2024. Wayanad, where Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is the MP, witnessed a series of devastating landslides caused by heavy rains in some villages at Meppadi. More than 300 were killed in one of the state's deadliest disasters. The BJP, however, accused the Congress government in Karnataka for squandering the state's disaster fund saying the money belongs to Kannadigas and not the Gandhi family's fortunes. Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra directly addressed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on social media and alleged that he has 'diverted" Kannadiga taxpayers' money to Wayanad simply because it is Priyanka Gandhi's constituency. He said this act is not borne from compassion, but servitude for the Gandhis. He accused Siddaramaiah of making the excuse of fund crunch when it came to providing relief for farmers reeling from crop loss or grant money for basic infrastructure. He added: 'When our farmers reel under crop loss, when MLAs don't even get basic grants to lay foundation stones, when schools & colleges lack infrastructure – you claim there is no money. But to please your high command, you generously gift crores outside Karnataka…" Other BJP leaders also attacked the Congress, saying the ruling party was driving Karnataka towards bankruptcy. 'We were talking about the development in the Assembly yesterday. The ruling party MLAs and the opposition share the view that no development is taking place in the state. You can't see any capital expenditure… For the past three years, there has been no development. In my constituency, there is a lot of work to be completed…" said BJP MLA Dr Bharath Shetty Y. #WATCH | Bengaluru, Karnataka: On the reports Karnataka govt providing Rs 10 crore for Wayanad flood rehabilitation, BJP MLA Dr. Bharath Shetty Y. says, "We were talking about the development in the Assembly yesterday. The ruling party MLAs and the opposition share the view that… — ANI (@ANI) August 21, 2025 He added: 'However, they are spending Rs. 10 crore in the Wayanad district, where Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is the MP… Additionally, they hold a cabinet meeting in the Nandi Hills, incurring an expenditure of Rs. 4 crore… They are driving Karnataka towards bankruptcy." The state government is providing the grant to the landslide victims through the State Disaster Management Fund (SDRF) and has made the allocation in its supplementary estimates for the 2024-2025 fiscal. Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka assembly R Ashoka made a sarcastic remark against the Chief Minister for being concerned about Wayanad. 'Congratulations to the Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri @siddaramaiah, for allocating a special grant of 10 crore rupees to the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency represented by Priyanka Gandhi," Ashoka said in a post on 'X'. He said if Karnataka also had a 'compassionate and large-hearted Chief Minister like Kerala's Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah", all constituencies would have received abundant funding. The ruling Congress defended its move to provide humanitarian aid and said there is nothing wrong in doing charity. Reacting to the state government's decision, health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said there was nothing wrong in doing charity which is being done on humanitarian grounds. 'Karnataka gives thousands and thousands of crores of rupees to the Centre but what do we get in return? That's the bigger question. Not these small-small things. These were all done out of humanitarian considerations," Rao said. He said the people of Karnataka should always feel pride in themselves for being good to neighbours. He alleged that these were all diversionary issues of the BJP, which was trying to create a divide between Karnataka and Kerala. 'We are all there for each other. When we do something out of humanitarian considerations, then that should not be looked at in a suspicious or negative manner," he said. Rao further said the Karnataka government has done so many things in many other states, such as Gujarat and Odisha. 'So many times, so many crises happen, and we contribute and support. This is a very narrow way of looking at things. I don't think even people will appreciate it," he added.
