Liverpool in talks with Crystal Palace over move for Marc Guehi
Liverpool have also seen a £110million bid rejected in recent weeks for unsettled Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, but defensive reinforcements appear to be the current priority.
PA understands the Anfield outfit are in discussions with Palace over a deal for England international Guehi.
The 25-year-old captained the Eagles to victory against Liverpool in Sunday's Community Shield at Wembley and is out of contract next summer.
Guehi starred in England's run to the Euro 2024 final and will want regular game time ahead of next summer's World Cup.
Liverpool are hopeful that the former Chelsea defender wants to join them but sources have denied reports that personal terms have been agreed.

PA understands Liverpool are also interested in 18-year-old defender Leoni from Parma and are in talks with the Serie A side.
The Italy Under-19 international spent time with Padova and Sampdoria before moving to Emilia-Romagna last year.

Negotiations have now been complicated by Palace's interest in Elliott, who is hoping to leave Liverpool in pursuit of regular minutes. Elliott played 53 times for Slot's side last season as they won the title, but was generally used off the substitutes' bench, starting just twice in the Premier League. He made it clear early in the summer transfer window that he would explore his options after growing frustrated with his situation. The Sun reports that Palace are keen on the 22-year-old as they consider replacements for Eberechi Eze. The club's star playmaker is being eyed by Tottenham and Arsenal and Palace know they may be forced to sell after being denied entry to the Europa League. Spurs are ready to launch a bid for Eze and believe they can sign him ahead of Arsenal, who need to sell players before they can bid. The situation has created a chain of connected transfers. Liverpool value Elliott at £40m because the midfielder has two years left on his contract.
