Disney World files permit to change legendary attraction that has stood in the Orlando theme park for 27 years
A major change is coming to one of Disney World's most iconic landmarks. Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, has officially filed a new construction permit for the Tree of Life, the massive centerpiece of Animal Kingdom that has towered over the park since it opened in 1998. The permit was filed on Wednesday, and it is unclear if it is related to the Zootopia: Better Zoogether! show that Disney plans to open at the theater located inside the tree, per Inside the Magic. The towering 145-foot artificial tree, which stands on Discovery Island in Animal Kingdom, isn't just a photo op; it also houses the Tree of Life Theater, which was home to the now-retired It's Tough to Be a Bug! show. The 3D experience, which had been enjoyed by park goers for 27 years before it closed in March, allowed guests to shrink to the size of an insect and learn about human-insect coexistence. Walt Disney Imagineering previously announced that a Zootopia show would be replacing the beloved attraction. The new 3D show will feature a song by the original voice of police officer rabbit, Judy Hopps, Ginnifer Goodwin, per the outlet. There are also rumors that an advanced Officer Clawhauser audio-animatronic will be featured in the new space, like the one in the Zootopia: Hot Pursuit ride at Shanghai Disneyland. After It's Tough To Be A Bug! closed in March, Disney put up a construction wall around the Tree of Life. The new field permits do not have any mention of Zootopia. Walt Disney World Resort has not yet announced the grand opening date for the new Tree of Life, and Disney has yet to comment on the permit. The Daily Mail has reached out to Walt Disney World for comment. Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom is also undergoing a major transformation. This week, guests witnessed the visible draining of Rivers of America - marking the beginning of a permanent change to a section of the park that has been largely untouched for decades. What was once a pretty quiet corner of Liberty Square and Frontierland is now becoming a construction zone - and some fans are not happy about it. The Rivers of America, along with the Liberty Square Riverboat ride and Tom Sawyer Island, are being retired to make room for a new Cars-themed land. This immersive area will introduce two new attractions: a high-speed off-road rally ride designed and a family-friendly indoor adventure set in a rustic lodge. The company previously revealed that the new area will be called Piston Peak National Park and described it as an 'awe-inspiring wilderness filled with towering trees, snowcapped mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, roaring rivers, and impressive geysers.' But the exciting addition also means the loss of some of Magic Kingdom's most iconic and tranquil experiences. The Liberty Belle Riverboat was one of the park's original opening-day attractions, and Tom Sawyer Island offered families a quiet escape from the crowds and screen-based attractions.

Orlando Bloom 'shows true colours as he 'humiliates ex Katy Perry over new lover'
Katy Perry is thought to be upset and disappointed at ex-fiancé Orlando Bloom's mocking reaction to an online take on her 'date' with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Katy Perry is said to be feeling 'let down and humiliated' after her ex Orlando Bloom mocked her rumoured new romance with former Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, according to OK!. The singer, 40, was first linked to the politician after they were spotted having dinner together in late July at Le Violon restaurant in Montreal, where they reportedly tucked into lobster and drank cocktails. Just two days later, Justin, 53, was snapped at Katy's concert in the city, where he was seen dancing and singing along to her hit Firework. The picture showed the pair sitting at a candle-lit dinner table, with a faux caption alongside from an 'insider' claiming, 'Angela kept Orlando laughing all night – he couldn't keep his eyes off her!' In response, Orlando posted a string of clapping emojis in the comments section below, which is said to have upset Katy. A source claimed to new, 'Katy feels very let down and humiliated by Orlando, but she's also realising that he wasn't the right person for her. He's showing his true colours and it's really very hurtful and spiteful to her, especially as it probably means the end of any possible friendship with him in future. They added, 'She hoped they'd both be mature after the break-up so she's feeling really disappointed.' The pair confirmed the end of their on-off nine-year relationship in June, releasing a joint statement that insisted their priority would be co-parenting their four-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom. The statement read, 'Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry 's relationship, representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting.' It continued, 'They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is – and always will be – raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect.' Katy and Orlando first began dating in 2016 after bonding over burgers at a Golden Globes afterparty. They got engaged in 2019 and welcomed daughter Daisy in August 2020. Katy said of the British actor last September, 'I have intense love with Orlando. It's a beautiful love.' Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Katy told how counselling had helped them through previous rough patches. 'We do a lot of couples therapy and we want to evolve,' she said. 'That's, I think, why we're in our relationship – to become better humans so that we can raise this beautiful human being.' Rumours their relationship was in crisis had been circling for months, with their troubles said to be compounded by Katy's much-publicised Blue Origin space flight in April. Although Pirates Of The Caribbean star Orlando turned out with Daisy to support Katy at the Texas lift-off, he reportedly did not approve of her trip into space. The 11-minute voyage taken by an all-women crew of six sparked an international backlash, with critics calling out its environmental impact. Things were said to have reached breaking point when Katy began The Lifetimes Tour in Mexico City nine days later. While on stage, she was seen crying as she sang her 2010 song Pearl with its lyrics, 'I let him rule my world.' In June, Orlando attended the star-studded Venice wedding of Amazon boss Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez alone. He also shared videos of himself solo as he sang along to Oasis at one of their recent Manchester shows. It's not the first time Katy and Orlando have gone their separate ways, and they split for almost a year in April 2017. At the time, Orlando said, 'We're friends, it's good. We're all grown up.' They got back together in early 2018, when they were seen holidaying in Prague. However, in 2023 there were more signs of strain in their relationship. 'Her pool is not a pool that I necessarily understand, and I think my pool is not a pool that she necessarily understands,' Orlando said in an interview. 'Sometimes things are really, really, really, challenging. I won't lie.' Despite speculation from fans following Katy's recent dinner date with Justin, the pair have not commented on the nature of their relationship. Justin and his ex-wife Sophie Grégoire, who have three children together, announced the end of their 18-year marriage in August 2023. In an Instagram post, Justin wrote, 'Sophie and I would like to share the fact that after many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to separate.' He also stressed they share a 'deep love and respect for each other'.

Fringe 2025 – 199 Jokes Before Lunchtime: High Whisk ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
'I've just bought, literally, the loudest pigeon: massive coup. I went to the bar before the show. They had no sparkling water. Stiiill… I've got jokes for adults about the 1980s and jokes for kids about chocolate. A joke about insects: tick. A controversial joke about Winnie the Pooh. Tigger warning.' It's barely a minute into Danny Matinee's 45-minute show and the pun-rich jokes are flowing thick and fast. The near sellout crowd in the Haldane Theatre are chuckling away and there's still another 195 to cram in. Matinee, 47, wearing a black-and-white paisley shirt, dark-coloured jeans and orange trainers, has lovingly constructed a finely-crafted show that even has him struggling not to snigger at times. From dating failures – 'I went out once with a Scottish girl, but it didn't work out, alas' – he segues into visual gags, pausing amid concern as he says to the audience: 'Just trying to work out what the next one is. Bear with me.' Cue a pic of a bear from a handful he's holding. A big yellow bag, clownishly marked 'Props', is deployed for a slightly more muscular section, which starts with him painstakingly blowing up a 3ft-long black plastic barbell as the audience, at his direction, is left to its own devices. 'Sorry about the wait,' he quips, his face creasing up into a pained smile, before flinging it behind him. There's some adept audience involvement, with members mouthing and finger-clicking appropriately simulated rhythmic sounds to a joke about a rap, with a picture of, you guessed it, a wrap; and variously providing the punchlines from a set-up and then the set-up from a punchline. 'You're hitting all your KPIs (key punchline indicators),' Matinee tells them approvingly. His career path, shopping and travel also get a look-in as the tightly-packed set moves on apace, with Matinee looking into the audience to gauge and encourage engagement. The slick wordplay is matched by near-faultless timing and a good narrative flow, while the brain-teasing nature of the humour not only requires the audience members to be on their toes but effectively rewards them, intellectually and comedically, for doing so. Matinee, aka Daniel Crewe, a publishing director originally from Colchester in Essex and now living in Clerkenwell in central London, can't resist a good gag, though, even if it's hard to know where to put it. 'I'm currently researching a book about an Argentine revolutionary who died in Bolivia. It's called 'Fifty grades of Che'.' At the end, fitting in with the show title, there's a special award for little blonde plaited-haired Izzy, from Nottingham, who'd helped Matinee set up a black foldable music stand for one of the 199 jokes: a small multi-coloured whisk. 199 Jokes Before Lunchtime: High Whisk theSpace @ Surgeons' Hall {Aug 8-9, 12-16) Like this: Like Related
