Arrest order for lorry firm owner in fatal FRU crash
Deputy Public Prosecutor Izzuddin Fakri Hamdan filed the arrest warrant application yesterday after the individual failed to appear for Monday's proceedings on two charges, namely under Section 57 and Section 58 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
Magistrate Naidatul Athirah Azman then set July 29 for mention of the arrest warrant, Bernama reported.
It is understood that the Road Transport Department (JPJ) had also sent a summons to the owner of the company to appear in court for yesterday's prosecution proceedings.
On May 30, the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) announced that it had revoked the operating licence of Tashveen Trading, the lorry company that carried the gravel load, effective May 29, 2025.

KKR takes action against staff charged under Penal Code
KUALA LUMPUR: The Works Ministry (KKR) has confirmed that it will take disciplinary action against one of its civil servants recently charged under the Penal Code. The case, involving an administrative assistant accused of outraging a female student's modesty, was brought before a Magistrate's Court here on July 25. In a statement issued today, KKR stated that its Disciplinary Board will convene to ensure the legal process proceeds without interference. The ministry emphasised adherence to the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993. 'KKR will not compromise on any misconduct that could tarnish the image of the public service and the ministry. Internally, we continue to implement awareness, education and intervention programmes as preventive measures,' the ministry said. The accused, who pleaded not guilty, faces charges under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment, a fine, or both. KKR has refrained from further comment, citing respect for the ongoing court proceedings and the rights of all involved parties. – Bernama

Duo jailed for stealing

Kota Kinabalu: Two men were jailed five months by the Magistrate's Court here for stealing from a rented room. Md Shidee Jubri, 35, and Md Yusrain Yusof, 42, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to stealing one unit of electric fan and two multi-purpose cookers belonging to Nur Ain Lo, at 4pm on July 11, in a unit at Padimas Point, Penampang. The duo was jointly charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine, on conviction. The facts of the case, as presented by the prosecution, stated that the complainant discovered the door to her rented room wide open on the said day, with her belongings in disarray. Further checks revealed several of her items and documents belonging to her sister were missing. Acting on intelligence, a team from the Penampang District Police Headquarters arrested both Shidee and Yusrain at 1.20pm on July 17 at a car park in front of ITCC Mall, Penampang, in connection with the theft. Investigations confirmed that the duo had broken into the complainant's room and stolen the said items, which were later recovered from their rented room. The duo were ordered to serve the sentence from the date of their arrest. In a separate case, a woman was fined RM1,300 or jailed one month for having gambling paraphernalia. Nur Shahirah Syamin pleaded guilty to buying two unlicensed 'Wah Hui' lottery tickets at 2.35pm on July 9 at Indah Permai, Jalan Sepanggar. The charge under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, carries a maximum fine of RM5,000, up to six months' jail, or both on conviction. The court found from the facts of the case that a police team conducted surveillance at the location and observed suspected illegal lottery activities before approaching a woman and uncovering paraphernalia related to the unlicensed Wah Hui lottery. The woman, later identified as Nur was arrested, and the gambling materials, including RM40 in cash, were seized from her. The court ordered the seized cash money to be forfeited as government revenue. Motoring influencer, brother jailed for making false police report
Jail time: Tengku Nizaruddin (left) and Tengku Abdul Aziz at the Magistrate's Court in Muar. — Bernama MUAR: A motoring influencer and his younger brother have to serve a one-month jail sentence and pay a RM1,500 fine each after pleading guilty to lodging a false police report about the former's disappearance. Tengku Nizaruddin Tengku Zainudin, 38, widely known online as Ija, and Tengku Abdul Aziz Tengku Zainudin, 30, were charged at the Magistrate's Court here with making a false report and conspiring against civil servants at the Lenga police station at 11.38pm on July 15. Based on the facts of the case, Tengku Abdul Aziz had claimed that the last time he saw his brother was at around 4pm on July 14 and that his car was found in Sungai Tui, Bukit Kepong about an hour prior. Tengku Abdul Aziz reported his brother's alleged disappearance to the police while knowing that the information was untrue. A search and rescue mission was then called by the Fire and Rescue Department, police and Rela on the same day. The authorities later uncovered the ruse at around 12.30am on July 19. Investigations found that both brothers left Johor Baru in separate cars on the morning of July 14, where Tengku Nizaruddin had gone to Pagoh while his brother went to another location. Upon reaching Pagoh, Tengku Nizaruddin drove his car into the river and then asked his brother to pick him up. CCTV footage also revealed that the brothers then travelled to Senawang, Negri Sembilan, in the same car, where Tengku Nizaruddin was seen getting into an e-hailing vehicle bound for the Seremban bus terminal. The facts of the case also stated the Immigration Department logged Tengku Nizaruddin's exit from the country to Thailand at Padang Besar, Perlis. Both brothers were charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum prison sentence of six months or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction. The brothers legal counsel told the court that Tengku Nizaruddin's actions stemmed from his financial problems. When given the opportunity to speak, Tengku Nizaruddin apologised to the public and those affected by his actions. 'I regret my actions and I don't want to go to jail because my wife is six months' pregnant,' Tengku Nizaruddin said. Magistrate Suzana Mokhtar sentenced both brothers to one month in jail and ordered each of them to pay a fine of RM1,500 in default of the prison sentence. Both paid the fine and started their jail sentence yesterday.
