Shoppers who ditch their old TV could get £1000 back from Samsung

Daily Mirror09-05-2025

Samsung's 2025 TVs are now available for pre-order and you could claim up to £1000 when you trade-in your old TV
Samsung has launched its 2025 range of TVs, offering a full selection of OLED and QLED screens, packed full of tech to make sure you get the best watching experience at home. To sweeten the deal, Samsung is offering up to £1000 for shoppers who trade in.
This deal isn't like some trade-in deals we've seen, because the amount you'll save isn't based on the TV you trade-in, it's based on the TV you choose to buy. Those who pick a large TV from the top of the range will get the most back.
Choose something more modest and you'll get less – but there are loads of TVs to choose from. Like the Samsung S95F – the company's sensational flagship OLED TV – and pay £2,899 for the 65-inch model, rather than £3,399.
I mention the Samsung S95F because I've used it and it is a staggeringly-good TV, noteworthy because it has a Glare Free screen and high brightness, so it's ideal for bright rooms or in a room with lots of windows for example.
If you're not sold on Samsung's TVs, then the LG OLED G5 – the 2025 flagship OLED model from LG – is also available with £500 cashback from Currys. The 55-inch Q8F is also included but the deal drops the price from £899 to £749 instead. In Amazon's surprise tech sale there's also its budget-friendly Fire TV 50-inch series, all be it more basic this has a much cheaper price of £339.
The best thing about these deals is that shoppers get a discount on a brand new telly, rather than waiting until discounts appear around Black Friday later in the year.
Samsung announced its 2025 TV range this week, so currently these TVs are in pre-order. The way this deal works, you'll have to buy the TV through Samsung direct or a participating retailer such as John Lewis.
Once bought, shoppers do have to for their TV, wait for approval and get the cash back in their bank within 45 days. All the details can be found on this Samsung website here.
Samsung is using the term 'Vision AI' to describe its new televisions. That covers a range of technologies including AI upscaling to make older content look better, an AI Mode that will optimise the visuals, generative wallpaper so you can create your own background, as well as boosting the sound output.
Samsung's TVs all run on the Tizen OS operating system, giving access to all the streaming apps and backed by a 7-year update policy. Its punchy colours and excellent brightness stand out, with offerings at all sizes and across a full range of different TVs types to suit a full range shoppers.
While Tizen is a speedy system, it doesn't support Google Store apps, which limits users choices when it comes to streaming, unfortunately.
If you're interested in getting a brand new TV and claiming a discount by trading in your old model, then it's definitely worth taking a look. When it comes to voice assistant, it's not considered to be as strong compared to the rival Google Assistand on Android TV.
Samsung is also offering cashback on soundbars too, so if you're interesting boosting your TVs sound, that's also worth looking at as Samsung will pay you up to £350.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic: The ULTIMATE Smartwatch Refined?

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is poised to make waves in the smartwatch market with its bold design and advanced features. By embracing a rugged aesthetic and larger size, Samsung seems to be targeting a specific audience, but these choices may not resonate with all users. The video below provides more insights into the key aspects of the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, analyzing its potential strengths and limitations to provide a clearer picture of what this device could offer. Watch this video on YouTube. Rugged Design and Larger Size Samsung appears to be taking a deliberate step toward a more rugged and durable design with the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. This shift reflects a growing demand for smartwatches that can withstand outdoor activities and challenging environments. The return of the rotating bezel—a feature that has been a hallmark of earlier Galaxy Watch models—adds a layer of practicality, offering tactile navigation in a market where touchscreens dominate. This feature could enhance usability, particularly for users who prefer physical controls over touch-based interactions. However, the larger size and rugged design may not appeal to everyone. Users with smaller wrists or those who prioritize lightweight, sleek wearables might find the watch less comfortable for daily use. The absence of a compact option could limit its appeal as an everyday accessory, especially for individuals who value subtlety and comfort in their wearable devices. While the rugged aesthetic caters to outdoor enthusiasts, it risks alienating a broader audience that prefers versatility and elegance. Advanced Health Sensors and Larger Display The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is expected to feature an array of advanced health sensors, reinforcing Samsung's position as a leader in wearable health technology. These sensors may include enhanced heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen tracking, and potentially new tools designed to cater to fitness enthusiasts and health-conscious users. Such features could make the watch a valuable companion for those looking to monitor their well-being more effectively. The larger display is another notable aspect, offering improved readability and a more immersive experience for viewing health metrics, notifications, and other data. This could be particularly beneficial for users who rely on their smartwatch for detailed health tracking or productivity tasks. However, the increased screen size contributes to the overall bulkiness of the device. For users accustomed to compact smartwatches, this trade-off between functionality and comfort might be a significant drawback. Battery Technology and Charging Capabilities Despite its larger size, the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is rumored to feature a battery capacity that remains modest compared to some of its competitors, such as the Apple Watch Ultra. This could be a point of contention for users seeking a smartwatch capable of lasting multiple days on a single charge. The charging speed is also expected to remain at 10 watts, offering no significant improvement over previous models. While wireless charging continues to provide convenience, the lack of advancements in battery life or charging speed may leave heavy users wanting more. For outdoor enthusiasts or travelers who rely on extended battery life, these limitations could be a deciding factor. The watch's durability and advanced features may appeal to a niche audience, but the absence of meaningful improvements in battery performance could hinder its broader appeal. Users who prioritize long-lasting performance may find themselves looking elsewhere for a device that better meets their needs. Color Options and Customization The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is rumored to launch with a minimalist color palette, offering black and white options. These choices align with the watch's rugged and understated design, appealing to users who prefer a classic aesthetic. However, the limited color range may feel restrictive for those who enjoy more vibrant or unique designs. In contrast, the base Galaxy Watch 8 is expected to offer more variety, with graphite and silver options available in two sizes: 40 mm and 44 mm. This disparity in customization options highlights a potential drawback for the Classic model. While the minimalist approach may suit some users, others may feel that the lack of personalization options limits the watch's appeal. For a device that aims to cater to a wide range of users, offering more diverse color and design choices could have broadened its market reach. Release Timeline and Market Expectations Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic in July, generating significant anticipation among consumers and industry observers alike. The watch's bold design choices and advanced capabilities are likely to spark discussions about its place in the competitive smartwatch market. Whether it can strike the right balance between innovation and user needs will be a key factor in determining its success. As the release date approaches, potential buyers will be weighing the watch's rugged design, advanced health features, and larger display against its lack of compact options and modest battery improvements. These considerations will play a crucial role in shaping consumer perceptions and influencing purchasing decisions. The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic has the potential to carve out a niche for itself, but its ability to meet the diverse needs of its audience will ultimately determine its impact on the wearable technology landscape. Virgin Media Launches Two Free Rakuten TV Channels The DAZN app is also available on Virgin Media boxes, meaning customers need not miss out. Those not with Virgin Media can find the app on smart TVs too. Advertisement RECENT CHANNEL CHANGES TV services are constantly evolving with new channels launching and others closing. The most recent high profile closure was that of ITVBe, which ended after more than 10 years of broadcasting. Most of the big reality series on the channel, like TOWIE, have moved over to ITV2. Fortunately, ITV hasn't left a huge gap on your TV guides as a result of the move. Instead, ITVBe's slot has been replaced by a new channel, ITV Quiz, filled with some of the network's biggest game shows. Image credit: ITV
