Sterlite Technologies stock price in focus today: Shares of Sterlite Technologies, one of the largest manufacturers of Optical Fiber and Optical Fiber Cables, surged 15.2% in intraday trade on Thursday, June 12, hitting a 4-week high of ₹ 88.7 apiece.
The rally followed the company's announcement, via a regulatory filing on June 11, that it had signed an agreement with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), in consortium with Dilip Buildcon, for ₹ 2,631.14 crore telecom project.
The company said the contract was secured through its demerged Global Services business, STL Networks. The project involves the design, supply, construction, installation, upgradation, operation, and maintenance of the middle-mile network for BharatNet in the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh telecom circles.
The order will require three years for construction, and ten years of maintenance contract, the company said, involving ₹ 1620.50 crore in capex, operating expenditure of ₹ 972.30 crore for newly constructed network and ₹ 38.33 crore as opex for existing network.
In Q4 FY25, the company's Optical Networking business reported 26% year-on-year revenue growth and a 110% increase in EBITDA compared to Q4 FY24. This growth was driven by strong momentum in the Enterprise Connectivity and Data Centre businesses, along with a 22% attach rate in the Optical Connectivity (OC) segment.
The company reported revenues of ₹ 1,052 crore and ₹ 3,996 crore for the full FY25 across its business units—Optical Networking and Digital. STL delivered an EBITDA margin of 13.8% and EBITDA of ₹ 146 crore, the highest in the past six quarters.
In its earnings filing, the company stated that the Enterprise and Data Centre businesses saw robust demand in Europe and India, as STL supported key players in these regions to expand their end-customer connectivity solutions.

BSNL to deploy additional 1 lakh towers for 4G network, says Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani: Report

NEW DELHI: State-controlled Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited ( BSNL ) will deploy an additional 1 lakh mobile towers for its commercial 4G services, following the successful installation of 1 lakh towers earlier this month, according to a report by The New Indian Express. Union Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani told the publication in a recent interview that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is set to shortly seek Cabinet approval for BSNL's 4G expansion in the country. 'After successfully installing 100,000 towers with optimal 4G equipment, we will approach the Cabinet and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to approve another 100,000 towers,' Pemmasani said, as per the report. The Centre, as per the report, is also planning to increase BSNL's cash flow to support deployment of more 4G and 5G equipment. The government reportedly plans to monetise BSNL assets. A Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)-led consortium, which comprises the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) and homegrown gear maker Tejas Networks, along with ITI Limited , has deployed 1 lakh towers for BSNL's 4G network. Acknowledging initial hiccups with the homegrown equipment in BSNL's network, the minister said it is expected to operate 'near perfection' by the end of July, or August next year. BSNL has posted a profit after tax (PAT) of ₹280 crore in Q4FY25, up from ₹262 crore in Q3FY25, boosted by its nationwide roll-out of commercial fourth-generation (4G) services and 5G Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) initiatives. The telecom PSU had posted a net loss of ₹849 crore in the fiscal fourth quarter that ended March 31, 2024. For entire FY25, BSNL's loss reduced by 58% to ₹2,247 crore, compared to a loss of ₹5,370 crore in FY24. 'The outlook for the coming year will continue to show strong top-line revenue growth alongside a steady decline in operating costs—both critical to sustained profitability,' the telecom carrier had said in its earnings statement. Its private rivals, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (Vi), already provide commercial fifth-generation or 5G network services to customers.

Stocks to buy under ₹100: Experts recommend four stocks to buy today despite escalating Israel-Iran conflict

Stocks to buy under ₹ 100: Following weak global cues amid the rising Israel-Iran conflict, the Indian stock market witnessed sharp selling pressure on Thursday. The Nifty 50 index crashed 253 points and closed at 24,888, the BSE Sensex nosedived 823 points and ended at 81,691, while the Bank Nifty index finished 377 points lower at 56,082. A sharp fall in US market futures and escalating tensions in West Asia weighed down investor sentiment. Trading volumes on the NSE cash market were down by 7% compared to Wednesday. Apollo Hospital, Asian Paints, and Bajaj Finserv were among the major gainers on the Nifty, showing some resilience. Conversely, Tata Motors, Trent, and Titan faced significant selling pressure and became major losers. Speaking on the outlook of the Nifty 50 today, Shiju Kuthupalakkal, Senior Manager of Technical Research at Prabhudas Lilladher, said, "The Nifty 50 index, after witnessing tough resistance near the 25,200 zone, finally tanked below the 25,000 level with heavy profit booking post the lunch session dragged the index to the 24,850 zone with bias and sentiment turned little bit weak. The index has got the next major support positioned near the 24,500 zones, and from here on, for the bias to improve, it would once again need a decent revival and a decisive breach above the 25,200 level to anticipate a further rise in the coming days." "The Bank Nifty index once again continued with the erosion from the peak made near the 57000 zone and has slipped towards the 56000 level where the crucial support zone is positioned, which needs to be sustained to maintain the overall trend intact. After the recent breakout witnessed, the index has fizzled out in the last four sessions and, with the sentiment turning cautious once again, can keep a check for the crucial zone near the 56000 level. If a revival is confirmed, we can expect a further rise in the coming days," Shiju Kuthupalakkal said.
