Education autonomy and cancer centre key topics at MA63 talks
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof (pic) confirmed the state's push for English as the medium of instruction, especially in STEM subjects.
'The main challenge lies in the national policy that sets uniformity in terms of curriculum and language,' he said.
He suggested maintaining current policies while expanding initiatives like the Dual Language Programme (DLP) already in place in Sarawak.
Fadillah also highlighted discussions on a proposed cancer centre to improve healthcare access for Sarawakians.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian previously stated the centre would need at least 310 beds for long-term patient care.
This figure exceeds the initial proposal of 200 beds following expert recommendations during project planning. - Bernama

Pork Smuggling, Pan Borneo Highway Status Among Focus At Dewan Rakyat Today
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The Dewan Rakyat session today will see focus on issues such as pork smuggling, status of the Pan Borneo Highway (LPB) construction, and the resignations of doctors and nurses in public healthcare facilities. According to the Order Paper on the Parliament website, Sim Tze Tzin (PH-Bayan Baru), during the oral question session, will query the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security on the enforcement actions by the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (MAQIS) against pork smuggling, which poses a threat with the spread of Streptococcus suis and African Swine Fever. Sim will also seek clarification on the number of arrests made for pork smuggling activities throughout this year. During the same session, Datuk Dr Alias Razak (PN-Kuala Nerus) will ask the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability to explain the status of feasibility studies related to rare earth element (REE) mining activities in Permanent Forest Reserves (HSK) and the timeline for the completion of the study. Datuk Matbali Musah (GRS-Sipitang) will question the Minister of Works about the current status and detailed timeline for each phase of the Pan Borneo Highway construction, specifically for WP01 (Sindumin-Melalia) and WP02 (Melalia-Beaufort) sections. Meanwhile, Wong Shu Qi (PH-Kluang) will ask the Minister of Health to provide detailed information on the number of doctors and nurses who have resigned, the number of recruits from 2020 to June 30, 2025, and the measures being implemented to address staff shortages in government hospitals. Following the Q&A session, the Dewan Rakyat will resume with winding-up speeches on the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) by the relevant ministers. His height and temper has inspired the term 'the Napoleon Complex', which later became a popular belief that short men tend to compensate for their lack of height through domineering behavior and aggression. So, is it true? Was he really a tiny titan, or is this one of history's tallest tales? Verdict: FALSE The notion of Napoleon being short may be one of history's most enduring misconceptions. Part of the ongoing confusion seems to stem from the difference in the French and English measuring systems back in the day. The French "pouce" is equal to 1.06 English inches, which meant that in France at the time, Napoleon was said to be five feet two inches tall.
