Amid SC Order, Video Imagines ‘If Stray Dogs Could Talk': ‘Mere Ko Thodi Na Lekar Jayenge'

News183 days ago
Animal lovers and welfare groups have taken to social media to voice their concerns.
The Supreme Court's directive on removing all stray dogs from the streets of Delhi and NCR has set off a wave of reactions across the country. With civic bodies now asked to place the dogs in shelters and not release them back, animal lovers and welfare groups have taken to social media to voice their concerns.
Many of these clips try to show what stray dogs might say if they had a voice of their own.
'What If Dogs Could Talk Today'
One such video, shared by content creator Shirin Sewani, imagines the emotions of a street dog. She plays the role of a dog to explain how strays quietly become a part of people's lives, from playing with children to guarding neighbourhoods.
In her caption, she simply wrote: 'Spread the word." She could be heard saying in the video, 'Mere Ko Thodi Na Lekar Jayenge."
Emotional Goodbye Messages
Another moving video, posted by Sumit Mishra, takes a heartbreaking approach. A voiceover says: 'Goodbye everyone, I'm leaving. Where? I don't know. Maybe now I won't come when you call me lovingly. You won't see the warmth in my eyes, and I won't be able to share my endless love. I will leave your streets empty."
Mishra captioned his video with the line: 'Meri aawaz tum bano (Be my voice)."
'They Don't Have A Voice'
Other viral clips also carry emotional messages. One post recalls how stray dogs are part of everyday life: 'They don't have a voice. We do." They sat outside our tea stalls. They chased our bikes just for fun. They wagged their tails like they'd been waiting all day… just for us."
The video then adds, 'But when they're gone, the streets won't just be quieter… they'll be emptier. We can wash our hands later — but how will we wash away the loneliness?"
AI-Generated Voices Of Stray Dogs
Some creators are even using artificial intelligence to bring stray dogs 'to life." In one such video, two animated dogs named Dogesh and Kalu discuss the court's order.
'They will put dogs in cages," says one. The other replies, 'So will they put foreign dogs in cages too?"
The first responds, 'No, only us street dogs."
The clip highlights that stray dogs are also part of this country and deserve freedom. The video was captioned 'The Tale of Dogesh & Kalu!"

Showing Both Sides
Another widely shared video tries to capture both perspectives. It explains that the court order was meant to ensure children can go to school without fear and that elderly people can walk freely. At the same time, it shows the bonds people share with the dogs they feed and care for in their localities.

Supreme Court Proceedings
On August 14, a three-judge Bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta and NV Anjaria reserved the order on an interim plea seeking a stay on the removal of stray dogs. The judges noted that the issue had grown serious because local authorities failed to act on existing rules. The court noted that this exacerbated the problem today, where humans were suffering and animal lovers wanted dogs to be protected.
