Women police officers to act as student link officers to tackle rising suicide cases in Bhubaneswar
The decision was announced during a programme, 'Commissionerate Police - Student Connect: For Better Safety and Security of Students', organised at the Police Seva Bhawan here on Thursday. This comes after two Nepali students studying in a private university here allegedly died by suicide in a span of three months.
The link officers will help address the psychological or legal issues faced by students, and offer assistance to them without needing their physical appearance at the police stations. Commissionerate Police's IT and social media cell ACP, Suchismita Das has been designated as the nodal officer for the students in distress.
During the event, police commissioner S Dev Datta Singh asked the educational institutions to enhance CCTV coverage on their respective campuses. He also informed that self defence programmes will be organised in schools and colleges here to train the students to protect themselves from any potential harm or violence. This apart, awareness drives on cyber crimes will also be organised in all educational institutions, Singh added.
The first session on a series of such upcoming activities was also conducted on the day. About 170 female students participated and interacted with the senior officers. They also expressed their opinions to strengthen the safety and security of the women.
The city police highlighted the need for such interactive sessions and called upon the students to act as volunteers and report incidents of harassment without any fear. Additional CP Narasingha Bhol, DCP Jagmohan Meena and other senior officers were present.

The PRV had gone to attend to and help two injured passengers of a Thar which had hit the central verge. Officers said head constable Anuj Chaudhary, and constable Pankaj Singh, 28, were on-duty on the PRV when they received a call at 12.12am that a Thar SUV, headed to Meerut, had hit the central verge of the expressway, and its passengers required help. The accident took place near the Amrala underpass area on the Ghaziabad-Meerut carriageway of the DME near Bhojpur, they added. 'Both the constables visited the spot to help the SUV driver who had suffered minor injuries. Upon reaching the site, they parked the PRV roadside and decided to take the SUV passengers to a healthcare facility. In between, the SUV driver asked the policemen to lock his Thar. So, Singh went to lock the SUV, and Chaudhary decided to provide them first aid through a medical-kit placed in the PRV. So, he went to fetch the medical-kit,' said assistant commissioner of police (Modinagar circle) Amit Saxena. Officers said just at the time of trying to lock the SUV, a speeding truck coming from Ghaziabad rammed into the police vehicle from behind, where Chaudhary was standing. 'Chaudhary suffered severe injuries due to the hit. Passengers of the Thar SUV also suffered injuries, including one who suffered a hand fracture. Police were called, and the injured were rushed to a hospital. There, Chaudhary succumbed to injuries. The PRV also suffered major damage,' the ACP added. Police have detained the truck driver, Rishikesh Kumar, 35, and also seized the truck bearing the registration number of Rajasthan. Officers said that an FIR will soon be registered against the truck driver at Bhojpur police station.

UP cop killed as truck rams into Police Response Vehicle in Ghaziabad
Ghaziabad (UP), Aug 11 (PTI) A head constable posted on a Police Response Vehicle (PRV) died after a truck rammed into it while he was providing first aid to a road accident victim, officials said on Monday. Head constables Anuj Chowdhary (40) and Pankaj Chowdhary reached the spot late Sunday night after receiving information about an accident on the Peripheral Expressway here, ACP (Modinagar) Amit Saxena said. While they were taking out a medical first-aid kit from the trunk of the PRV to treat the injured person, a speeding truck coming from behind hit the vehicle, he said. Independence Day 2025: traffic restrictions in Gurgaon and Faridabad start tomorrow
In preparation for Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2025, the traffic police in Gurgaon and Faridabad have imposed strict restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhanced security. Heavy vehicles will be barred from entering Delhi from Gurgaon during two periods: from 5 pm on August 12 to 1.30 pm on August 13, and from 5 pm on August 14 to 1.30 pm on August 15. The police have directed drivers to use the KMP Expressway for travel to other states or districts and to park vehicles only in designated areas to avoid disruptions. Similarly, the police have announced a complete ban on heavy vehicle entry into Faridabad and towards Delhi from 10 pm on August 12 to 2 pm on August 13, for the full dress rehearsal, and from 10 pm on August 14 to 2 pm on August 15, for the Independence Day celebrations. The restricted routes include Badarpur Border, Prahladpur, Karni Singh Shooting Range, Surajkund Gol Chakkar, Durga Builder, Mangar Chowki Naka, Dera Fatehpur, Sector 30 Cut, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Sikri, NH-19 (Palwal Road), and Elson JCB Chowk, apart from other major and minor roads. in Faridabad, exemptions have been granted for vehicles carrying essential supplies such as milk, fruits, vegetables, food items, medicines, and medical supplies, as well as fire services, ambulances, police, emergency service vehicles, and those transporting petrol, diesel, or CNG. Vehicles with special government or administrative permissions will also be allowed, the police said. Traffic police will be deployed to enforce the restrictions, and violations will attract strict action under the Motor Vehicles Act, the police said.
