2025 BMW CE 04 teased ahead of launch. Check details
BMW Motorrad is set to unveil the new CE 04 electric scooter on July 3, 2025. A teaser image provides a clue of a visual refresh as the scooter is presented in a matte blue colour scheme. While official details are yet to be disclosed, the teaser has created speculation of cosmetic and feature updates. The CE 04 made its global debut in 2022 but officially launched in India in 2024 at an ex-showroom price of ₹ 15.25 lakh.
2025 BMW CE 04: Design
The CE 04 has been primarily known for its innovative styling and the new model appears to have upheld this innovative character. The matte blue color unveiled in the teaser hints that BMW may be launching fresh colour schemes to rejuvenate the visual appeal.
But whether the facelift brings significant bodywork revisions or subtle tweaks is unclear. Its current CE 04 has a low-slung profile, angular and sharp body panels, and a flat long seat that makes it look stretched and maxi-scooter urban. The new model should maintain this visual DNA, but may bring new trims or personalization possibilities. 2025 BMW CE 04: Features
The CE 04 already comes well-stocked in the tech department, and BMW might go further in its list of features here with this refresh. The current model comes with three riding modes (Eco, Rain, Road), LED lighting, keyless start, and a reverse gear. An enormous 10.25-inch TFT screen takes center stage on the dash, providing GPS navigation, smartphone integration, and real-time ride and charging information.
Moreover, BMW provides optional Comfort and Dynamic packages that include features like heated grips, a backrested seat for added support, adaptive headlamps, and additional comfort and handling customisation options. 2025 BMW CE 04: Specifications
Mechanically, the updated CE 04 is likely to retain the proven setup from the current model. That includes a liquid-cooled electric motor producing 41 bhp and 62 Nm of torque, good for a 0–50 km/h sprint in just 2.6 seconds. It has a top speed of 120 km/h and draws power from an 8.5 kWh battery, offering a claimed range of 130 km on a full charge. The scooter is built on a double-loop steel frame, with suspension duties handled by a single-bridge telescopic fork at the front and a single-sided swingarm with direct suspension at the rear. Braking is managed by 265mm disc brakes at both ends, paired with 15-inch wheels. 2025 BMW CE 04: Price and Launch
The global unveiling of the updated CE 04 takes place on July 3, 2025, and prices are likely to be commensurate with or a little higher than the existing model. In India, the scooter was unveiled last year at ₹ 15.25 lakh, ex-showroom. With the upcoming refresh, BMW Motorrad is poised to reinforce the CE 04's appeal by making its design better, its technology package richer, and even possibly its efficiency.

What did SC tell the 'qualified IT professional' who wanted crores in alimony after just 1.5 years of marriage?
In a strong message that may well set a precedent, the Supreme Court of India has drawn a sharp line between legitimate maintenance and unreasonable demands, especially in short-lived marriages. The apex court recently heard a high-profile alimony case where a woman demanded Rs 12 crore, a BMW car, and a luxury apartment in Mumbai, after just 18 months of marriage. The Court's response was firm: "You're educated, earn yourself." You've done your MBA. You're in demand in cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad... Why don't you work?' Highlighting that the marriage lasted only 18 months, the CJI further remarked (via Bar and Bench): 'It lasted just 18 months. And you are seeking a crore a month?' The Court viewed the demand as excessive and stressed that maintenance is not a substitute for self-reliance. The Court's Verdict: Dignity Over Dependence The Court offered the woman two options: Accept the luxury apartment without legal entanglements, or Opt for a one-time settlement of Rs 4 crore The Bench reiterated its stance with a powerful closing note: 'You are well-educated. You should not be depending on handouts. You should earn and live with dignity.' This case echoes a series of recent judgements where Indian courts clarified that maintenance laws are for support, not entitlement: In March 2025, the Delhi High Court ruled that Section 125 of CrPC is meant to protect, not reward, individuals who avoid work despite being qualified. The court said: 'A well-educated wife with ability and past work experience should not remain idle solely to claim maintenance.' In December 2024, the Supreme Court ruled that alimony cannot be claimed merely to match the husband's wealth. The Court said a husband is not obligated to maintain his ex-wife as per his rising financial status after separation. The Supreme Court's latest observation sends a powerful message: Education and skills are empowerment tools, and the law encourages individuals, especially women, to use them. Inputs from TOI

After Coldplay scandal, Astronomer hires Chris Martin's ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow to help with the PR mess: 'Thank you for your interest in…'
Astronomer has made an attempt to salvage the company's reputation after the Coldplay kiss cam cheating scandal spiralled out of proportion on social media. The company has hired Gwyneth Paltrow , the ex-wife of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin to help the AI startup with some public relations. The company had all of social media buzzing again, this time for hiring Paltrow to mock the widely shared kiss cam controversy involving their former CEO Andy Byron and former HR head Kristin Cabot. The Hollywood actress featured in a promotional video in which she reveals that she has been engaged on a "very temporary basis" by the tech startup to represent over 300 employees and to respond to a few simple questions. The Hollywood actress who is known for her role in 'Iron Man' then went on to say that the company had "gotten a lot of questions in the last few days, and they wanted me to answer the most common ones." But instead of addressing the controversy, Ms. Paltrow avoids all the questions and begins outlining how the company works. Paltrow, who cheerfully quipped that the New York-based firm is "thrilled so many people have a newfound interest in data workflow automation." The clip then shifts to another question about how the firm's social media team is handling the PR mess - only to be cut off mid-sentence. This video comes more than a week after Byron and Cabot, who have since resigned from their positions in the company, were caught in a compromising position on the kiss cam during the Coldplay concert. It was their uncomfortable reaction to the "kiss cam" that quickly went viral on social media, triggering various reactions. The urgent manner in which the couple hid made Coldplay's frontman Chris Martin also suspect that they were either having an affair or they were very shy. It wasn't long before the internet discovered that both Kristin Cabot and Andy Byron were married to other people. Cabot is married to Andrew Cabot, the owner of the Privateer Rum and a member of one of Boston's richest families, whereas Byron's wife is Megan Kerrigan and shares 3 children.

India-UK FTA: Aston Martin, Mini Cooper could get cheaper by up to 40% in India
British-made luxury cars from the stables of Aston Martin and Mini could get cheaper for Indians roughly between 25 per cent and 40 per cent after the new tariff structure of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) is implemented. Under the agreement, tariffs on imports of internal combustion engine (ICE) cars will be slashed to 30-50 per cent in the first year of implementation, with the benefit limited to a quota of 20,000 cars. The tariffs will be reduced gradually, and after 15 years, they will become 10 per cent, with the quota set at 15,000 units. For out-of-quota imports of ICE cars, the duties are reduced to 60-95 per cent in the first year, and further to 45-50 per cent from the tenth year onwards. In 2016, the rough CIF (cost, insurance and freight) value of the Mini Cooper S, the standard version of the popular hatchback, was $17,682 when it was imported into India in October that year, according to data from a trade intelligence platform. In 2016, the car retailed for around $23,000 in the USA, suggesting a markup over its rough CIF of a little over $5,000. In 2025, the car retails for around $30,000 (Rs 26 lakh in 2025) there. In India, the base version of the car starts from around Rs 45 lakh currently, since it currently incurs a duty of about 70 per cent, which amounts to Rs 13.5 lakh. Based on these figures, the rough CIF of the Mini Cooper that's imported into India from the UK currently could be around Rs 21 lakh ($24,000). So, when the new tariff rates, facilitated by the CETA kick in, the duty on the Mini Cooper could go down from the current 70 per cent to between 30-50 per cent. At 30 per cent, the car could cost Rs 27.3 lakh, down from the current Rs 45 lakh, a saving of nearly 40 per cent. At 50 per cent, the car could cost Rs 31.5 lakh, which would still be a saving of 30 per cent. These are the initial rates, and prices could fall in subsequent years when the duty reduces further. Similarly, in 2016, an Aston Martin Vanquish was imported in India at a CIF value of $214,607, as per data available with the trade platform, and in that year, the car retailed for around $290,000. Adjusting for currency changes and some inflation, the car's current CIF value could be around $320,000 (Rs 2.8 crore). Currently, the car retails in India for Rs 8.85 crore, and it is understood to attract at least 100 per cent in customs duty, amounting to around Rs 4.5 crore. When this duty is reduced to 50 per cent, that could lower the sticker price of the car to Rs 6.7 crore, which would be cheaper by around 24 per cent. It needs to be noted that these rough calculations do not account for fluctuations in demand or production costs, company markup, currency differentials and inflation. Aston Martin and BMW (the parent company of Mini) did not respond to an immediate request for comment. Currently, India's import tariffs on passenger vehicles range from 70-110 per cent while those on trucks stand at 40 per cent. Industry executives said that import quotas have been implemented to avoid sudden surges in imports and safeguard the Indian auto industry. The duty reduction, ranging from 16 per cent to 56 per cent over a period up to 5 years on ICE vehicles up to 2500 cc (diesel)/3000 cc (petrol) and 80 per cent to 100 per cent over a period of 5 years on ICE vehicles more than 2500 cc (diesel)/3000 cc (petrol), is expected to make high-end vehicles more accessible. For electric vehicles (EVs), hybrids, and hydrogen fuel-based cars, tariffs have been eliminated entirely for units priced under £40,000 CIF (cost, insurance and freight value). For zero-emission cars priced between £40,000 to £80,000, tariffs are reduced to 50 per cent and a quota of 400, which from the fifteenth year will become 10 per cent and 2,000 respectively.
