Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's much-awaited film War 2 released on 14 August. The latest installment in the YRF spy universe marks Jr NTR's Bollywood debut. It also stars Kiara Advani. As the first reviews of War 2 surface on X (formerly Twitter), fans appear divided about the film. While some praised the actors in the action sequences, others were disappointed by the weak storyline and subpar VFX.
A user wrote, 'Interval of #War2, watching the first show in the UK and what a film! Haven't seen such a scale for any Bollywood film yet. The action, the class and the mass packed in the best manner. A whole new chapter for Spy Universe! Breaking conventions with stalwarts.'
'#War2 An okayish action entertainer. Not great, not bad either - Strictly MID. Note: #NTR Fans should keep their expectations in check. There are moments where you whistle, but there are moments that will frustrate you but the ending sort of pulls it back and you will walk out of the theatre feeling somewhat satisfied,' another post read.
Rating the film 3 out of 5, another fan shared what worked and what didn't in War 2: 'War 2 picks up after Tiger 3, pitting Hrithik Roshan's magnetic rogue RAW agent Kabir against Jr NTR's Special Units Officer Vikram in a stylish, globe-trotting action spectacle. Jr NTR makes a commanding Bollywood debut, bringing raw power, screen dominance, and an intense physicality to every scene. His sharp combat style, confident body language, and magnetic presence make his face-offs with Hrithik the film's biggest adrenaline moments, while his grace in Janaab-e-Aali shows his versatility beyond action. Fans call him a 'beast' on screen, though his role could have had more depth and screen time. The film's first half is slick and thrilling, packed with exotic locations, high-octane stunts, and the star power of its leads. Hrithik matches NTR's intensity with emotional weight and charisma, while Kiara Advani adds style despite limited narrative space. However, the predictable storyline, slower second half, and patchy VFX (notably the boat chase) stop it from reaching the freshness of the original War.'
'#War2 is a strictly mediocre action thriller, leaning heavily on style over substance,' posted one more.
'2nd half: good back story, but story falls flat & predictable. Lacks emotional connect. Both actors nailed their respective performances. @tarak9999 acting & looks will shut every hater. Result & BO depends on Coolie now. #War2Review #War2 #YRFSpyUniverse (sic),' shared a fan who was impressed by Hrithik and Jr NTR.
Someone also reviewed saying, 'Kaapadu Thatha. Poor man Mission impossible.'
War 2 is directed by Ayan Mukerji.
It is clashing with Rajinikanth's Coolie at the box office.

Nagarjuna reacts to Coolie's box office success, opens up on sharing screen with Rajinikanth: 'Records had to break'

Rajinikanth may be at the front and centre of Coolie's box office success, but the film's pan-India appeal has been enhanced by the presence of superstars Nagarjuna and Upendra. Nagarjuna, in particular, surprised fans with his menacing antagonist turn as Simon, the film's ruthless villain. Nagarjuna is the main antagonist of Coolie. Nagarjuna addresses Coolie's success In a statement, the Telugu superstar has addressed the record-breaking opening of Coolie. "The love that Coolie has received across the world has been nothing short of historic," Nagarjuna says after the film raked in over ₹250 crore in two days, registering the best-ever opening by a Tamil film. The film's Telugu version, buoyed by Nagarjuna-Rajni combine, outperformed Jr NTR and Hrithik Roshan's War 2 in many territories, including North America. Coolie's Telugu version earned $1.3 million in North America on the opening day, as opposed to $610K for War 2. Nagarjuna on Rajinikanth Talking about this record-breaking performance of the film and his partnership with Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna adds, 'Partnering with Rajinikanth on a film of this scale was an unforgettable experience; there's a magnetic magic when two journeys like ours meet on screen. We knew we were part of something special, and the energy around the film is an indicator of the same. The unanimous response to my role has been overwhelming. It's a reminder that great cinema is built on collaboration, chemistry, and the thrill of giving audiences something they will remember long after the credits roll. From the sets to the theatres, Coolie has been a celebration of legacy and reinvention; records had to break, and they did.' Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna's presence has led to Coolie outperforming War 2 in Telugu markets. This marks back-to-back bilingual successes for Nagarjuna. Right before Lokesh Kanagaraj's Coolie, he starred in a grey role in Kuberaa, the Tamil-Telugu film that also featured Dhanush and Rashmika Mandanna. Up next, the actor will be seen on the big screen again as his iconic Telugu film Siva gears up for a grand re-release in cinemas in 4K and Dolby Atmos. About Coolie Coolie has so far grossed ₹250 crore worldwide. Apart from Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna, the film also stars Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and Soubin Shahir. Udaipur Files Producer SLAMS Hindu Audience For Watching Saiyaara, War 2 And Coolie: 'Jihaad Jeet Gaya'

Last Updated: Udaipur Files producer Amit Jani slammed Hindu audiences after the film's box office failure, accusing them of ignoring Kanhaiya Lal's story while choosing Saiyaara, War 2, Coolie. Udaipur Files, starring Vijay Raaz, released in theatres on August 8, 2025, but the film has failed to make an impression at the box office. According to trade portal Sacnilk, the movie has managed to collect only ₹1.54 crore so far, and is being labelled a flop. On Friday, the film's producer Amit Jani took to X (formerly Twitter) and launched a scathing attack on the audience, particularly the Hindu community, for not supporting his film. He accused them of ignoring Udaipur Files, which, according to him, depicts the 'true story" of murdered tailor Kanhaiya Lal, while readily spending money on films like Saiyaara, War 2, and Coolie. Amit Jani's Strong Remarks In a tweet, Jani wrote, 'Jihaad ne sanaatan ki muhim aur Kanhaiya Lal ji ke nyaay ki koshishon par thook diya.." जिहाद ने सनातन की मुहिम और कन्हैयालाल जी के न्याय की कोशिशों पर थूक दिया.. #UdaipurFiles — Amit Jani (@AmitJaniIND) August 15, 2025 He also posted a video message, where he expressed disappointment that the film would soon be pulled from theatres. 'There is good news for Muslims," Jani said sarcastically, adding that Udaipur Files would be out of cinemas in the next two days due to poor performance. He further claimed that Hindu audiences were 'dead and sleeping" while ignoring a film made on Kanhaiya Lal's story. Comparison With Other Films Jani went on to criticize the audience for making films like Saiyaara successful, despite, in his words, its 'promotion of nudity and obscenity." He alleged that viewers would now flock to see big-ticket releases such as Hrithik Roshan's War 2 and Rajinikanth's Coolie, filling theatres and contributing crores at the box office, while neglecting his project. 'No one had the time and money to watch Udaipur Files, which showed the true story of tailor Kanhaiya Lal," Jani said. The producer also revealed that he will be facing a loss of ₹10–12 crore due to the film's underperformance. Despite his disappointment, Jani insisted that he made the film with genuine intent to tell a powerful story, but the lack of audience support has left him disillusioned. The Film's Box Office Fate With Udaipur Files collecting only ₹1.54 crore till date, trade experts have officially declared the film a box office failure. Its run in theatres is expected to end shortly, with major releases dominating screens across the country. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
