Malaysia MADANI policies boosted by Friends of Ministry grassroots initiative
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi emphasised its role in strengthening ties between ministries and parliamentarians.
He described the programme as a platform for sharing information while directly addressing public concerns.
The minister made these remarks during an appointment letters ceremony held in Parliament.
Paya Besar MP Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah, who chairs the MADANI Government Backbenchers Club, attended alongside fellow parliamentarians.
Nanta outlined FOM's core functions including policy feedback collection and implementation support.
The initiative also focuses on improving multi-level communication channels between stakeholders.
Current infrastructure projects under FOM coordination include the Pan Borneo Highway and Sarawak-Sabah Link Road.
Nanta highlighted the Trans Borneo Highway and Central Spine Road upgrades as key developments.
He stressed that collaborative efforts would ensure safer and more sustainable infrastructure nationwide.
The minister expressed confidence in delivering long-term public benefits through this partnership model.

Baseless suit against PM
LETTER | We register our strongest objection to the legal action initiated by P Waythamoorthy seeking to disqualify Anwar Ibrahim as Tambun MP and as the prime minister. This reckless litigation is not only legally untenable but also a gross abuse of judicial process. It undermines the Federal Constitution, the royal prerogative of pardon, and the democratic mandate of the people. 1. Royal pardon is final and binding Anwar received a full and unconditional royal pardon in 2018. Constitutionally, such a pardon has the effect of erasing all legal disqualifications. By challenging this, the plaintiff has shown blatant disrespect to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's prerogative powers under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution. 2. No AG's consent This suit purports to question matters of public right without obtaining the fiat (consent) of the attorney-general. Filing such an action without the AG's sanction is procedurally defective and could expose the plaintiff to penal consequences for frivolous and vexatious litigation. 3. Time-barred and incompetent Any challenge to the validity of an MP's election must be filed within 21 days under Article 118 of the Federal Constitution and Section 38 of the Election Offences Act 1954. Waytha's filing, more than two years after the Tambun election, is barred by law and amounts to a deliberate abuse of court process. 4. Lack of locus standi The plaintiff has no standing to maintain this suit. He is neither a voter of Tambun nor a person directly affected. Malaysian jurisprudence, particularly Government of Malaysia v Lim Kit Siang [1988] 2 MLJ 12, makes it clear that public interest litigation without locus standi or AG's fiat is not permitted. 5. Penal consequences for misuse of process Waytha's conduct may warrant sanctions under the law: Order 18 Rule 19 of the Rules of Court 2012 – permits striking out of actions that are scandalous, frivolous, or vexatious, with costs on an indemnity basis. Section 35, Legal Profession Act 1976 – as a lawyer, knowingly filing a baseless action could amount to professional misconduct. Contempt of court – Persisting in actions that scandalise the royal prerogative of pardon or abuse judicial process may amount to contempt, which carries imprisonment or fines. Penal Code, Section 177 – knowingly furnishing false information to a public servant in judicial proceedings may attract criminal liability. Such punitive measures exist to protect the dignity of the courts and to deter individuals from weaponising the judiciary for political theatrics. 6. Insult to democracy and monarchy This suit disrespects the will of the electorate in Tambun, the authority of Parliament, and the solemn decision of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in appointing the prime minister. To misuse the courts in this manner is not only irresponsible but borders on an attempt to destabilise the constitutional order. This legal charade must be struck down swiftly. The courts should not only dismiss the action but also consider penal sanctions to send a clear message that our judiciary cannot be misused for baseless political stunts. ‘Harmonise TVET skills recognition'
KUALA LUMPUR: Asean nations should empower the Asean TVET Council to establish a cross-border framework for recognising technical and vocational skills, ensuring that qualifications earned in one member state are accepted across the region, says Human Resources Minister Steven Sim. He explained that the newly established Asean TVET Council should spearhead efforts to harmonise certification standards among member states. 'Skills taught in Malaysia should be recognised in Thailand or Indonesia, and those taught in Indonesia should be recognised in Vietnam or the Philippines. Skills are the currency of the AI economy, and mutual recognition is key,' he said. He said Malaysia, which spends about RM10bil annually on TVET, had already opened its National Training Week to Asean participants, offering more than 72,000 free training courses worth RM400mil to 3.5 million people. Asean, he said, must adopt a more collaborative approach to the 21st-century economy, moving away from zero-sum competition that drives the region into a 'race to the bottom'. He cited the electric vehicle (EV) industry as an example in which Asean could collaborate rather than undercut one another. 'Asean should do the same with EVs, leveraging our core strengths instead of engaging in destructive price wars,' he said. Sim noted that Asean had already achieved breakthroughs in areas such as regional standards for green financing, the Asean power grid, the Asean Digital Economy Framework Agreement, and, more recently, real-time cross-border e-payments. 'There is no reason we cannot extend this model to EVs, semiconductors or the green economy,' he said at the Dialogue Session with the Minister on Fostering Cooperation Among Youths in Asean yesterday. Sim also said the Malaysian Gig Workers Bill, set to be tabled in Parliament this month, seeks to safeguard workers' rights while avoiding undue strain on businesses and the economy. This would mark Malaysia's first legislation for gig workers, placing the country among the handful worldwide with such laws. He said the ministry had engaged more than 4,000 stakeholders – from employers and unions to academics and NGOs – to ensure the Bill provides protection for workers while not imposing unnecessary burdens on the system. 'The government has always been rational when it comes to balancing development with protection. We want to see the digital economy grow, but not at the expense of workers' rights,' he said. Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) president Datuk Ng Yih Pyng said the 'Asean & Beyond: Young Entrepreneurs Dialogue 2025' was built on three key objectives – to provide a platform for Asean youth to exchange ideas, to encourage socio-economic cooperation, and to expand regional markets to create more opportunities for young entrepreneurs. 'This platform is about forging partnerships, sparking innovation and fostering inclusive economic growth,' he said in his welcome remarks. Ng said that young entrepreneurs were at the forefront of shaping the region's future by driving innovation, building resilience and opening new markets. As the organiser, he said ACCCIM remained committed to empowering future business leaders by equipping them with networks, knowledge and platforms to build a connected, innovative and sustainable Asean. He said the dialogue came at a time of shifting global trade dynamics, with several Asean economies, including Malaysia, facing US-imposed tariffs averaging 19%. Ng said that under the Asean Community Vision 2025, the Asean Economic Community had significant potential to boost intra-regional trade, supported by a population of nearly 660 million and a combined GDP of more than US$3.8 trillion. Also present were ACCCIM secretary-general Datuk Jeffery Tan, ACCCIM Young Entrepreneurs Committee chairman Leon Lee, and organising committee chairman Chong Khai Siang.

KMJG 2025 convoy tours KL constituencies with strong public support
KUALA LUMPUR: The Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2025 convoy for Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya wrapped up its tour of three parliamentary constituencies today. Public enthusiasm was evident as crowds gathered to welcome the convoy and receive the Jalur Gemilang flags. Lt Col (PA) Sabarudin Yeop Hamzah, Director Associate of JAPEN WPKLP, highlighted the overwhelming response from residents. He noted that around 3,000 flags were distributed to ignite national pride ahead of National Day and Malaysia Day. The convoy's final stop at McDonald's Pantai Sentral Park saw drive-through participants receiving flags. Sabarudin credited the event's success to collaboration between government agencies, NGOs, and the MADANI community. He emphasised the importance of sustaining such partnerships for future campaigns. Public reactions were overwhelmingly positive, with cheerful faces and encouraging feedback observed throughout the route. Supporting agencies included MKN, JBPM, Bernama, FINAS, RTD, and PDRM. The KMJG 2025 flag was handed over to Sabarudin after the Pahang leg concluded on Aug 14. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim launched the nationwide campaign on July 27 in Muar, Johor. The convoy will make 88 stops across Malaysia, including 44 in Peninsular Malaysia and 42 in Sabah and Sarawak. The journey will culminate at Dataran Putrajaya on Aug 31 for the National Day celebration.
