Depleted Braves acquire pitcher Carlos Carrasco from Yankees for cash considerations
The New York Yankees traded veteran pitcher Carlos Carrasco to the depleted Atlanta Braves on Monday for cash considerations.

The Braves acquired Carrasco a day after losing Grant Holmes to right elbow inflammation on Sunday. Holmes was originally placed on the 15-day injured list but moved to the 60-day IL after Erick Fedde was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals.

With the news involving Holmes, all five of Atlanta's opening day rotation are on the 60-day injured list. Atlanta lost at Texas 8-1 Sunday, has dropped five in a row and is 12 games behind in the NL wild-card race.

Carrasco was in spring training on a minor league deal and could have opted out but he was re-signed after posting a 1.69 ERA in five spring training outings, including four starts. After accepting his assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre, the 38-year-old right-hander was 4-2 with a 3.27 ERA in 11 games (10 starts) and was 4-0 with a 2.23 ERA in five July starts.

Originally acquired by the Cleveland Guardians from the Phillies for Cliff Lee in July 2009, Carrasco is 112-105 with a 4.18 ERA in 332 games (283) starts for Cleveland, the New York Mets and Yankees.

From draft day doubts to Phillies' Wall of Fame: Jimmy Rollins' journey puts him with team greats
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jimmy Rollins was a Bay Area kid who grew up rooting for Rickey Henderson and admiring Jackie Robinson as he blossomed into one of the top high school prospects in baseball. So when the Philadelphia Phillies called in 1996 to tell the slick-fielding shortstop they had picked him in the second round of the draft, Rollins had one major question. 'I'm like, 'Who?' ' Rollins said with a laugh. Yes, the Phillies, one of the worst organizations in baseball throughout the late 1990s — and one Rollins turned into a perennial winner. Rollins led the Phillies to five straight NL East titles, the 2008 World Series championship, and another NL pennant the next year. He was the 2007 NL MVP, a three-time All-Star, had a 38-game hitting streak and set the franchise record for hits with 2,306. He had one more major franchise accolade to accomplish. Rollins at last took his place with Hall of Famers Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton and was inducted Friday night into the Phillies' Wall of Fame. 'I was meant to be here,' Rollins said. 'I got drafted here. I told my mom when we got drafted, I'm going to win a championship in this city. That's what it became about for me, was chasing that championship.' The core of that Phillies' run — five division titles from 2007-2011 on the strength of homegrown talent such as Rollins, Ryan Howard, Cole Hamels and Chase Utley — was built by former general manager Ed Wade. Wade, who helped move the organization into Citizens Bank Park in 2004, received his spot on the Wall with Rollins on Friday night. Yankees release RHP Marcus Stroman among post-deadline moves

Stroman, 34, was 3-2 with a 6.23 ERA in nine starts this season, while spending 2 1/2 months on the injured list with a left knee injury. New York is set to have right-hander Luis Gil make his season debut Sunday after he missed four months with a lat injury. The Yankees also optioned right-handers Yerry De los Santos and Ian Hamilton to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Before the trade deadline came to a conclusion Thursday, the Yankees revamped their bullpen by adding right-handers David Bednar (Pittsburgh Pirates), Camilo Doval (San Francisco Giants) and Jake Bird (Colorado Rockies). They also added infielder/outfielder Jose Caballero from the Tampa Bay Rays. All four were activated to the roster. Since joining the Yankees last season, Stroman went 13-11 with a 4.69 ERA in 39 appearances (38 starts). In 11 major league seasons with four clubs, including his first six with the Toronto Blue Jays, the two-time All-Star was 90-87 with a 3.79 ERA in 270 appearances (261 starts). De Los Santos, 27, had a 1.78 ERA in 17 relief appearances with the Yankees this season, while Hamilton, 30, was 2-1 with a 4.28 ERA in 36 appearances (one start). Bednar, 30, has 101 saves with the Pirates since 2021 and was 2-5 with a 2.37 ERA and 17 saves this season. Doval, 28, hads 107 saves in five seasons with the Giants and was 4-2 with a 3.09 ERA and 15 saves this season. Bird, 29, was 4-1 with a 4.73 ERA in 45 relief appearances with Colorado. Caballero, 28, was batting .226 with an American League-best 34 stolen bases for the Rays. He was tied for the MLB lead in steals with the Pirates' Oneil Cruz heading into Friday's games.
