KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 — Khazanah Nasional Bhd (Khazanah) and its subsidiary, Jelawang Capital (Jelawang), today announced the selection of the first five venture capital (VC) firms under the Jelawang Emerging Fund Managers' Programme (EMP) and Regional Fund Managers' Initiative (RMI).
The five VC firms are Vynn Capital, Kairous Capital, First Move, AppWorks and Granite Asia.
Home-grown VC firms Vynn Capital, Kairous Capital, and First Move have been selected under the EMP, while AppWorks and Granite Asia are partners under the RMI.
EMP is a programme structured to support Malaysian fund managers in raising their first, second or third fund with the goal of creating regionally competitive VC fund managers by strengthening fund governance, building track record and crowding in capital.
RMI is an initiative aimed at attracting regional and global fund managers who are committed to enriching the local startup ecosystem by supporting the growth of Malaysian startups to be regional and global players, facilitating the re-domiciliation of global companies in Malaysia to expand local job capabilities, and attracting quality talent in the Malaysian ecosystem.
Khazanah managing director Datuk Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir said the selection of the five VC firms reflects its commitment to nurturing local fund managers and VC ecosystem.
'Together, these five managers are expected to deploy over RM200 million. A significant portion of this will be channelled into Malaysia-Nexus companies, supporting around 50 early-stage firms.
'These five represent a blend of local roots and regional reach, and, most importantly, an alignment of values. They will back startups that dare to build, that dare to scale, and that carry Malaysia's ambition into the region and beyond,' he said in his speech when announcing the EMP and RMI here today.
He said that beyond capital, the selected managers, especially under the RMI (AppWorks and Granite Asia), have also committed to capacity-building programmes for Malaysian founders, including mentorships, accelerators, and masterclasses starting in 2025.
Also present at the event was Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
The five VC firms were selected through a rigorous evaluation process focused on the funds' investment thesis, strength of core team, governance and alignment with strategic national development priorities.
Overall, the selection of these partners under the EMP and RMI is in line with strategic approaches under the Malaysian Venture Capital Roadmap 2024 – 2030 to transform Malaysia into a preferred regional VC hub by 2030.
The first group of appointees marks a milestone in the broader RM1 billion committed under the MADANI Economy framework to support high-growth entrepreneurs and crowd-in institutional capital in early-stage fundraising.
This month, Kuala Lumpur entered the top 20 emerging startup ecosystems globally, ranking 18th in the Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2025 by Startup Genome.
Today, Malaysia's VC ecosystem remains modest, with just US$429 million (RM1.8 billion) in funding recorded in 2024. — Bernama

Gobind announces MyGOV Malaysia app to launch in July, streamlining access to govt services

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 — Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo today announced that the MyGOV Malaysia mobile application will be launched in July 2025. Gobind said the MyGOV Malaysia app is part of the nation's Government Technology (GovTech) initiative, aimed at providing Malaysians with easy access to various government agencies through a single gateway. 'This is part of the government's plan to transform Malaysia into a digital nation,' he said in a statement. 'It is only right to ensure we have a single platform where Malaysians can deal with various government agencies seamlessly.' The MyGOV Malaysia mobile application will initially focus on seven main services: travel (passport-related matters), registration (birth and citizenship), driving (road tax and driving licenses), healthcare (appointments and medical records), summons, housing (land tax/assessment rates), and the Rahmah Cash Aid (Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah). More features are expected to be added in the future. Gobind said MyGOV Malaysia will be integrated with MyDigital ID to streamline access to government services via a single, secure platform. 'Users will be able to verify their identity and access multiple services directly through the mobile application using their MyDigital ID credentials. 'This unified approach not only simplifies user interaction with government platforms but also underpins the broader commitment to digital inclusivity, trust, and service excellence by the Ministry of Digital,' he said. The app will allow Malaysians to access multiple services directly on their mobile devices. 'This is part of our journey in transforming Malaysia into a digital nation, a journey that will benefit Malaysians and ensure no one is left behind in a trusted digital environment,' he added. As of June 23, Gobind said 2,604,160 MyDigital ID registrations had been recorded. He added that the single sign-on integration will initially cover 34 main government system applications, with more services to be included soon. Gobind also highlighted that the development of MyGOV Malaysia involves collaborations with the private sector, including telecommunications companies and banking institutions. The end goal, he said, is to provide users with easier, safer access to services while benefiting the government by optimising operational costs at Urban Transformation Centres (UTCs) nationwide and improving productivity through better data-driven decision-making.

Malaysia's inflation eases to 1.2pc in May 2025, lowest in 51 months, says DOSM

KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 — Malaysia registered an inflation rate of 1.2 per cent in May 2025, the lowest in 51 months, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) at 134.4 versus 132.8 a year ago, according to the Statistics Department Malaysia (DOSM). In a statement today, it said Malaysia's slower inflation trend as an open economy was in line with selected countries and region, namely Eurozone (1.9 per cent), South Korea (1.9 per cent), Indonesia (1.6 per cent) and the Philippines (1.3 per cent), in tandem with the decline in global oil prices. 'The decline was also reflected in the Producer Price Index, which registered a -3.4 per cent in April 2025,' it said. The mining sector was the main contributor with a -17.8 per cent (March 2025: -15.0 per cent) due to a fall in crude petroleum extraction of -19.8 per cent, it said. The food and beverages group, which contributes 29.8 per cent to the CPI, rose more slowly at 2.1 per cent in May 2025 versus the 2.3 per cent in April 2025. 'The subgroup of food-at-home did not record any changes in May 2025 versus April 2025, which increased 0.5 per cent,' it said. However, the food-away-from-home subgroup was up 4.4 per cent versus 4.3 per cent in the preceding month. Moreover, DOSM said a few groups recorded a higher increase compared to April 2025; restaurant and accommodation services, 3.0 per cent (April 2025: 2.9 per cent), health, 1.1 per cent (April 2025: 0.9 per cent) and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, 0.2 per cent (April 2025: 0.1 per cent). The information and communication and the clothing and footwear groups remained in negative territory, registering -5.2 per cent and - 0.2 per cent, respectively. Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said 342 out of 573 of the items, or 59.7 per cent, recorded price increases. Of the 342 items, 330 items (96.5 per cent) registered an increase of less than or equal to 10 per cent, while 12 items recorded increases of more than 10 per cent in May 2025. 'However, 180 items (31.4 per cent) showed a decline and 51 items remained unchanged, which, to a certain extent, offsets the inflation from increasing further,' he said. In line with global oil market price changes, diesel in May 2025 recorded a slower 12.4 per cent price increase compared with the 15 per cent in April 2025. The average price for diesel in Peninsular Malaysia was RM2.81 per litre against RM2.15 in May 2024 (April 2025: RM2.95), while the average price of diesel for Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan remained at RM2.15 per litre. Meanwhile, unleaded petrol RON97 remained at a negative range of 10.4 per cent versus -6.3 in April 2025. The average price of unleaded petrol RON97 in May 2025 was RM3.11 a litre against RM3.47 in May 2024 (April 2025: RM3.25). Mohd Uzir said 11 states recorded increases below the national inflation rate of 1.2 per cent, with Kelantan recording the lowest rise at 0.3 per cent in May 2025. Five states recorded increases above the national inflation level, namely Johor (1.8 per cent), Negeri Sembilan (1.6 per cent), Selangor (1.5 per cent), Melaka (1.5 per cent) and Kuala Lumpur (1.4 per cent).

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : The success of implementing the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) depends on proper coordination and preparedness of every government ministry or agency, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said they must move together as one team to meet future demands, Bernama reported. 'The 13MP was drafted following continuous discussions among ministries, central agencies and state governments over the past few months,' said Anwar, who chaired a special Cabinet meeting to review the framework and key initiatives of the 13MP today. He said the 13MP would shape the direction of the country's development for the next five years. It is scheduled to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat at the end of next month. During the meeting, Anwar gave space to all ministers and senior ministry officers to contribute ideas on implementing the plan. 'The 13MP is a continuation of the reforms driven by the Madani government over the past two years. 'It is based on our aspirations to restructure the economic framework, elevate the status, dignity and well-being of the people, and build a more just, sustainable and resilient nation,' he said.
