Family of Jaipur man abducted in Mali asks Union Government to expedite efforts to trace him
Suman Joshi, wife of Prakash Joshi, said he joined as general manager at Diamond Cement factory in Mali on June 5. She spoke to him last on June 30.
"He told me that he was not feeling well. I asked him to return home as soon as possible. After this conversation, his phone was not reachable. I thought there was some network issue but on July 2, my daughter got information about his abduction," she told PTI.
Mr. Joshi was abducted by armed assailants on July 1 morning from the factory premises. The factory officials telephoned his daughter Chitra Joshi the next day and informed about the incident.
"We are in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs. We demand that the Government of India intensify efforts to secure his safe release. We have no idea where he is and in what condition," Ms. Suman said.
She said the company officials opened his room on Saturday and found his passport and other belongings.
"Initially, they were saying that my husband is safe. But now they say that they have no idea about his whereabouts," she said. The family said it has no information about his location or what the terrorists demand.
They have also appealed to Union Minister and Jodhpur MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and other leaders from the State to intervene into the matter.
On July 2, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a press statement and said a group of armed assailants carried out a coordinated attack on the factory premises in Mali and forcibly took three Indian nationals as hostages.
It said that many military and government installations at multiple locations of western and central Mali were attacked by terrorists on July 1.
"The Embassy of India in Bamako is in close and constant communication with the relevant authorities of the Government of Mali, local law enforcement agencies, as well as the management of Diamond Cement Factory. The Mission is also in touch with family members of the abducted Indian nationals," the release had said.

Bhopal gas disaster convicts seek retrial citing flawed investigation
Bhopal: Appearing in the court of the Principal District Judge for two convicts in the Bhopal gas disaster criminal case, J Mukund and S P Chaudhary, senior counsel Anirban Roy on Tuesday presented a compilation of several cases in which the high courts and the Supreme Court of India allowed a retrial of a case under section 464 of the CrPC. All seven Indian officials of Union Carbide accused in the Bhopal gas disaster criminal case were sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment by the CJM court in 2010 and were released on bail from the court itself. They later appealed against the CJM court order in the sessions court in 2011, and the hearing in the case has continued since. Anirban Roy, who appeared for J Mukund and S P Chaudhary, maintained through the hearings that the investigation by the CBI in the gas disaster case was "malafide, malicious, motivated and fraudulent." He moved an application under section 468 of the CrPC seeking a retrial in the case, as the charges framed against the accused by the trial court were based on a botched-up CBI investigation. Following lengthy arguments over days during hearings of the case in support of his argument for a retrial, Roy on Tuesday presented a compilation of cases in the court in which various high courts and the Supreme Court allowed a retrial in cases under section 464 of the CrPC. The hearing in the case would continue on Wednesday.

2 held for creating fake Aadhaar, lens on terror links
Kolkata: The Bengal STF has arrested owners of a mobile shop on Birbhum for allegedly creating fake Aadhaar cards, using forged documents, in exchange for money. Sheikh Miraj and Abdul Quddus, alias Sheikh Munna, were rounded up from Sattor in Parui on Sunday. An STF officer said they were investigating their possible links with Bangladeshi terror agencies, given that two arrested JMB men—Saab Sheikh alias Saab Rabbi, also an Ansarullah Bangla Team terror cell member—frequented Sattor. "Miraj and Munna might have been helping the Pakistani spy network, with fake Aadhaars being used to get Indian SIMs," said the officer.
