recently visited the Women Power Line – 1090, urging more cities across the country to replicate its strong support system. She interacted with on-duty police personnel, explored the helpline's round-the-clock operations, and praised its success in aiding women facing abuse or violence.
'I was truly fascinated by the 1090 initiative,' Pilgaonkar said, noting how the call centre connects women directly to help. 'It was inspiring to see such a well-organised system and to learn each step of the process — from the moment a call is received to how cases are followed up.'

The Fan famed actress admired the dedication of the women officers handling challenging calls, emphasising that 'the initiative saw real success and made a meaningful difference in the lives of many women.'
She also acknowledged the demanding nature of the job, remarking, 'It's clear that this is a high-pressure role, and I fully recognise that balancing such work with personal and family responsibilities is no small feat.'
'For me, this visit was also a source of inspiration,' Pilgaonkar added. 'The 1090 helpline is a remarkable model, and I sincerely hope its success can motivate similar efforts in other cities across the country.'

Our system is technically robust but we are aiming to continually upgrade our systems to better serve women in need.
Shriya was very impressed with our work and congratulated everyone for the efforts they put in every day at the centre.'

‘UP 1090 women power line a national inspiration'
1 2 Lucknow: Actor Shriya Pilgaonkar on Thursday lauded Uttar Pradesh's 1090 Women Power Line, calling it a model of women's safety that should be replicated across India. During her visit to Women and Child Safety Organisation (WCSO) headquarters in Lucknow, Shriya praised the state's technology-driven, empathetic approach to handling crimes against women. Interacting with officials, she observed functioning of 1090 helpline, which receives over 8,000 calls daily. "It's remarkable how action is taken swiftly without the survivor even having to visit police station," she said. Shriya noted that helpline not only counsels victims but also provides psychological counselling to accused individuals to prevent repeat offences. Pilgaonkar, who plays a police officer in her upcoming crime series Chhal Kapat, said her visit aimed to promote awareness around women's safety. "Security doesn't come from fear alone—it comes from understanding, awareness, and technology," she said. She said safe society could be built only when citizens were informed and proactive. "When women speak up and society listens with empathy, real change happens," she added. WCSO ADG Padmaja Chauhan presented Shriya with awareness material and token of appreciation.

Denied aid, yet undeterred: Corporation school topper Shriya's journey to Ethiraj College admission
CHENNAI: From washing and filling soda bottles two years ago to someone who is getting ready to go to the prestigious Ethiraj College for Women, life has come a full circle for D Shriya, a student of a Greater Chennai Corporation school. Her journey – from being a school dropout in 2022 to securing second rank in Class 12 at the Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School in Saidapet with 565 marks out of 600 – is a quiet yet powerful story of resilience and determination. She was forced to discontinue her studies after completing Class 10 at a private school in the academic year 2021-22. Both she and her younger brother, Nikylesh, had pending school fees amounting to around Rs 80,000 that their father refused to pay. Her father, a government employee in the law and order department and the sole bread-winner, was allegedly addicted to alcohol, the family said. Having had enough, Shriya's mother D Sreedevi (42) moved out to a single-room rented house with Shriya and her brother to ensure their safety. Although they eventually managed to pay the pending fees and obtain transfer certificates from the private school, the children were forced to take a year-long break from school due to financial instability. Sreedevi took up a job at a specs company, earning Rs 13,000 per month. Meanwhile, Shriya began working at a soda company, washing and filling bottles for Rs 300 a day and an additional Rs 150 for night shifts.
