Exclusive: Hunar Hali Gandhi on her elaborate look as Queen Kaikeyi in Veer Hanuman; says ‘The styling wasn't just aesthetic, it was armour'
With her striking look, royal aura, and powerful expressions, Hunar has not only stepped into a character but fully transformed into a symbol of grace, pride, and power. In an exclusive chat with Times of India TV, the actress opened up about the experience of bringing Kaikeyi to life, starting with the moment she first saw herself in full costume.
'When I first saw myself as Kaikeyi — in that elaborate costume, the intricate jewellery, and the powerfully lined eyes — I didn't see myself anymore,' Hunar recalled.
'I saw a queen, a mother, a storm in stillness. It gave me goosebumps. I remember just standing there, quiet, because something inside me shifted. I knew I wasn't just playing Kaikeyi — I was about to become her.'
The transformation wasn't just physical. For Hunar, the styling became a bridge to Kaikeyi's layered inner world. 'Kaikeyi's styling wasn't just aesthetic — it was armour. The weight of the jewellery, the richness of the silks, the sharpness of the crown — all of it reminded me that she wasn't a gentle breeze, she was a calculated storm,' she said.
'Each layer I wore peeled away a part of me and layered in a part of her.'
To craft this majestic look, the makers invested deeply in research. 'The team studied ancient scriptures, paintings, and regional influences to ensure authenticity. From jewellery that hinted at royal dominance to hair styled for discipline and drama — they built a legacy, not just a look,' Hunar shared. 'You don't have to act royal, you feel royal.'
While every element contributed to the transformation, one detail stood out to Hunar the most. 'It was the eyes — the boldness, the upward strokes, that silent intensity,' she said. 'That gaze held pride, pain, power — and somewhere, poetry. I connected to that the most. It reminded me that strength doesn't always roar — sometimes it just looks back unapologetically.'
Of course, the grandeur comes with challenges. 'Kaikeyi's look is grand, and with that grandeur comes a certain weight,' she admitted. 'It demands extra care and balance during long shoots, but the crown itself feels like both a symbol and a shield — it keeps me rooted in Kaikeyi's strength and presence.'

Exclusive – Sonali Bendre on hosting Pati Patni Aur Panga: I'm having a great time, but it's stressful keeping up with Munawar Faruqui's quick wit
1 2 Sonali Bendre , who recently made her television comeback as the host of Pati Patni Aur Panga, is delighted to be part of the show. She's thoroughly enjoying anchoring the reality series, which features seven well-known couples from television, Bollywood, and the sports world. In an exclusive conversation with Times of India TV, Sonali spoke about co-hosting alongside Munawar Faruqui , her married life with Goldie Behl , and her experience working with the participating couples. Speaking about hosting the show with Munawar, Sonali said, "I'm really enjoying doing the show but I won't deny the fact that there is a lot of stress involved as well! Munawar is already familiar with this type of format, but for me, it's all new. He's so quick and sharp with his wit that I just wonder will I be able to keep up? This entire experience is more like a challenge rather than just another assignment. But you know what? I love challenges! So I am going all out. Fingers crossed not only will the audience enjoy the show, but I hope they enjoy me in this new role too." Sonali, who has been married to filmmaker Goldie Behl for the last 13 years, spoke about the 'panga' she faces in her married life, "No marriage is ever complete without little 'pangas.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Become Fluent in Any Language Talkpal AI Sign Up Undo Every relationship has them. Earlier, I used to get scared thinking 'Oh God, we're fighting!' But now I know there's something enjoyable about making up later. In fact, now I initiate the fights sometimes because even that's fun! These pangas don't always require a trigger outside; they just happen naturally between a husband and wife. It's part of the charm of the relationship. When both people can laugh about these things and find them sweet moments, it creates such a beautiful twist to the marriage. But yes, if things go on for too long, it's not healthy. In our show, you'll see that same lovey-dovey banter and sweet pandemonium among couples." The actress further revealed about the reason behind taking up the show, "I'm meeting the whole crew of this show for the first time, and I have to say that it's a breath of fresh air. The world, and this industry, are transforming at such a rapid rate. What intrigued me about this idea was its fundamental faith in the institution of marriage. That was the first thing I asked the creators: 'Do you really believe in marriage?' Because I do. I believe that when couples experience the ups and downs, having someone to stand by you every step of the way that feeling of companionship is priceless," she concluded.
