Revving Up Roadways: 54,000 KM State Roads Notified As National Highways Since 2014, Says Govt
The length of the National Highways (NH) network in India has expanded from 91,287 km in March, 2014 to 146,342 km at present, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday. The House was also informed that since April 2014 – the starting of the financial year 2014-15, a total of 54,004 km of state roads, including state highways and greenfield stretches, have been notified as NHs.
'Development and maintenance of NHs is a continuous process. Works on notified NHs are accordingly taken up based on the traffic density, connectivity requirement, condition of the road, inter-se priority and synergy with PM Gati Shakti NM," the Ministry said.
MP Chavda Vinod Lakhamsh and Rajesh Mishra had asked Union Minister Nitin Gadkari if any proposals are pending for sanctioning of new national highways. Gadkari said currently 1,240 NHs projects in about 29,400 km length costing Rs 7.8 lakh crore are under construction in the country.
Gadkari also said that at present, 206 under construction NHs projects – costing Rs 91,290 crore – are delayed in Rajasthan and north eastern states including Assam.
These projects are expected to be ready in a phased manner in 2025-26 and only few projects will be completed beyond 2026-27.
Pace of NH building drops below 30 km/day
Gadkari said that construction of NHs and the growth in NH construction in Kilometres/day during 2014-25 has been below 30 km/day in almost all the financial year, except three times – 2020-21 (37 km/day); 2023-24 (34 km/day); 2018-19 (30 km/day).
The peak of NH building in India was achieved in 2020–21 with 13,327 km built – 37 km/day. However, after that it dropped to about 28–29 km/day. The year 2023–24 was another exception, witnessing a recovery to 34 km/day, with the second-highest annual construction (12,349 km).
In 2014-15 only 4,410 km of national highway was constructed – 12 km/ day and in 2015-16 the number was 6,061 km (17 km/day).
During the last financial year, 2024-25, a total of 10,660 km of national highway was constructed – 29 km/day.

He assured that city and district unit chiefs will be consulted before candidates for various elections are chosen," Rajkot Congress chief Rajdeepsinh Jadeja said.

Petronet LNG records over 25% YoY decline in Q1 PAT
Petronet LNG has reported 25.5% drop in standalone net profit to Rs 850.58 crore on a 11.4% fall in net sales to Rs 11,879.86 crore in Q1 FY26 as compared with Q1 FY25. Total operating expenditure for Q1 FY26 was Rs 10,720.14 crore, down 9.6% YoY. Profit before tax for the first quarter was Rs 1,136.11 crore, down by 25.3% from Rs 1519.88 crore posted in the same period last year. During the current quarter ended 30 June 2025, Dahej terminal processed 207 TBTU of LNG as against 248 TBTU during the corresponding quarter ended 30 June, 2024. The overall LNG volume processed by the company in the current quarter was 220 TBTU, as against the LNG volume of 262 TBTU processed in the corresponding quarter last year. The company was able to achieve higher throughput over the previous quarter and robust financial results owing to stable LNG prices, better capacity utilization and efficiency in its operations, Petronet LNG said in a statement. The net worth of the company as on 30 June 2025 reached Rs 20,233 crore as against Rs 19,382 crore as on 31 March 2025, crossing the Rs 20,000 crore mark. Petronet LNG was formed to develop, design, construct, own, and operate liquefied natural gas (LNG) import and regasification terminals in India. The scrip slipped 1.76% to end at Rs 302.10 on the BSE on Friday.

Jain Irrigation net profit declines 8.5% to Rs 11.19 crore in Jun quarter
Jain Irrigation Systems on Saturday reported an 8.5 per cent fall in consolidated net profit to Rs 11.19 crore for the latest quarter ended June 2025. ADVERTISEMENT Its net profit stood at Rs 12.23 crore in the year-ago period. The total income rose to Rs 1,547.68 crore in the April-June period of 2025-26 from Rs 1,479.24 crore in the corresponding period of the preceding year, according to a regulatory filing. Jain Irrigation Systems Vice Chairman and Managing Director Anil Jain said, "In Q1 of FY26, the company experienced good demand for Micro Irrigation Systems, Tissue Culture, Exports and Solar Agri Pumps. We saw good growth in revenue and margins in Hi-Tech Agri division".Due to the early monsoon in May, he said the company saw an impact on demand for pipe."Margins for pipe business were also under pressure due to lack of demand," Jain said. ADVERTISEMENT He said the company's focus towards retail and exports has shown better results in terms of revenue growth and margins."With well-spread monsoon and the government's commitment to investment in infrastructure, we expect revival of demand for piping business in H2FY26," Jain said. ADVERTISEMENT In 2024-25, the Maharashtra-based Jain Irrigation Systems had posted a net profit of Rs 25.69 crore on a total income of Rs 5,793.24 crore.
