Sarawak Fire Dept: Six injured as car skids off road near Kampung Gua, Sri Aman
KUCHING, May 30 — Six individuals sustained injuries when the car they were travelling in skidded off the road near Kampung Gua along Jalan Serian-Sri Aman earlier today.
According to a statement from the Sarawak Operations Centre of the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (Bomba), the accident involved a Perodua Axia compact car.
The victims included a 15-year-old female teenager, three adult males aged 21, 32, and 60, and two adult females aged 30 and 56.
All victims only sustained minor injuries and were not trapped in the vehicle following the accident. They managed to exit the car unaided, without the use of any rescue equipment.
'Upon the rescue team's arrival at the scene, it was confirmed that a single-vehicle accident had occurred involving a compact vehicle (Perodua Axia),' the statement read.
JBPM further reported that three of the injured were transported to Hospital Sri Aman via Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS), while one adult male and one female were conveyed by Ministry of Health (KKM) ambulances.
The emergency call was received at 7.16am, and the operation was concluded at 7.50am.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) also responded to the incident. — The Borneo Post

Zahid demands Cabinet post returned to Umno after receiving Tengku Zafrul's resignation, eyes full seven-minister quota
SERIAN, May 31 — UMNO is seeking to retain its full allocation of seven ministerial positions in the Federal Cabinet following the resignation of Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz from the party, its president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said. Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, expressed confidence that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would consider reinstating the allocation in line with UMNO's role in the unity government. 'To me, what's more important is that UMNO remains represented by seven full ministers in the Cabinet. Although we are unsure whether Tengku Zafrul's appointment was on UMNO's ticket, we had assumed he represented the party. 'Now that he is no longer with UMNO, the number drops to six. So, it is only fair for UMNO to request that the seat be returned to us,' he told reporters after attending the Sarawak RISDA 2025 'Makmur' Smallholders programme and pre-Gawai celebration here today. Ahmad Zahid also confirmed that the party has received Tengku Zafrul's resignation letter, which was submitted to UMNO Executive Secretary Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan. 'Yesterday, when we checked, it had not been received. But this morning, we verified that the letter had been delivered to Mohd Sumali. We acknowledge his resignation and withdrawal of membership from UMNO,' he said. Tengku Zafrul, who is Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, had yesterday announced his resignation from UMNO, including from his posts as Supreme Council member and Kota Raja division chief. KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — Mano Maniam, the revered Malaysian actor, educator, and cultural advocate whose five-decade career left an indelible mark on the country's performing arts, died last night at the age of 79. Born in Ipoh in 1945, Mano's lifelong passion for the stage was sparked by the vibrant bangsawan and sandiwara roadshows he watched as a child. His discovery of Shakespeare during his school years at ACS Ipoh became a defining influence, leading him back to the same school as a teacher who inspired countless young minds. To many, Mano was best known for his warm portrayal of 'Uncle Chan' in the late-1990s and early 2000s television series Kopitiam, a role that endeared him to a broad audience and introduced him to a new generation of fans. Yet his artistic reach extended far beyond television. A commanding presence on stage and screen, Mano was equally at home performing Shakespearean leads and Beckett monologues as he was appearing in international productions like Anna and the King and Netflix's Marco Polo. His roles in notable Malaysian films such as Mat Gelap (1990), Kolumpo (2013) and Barbarian Invasion (2021) further showcased his versatility. Known for his deep, resonant voice and quiet intensity, Mano was more than a performer; he was a mentor and a cultural bridge across ethnic communities through his work in English and Tamil dramas. Even in his later years, Mano remained devoted to the arts. He continued to teach acting — most notably to senior citizens at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre — and lent his voice to narration projects, including the poetic Meniti Cakerawala: The Science & Romance of the Cosmos just last year.
