A seized BB pistol is seen in this image handed out by the Fort St. John RCMP.
Mounties in Fort St. John say they arrested a man who flashed a pistol at a member of the public, which was later found to be a BB gun.
In a news release, the RCMP said officers received a report of a man brandishing a gun while walking in the area of 87 Street and 99 Avenue just before 10 p.m. Thursday.
Police said they arrested an intoxicated man matching the suspect description on the grounds of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. They seized the pistol, which was not a firearm but a BB gun.
'Because the Fort St. John RCMP take firearms calls very seriously, calls of this nature will always draw a significant police response,' said Const. Chad Neustaeter, in the release. 'Thank you to the public who saw something they knew wasn't right and reported it to police in the interest of public safety.'
The man was taken to the police station and released with conditions and a promise to appear in court on November 24.
