The four-time MVP is no stranger to the Steelers, the team he defeated for his lone Super Bowl victory when the Packers won Super Bowl XLV.

Ex-Aaron Rodgers Teammate Allen Lazard Gets Cold Feet About Joining Steelers

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. After a game of cat and mouse that lasted two-and-a-half months, the Pittsburgh Steelers finally got their guy. The team announced on Thursday evening that it had signed four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a one-year deal, bringing an end to one of the lengthiest and most drama-filled storylines of the NFL offseason. But now that the Steelers have addressed their biggest area of need, another one requires their attention — the glaring hole at wide receiver opened up after the team traded George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys last month for third- and sixth-round picks. Several names have been floated as possible Pickens replacements over the last few weeks, but one that's been thrown out more than any other is current New York Jets receiver Allen Lazard, who's spent all seven seasons of his NFL career as Rodgers' teammate. And while it's easy to connect the dots on a potential Rodgers-Lazard reunion, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio recently revealed that Lazard may actually have some reservations about continuing to be tied at the hip to the 10-time Pro Bowl QB. "Per a source with knowledge of Lazard's thinking, he sees a very real potential benefit to proving his ability to function at an acceptable level without Rodgers as his quarterback," Florio reported. "That doesn't mean Lazard would reject the opportunity to play with Rodgers again. But it's not an automatic, knee-jerk, no-brainer. Lazard, at the end of the day, may prefer to make his own path." More PhotoThere's no question, Lazard is an effective weapon when paired with Rodgers. His two best seasons—2021 (40 catches, 513 yards, eight touchdowns) and 2022 (60 catches, 788 yards, six touchdowns)—were with a healthy, pre-Achilles injury Rodgers throwing him the ball. In fact, the one season Rodgers was injured and Lazard was catching passes from someone else, he had the worst season of his career (23 receptions, 311 yards, one TD). "Lazard has a well-earned reputation of being two different players. With Rodgers, good. Without Rodgers, not," Florio continued. "... He has a much better chance of [continuing his career] if he can take advantage of his opportunity with the Jets to prove that he can thrive without Rodgers as his quarterback." If Lazard is, in fact, a no-go for the Steelers, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport believes the team will be aggressive in its pursuit of landing Rodgers another offensive weapon. "I do expect the Pittsburgh Steelers to continue to search for one more weapon," Rapoport said on Friday. "... Jonnu Smith — there was a phone call there. Kyle Pitts — there was a phone call there. The Steelers are in the market for at least one more playmaker." For more NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

The Aaron Rodgers effect? Here's the latest NFL power rankings based on Super Bowl odds

The Aaron Rodgers effect? Here's the latest NFL power rankings based on Super Bowl odds Aaron Rodgers is headed to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Meh? Horray? Look out for AFC North, the entire AFC, and the entire league? The news has certainly shifted a significant focus toward Steel City, where Rodgers will most likely become the franchise's 10th starting quarterback in the past decade. Alongside the Super Bowl-winning slinger, Rodgers will have a new target in wideout DK Metcalf and a new head coach who has yet to endure a losing season. How the addition actually reshapes the NFL hierarchy remains to be seen, though, and the oddsmakers seem to view this as nothing more than … a nice pickup. Two-Time Super Bowl Champion Reveals Why He Joined Raiders

Two-Time Super Bowl Champion Reveals Why He Joined Raiders originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Las Vegas Raiders made several major changes during the 2025 NFL offseason. This was because the team brought in new leadership in the form of general manager John Spytek and head coach Pete Carroll. Advertisement While the move to hire these two was praised around the league, several of the decisions that Spytek and Carroll made during free agency were met with skepticism from Raider Nation. Perhaps the most scrutinized choice was letting linebackers Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo find new homes and replacing them with cheap veterans like Elandon Roberts and Devin White. Both signed one-year deals with little-to-no guaranteed money. New Las Vegas Raiders LB Elandon Roberts (50).Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images Roberts is a nine-year NFL veteran who won two Super Bowls with the New England Patriots in the the mid-2010s. He racked up 206 tackles and 4.0 sacks during his four-year stint with the Patriots before making stops with the Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers. Advertisement After two years with the Steelers, Roberts opted to join Las Vegas on a $3 million deal in March. On Tuesday, he was a guest on an episode of "The Rush With Maxx Crosby" and spoke about his decision to join the Raiders this offseason. "When I got that phone call to come to the Raiders and knowing what's being built, I was just like 'Yeah, no lie … I'm back feeling young,' Roberts said. 'Even in free agency, that's literally why I came to Vegas. Yeah I want to win a Super Bowl." Roberts has 13 playoff games under his belt and has 53 postseason tackles to his name. This kind of winning pedigree and experience will be pivotal to a Raiders team that is trying to find their footing in a brutal AFC conference. Advertisement All told, Roberts has over 600 career tackles in the NFL, 54 of which were for a loss. He has also tacked on 14.5 sacks, 12 passes defended, five forced fumbles and an 85-yard interception returned for a touchdown, which, coincidentally, came against Las Vegas in 2021. Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham will, once again, have to teach a new linebacker how to operate in his defense. However, based on Roberts' NFL success and Graham's track record of getting the most out of his players, this should be a great pairing for the Silver and Black during the 2025 season.
