DLF, Lodha, Adani retain top 3 positions in real estate ‘rich list'
While the real estate wealth of DLF's Rajiv Singh is ₹1.27 lakh crore and that of Mangal Prabhat Lodha and the Lodha Developers family is pegged at ₹92,340 crore, Gautam Adani and the Adani Realty family have real estate wealth of ₹52,320 crore. The reason behind Adani's wealth erosion is said to be a shift in metrics by Hurun India in ascertaining value and wealth, despite the company adding realty projects to its portfolio.
'In contrast to last year's surge, this year has been modest for Indian real estate, with 51% of the companies on the list of 150 seeing their value increase, compared to 86% last year,' said Anas Rahman Junaid, founder and chief researcher, Hurun India. This was owing to geopolitical tensions combined with fears of rising input costs from global tariff disruptions. 'Now, with the latest announcement of 25% tariff plus penalty levied, it's a wait-and-watch situation,' he added.
The fourth in the Grohe-Hurun list is Vikas Oberoi of Oberoi Realty, with real-estate wealth of ₹46,950 crore, and in the fifth place is Basant Bansal and the family of M3M India, with wealth of ₹37,390 crore. 'Seventy percent of the companies mentioned in the list have a presence in Tier 1 cities and 85 companies have a presence beyond their home states,' said Junaid.
Four companies in the list are led by women, namely Pavitra Shankar of Brigade Enterprises ( ₹27,200 crore), Priya Paul of Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels ( ₹3,600 crore), Jyotsna Suri of The Lalit ( ₹3,000 crore) and Meenakshi Ramji of Sowparnika ( ₹2,800 crore).
Interestingly, hospitality player Oyo led by Ritesh Agarwal has made a debut in the rich list by entering directly into the top 15 with a valuation of ₹32,500 crore.
Among the top gainers are Raja Bagmane of Bagmane Developers, who emerged with the highest percentage of 29% growth, followed by Atul Ashokkumar Ruia of Phoenix Mills and Vikas Oberoi of Oberoi Realty, both of whom posted healthy gains of 10% and 5%, which helped solidify their positions among the upper ranks.
DLF leads with 349 million sq ft developed, followed by Godrej Properties, which ranks second with 223 million sq ft. Prestige Estates Projects is third with 180 million sq ft developed, Sobha is fourth with 136 million sq ft, B L Kashyap & Sons ranks fifth with 125 million sq ft and Lodha Developers is sixth with 100 million sq ft.

Tamil Nadu, India (NewsVoir) VinFast today officially inaugurated its electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, India. This milestone marks a major step in VinFast's global expansion, reinforcing the company's long-term commitment to the world's third-largest automobile market and underscoring VinFast's confidence in India's strategic role in the future of the global EV industry. VinFast Tamil Nadu is the company's third operational plant and the fifth project in its global manufacturing network. As the first VinFast facility inaugurated outside Vietnam, it demonstrates both the brand's global vision and its capacity to deliver large-scale projects. With a total area of 400 acres, the plant is equipped with state-of-the-art production lines meeting world-class standards, featuring advanced automation and cutting-edge technologies. The complex houses multiple workshops, including Body Shop, Paint Shop, Assembly Shop, Quality Control Center, and a Logistics Hub. It also includes an auxiliary cluster for local contractors, which is expected to expand in the coming years. At full capacity, the plant will create 3,000-3,500 direct jobs for local workers, along with thousands of indirect jobs in the supply chain ecosystem. This will help boost socio-economic development in Tamil Nadu, positioning the state as a manufacturing hub for India and a potential EV capital of South Asia in the near future. In its initial phase, VinFast Tamil Nadu will focus on assembling two premium electric SUV models: the VF 7 and VF 6. The plant's starting capacity is 50,000 vehicles per year, scalable up to 150,000 units annually to meet rising market demand. With the launch of the Tamil Nadu plant, VinFast moves closer to its 2025 sales target of 200,000 vehicles and its long-term production goal of 1 million vehicles per year by 2030. This milestone reaffirms VinFast's commitment to promoting sustainable mobility and advancing a greener future in India and worldwide. Speaking on the inauguration, Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, stated, 'The VinFast Tamil Nadu plant marks a strategic milestone in our long-term commitment to the Indian market. It establishes a strong foundation for sustainable growth and positions us to offer high-quality, competitively priced electric vehicles to Indian consumers. Looking ahead, the facility will expand its production capacity to meet rising demand. We aim to develop it into VinFast's largest export hub for South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. In fact, we've already secured initial orders from several countries across these regions. In close collaboration with the Tamil Nadu government, VinFast is working to transform the area into the 'EV capital of South Asia'—supporting both the dynamic domestic market and our broader regional ambitions.' VinFast Tamil Nadu not only strengthens the company's global production capability but also contributes significantly to India's green industrial development. The plant will prioritize collaboration with domestic suppliers, promoting supply chain localization, technology transfer, and workforce upskilling. Since entering India, VinFast has actively pursued a comprehensive EV ecosystem model covering assembly, distribution, after-sales services, and recycling, with the 400-acres Tamil Nadu plant being a strategic piece in this value chain. In parallel, VinFast has partnered with multiple dealer groups in key cities and teamed up with RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure to build a robust digital services and after-sales support network. VinFast has also joined forces with BatX Energies to enable battery recovery and reuse, advancing circular production and sustainable development in the world's third-largest automobile market. About VinFast VinFast (NASDAQ: VFS), a subsidiary of Vingroup JSC, one of Vietnam's largest conglomerates, is a pure-play electric vehicle ('EV') manufacturer with the mission of making EVs accessible to everyone. Indian services sector growth hits 11-month high in July on sharp rise in exports, overall sales
The Indian services sector growth touched an 11 month high in July, supported by a pickup in new exports orders and sharp rise in overall sales, a monthly survey said on Tuesday. The seasonally adjusted HSBC India Services PMI Business Activity Index was at 60.5 in July, little-changed from 60.4 in June, and the rate of expansion was the best seen since August 2024. In the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) parlance, a print above 50 means expansion, while a score below 50 denotes contraction. "At 60.5, the services PMI indicated a strong growth momentum, led by a pick-up in new export orders," said Pranjul Bhandari, Chief India Economist at HSBC. Sustained increases in new business intakes were the main aspect behind output growth, the survey said, adding that Indian service providers also welcomed a stronger improvement in international demand for their services. "They reportedly secured new work from Asia, Canada, Europe, the UAE and the US," it said. Going ahead, service providers were on average optimistic about their expectations for output in the year ahead. Among the factors supporting business confidence were efficiency gains, marketing, tech innovation and a growing online presence, they said. On the price front, input costs and output charges rose at faster rates than in June. "The solid rise in output prices reflected greater cost burdens and demand strength," the survey said. "On the price front, both input and output prices rose a tad faster than in June but this could change going forward as indicated by the recent CPI and WPI prints," Bhandari said. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) based retail inflation has remained below 4 per cent since February. It was at 2.1 per cent in June. The wholesale price inflation (WPI) turned negative after a gap of 19 months, declining 0.13 per cent in June. Meanwhile, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra-headed rate-setting panel on Monday started the three-day deliberations to decide the next bi-monthly monetary policy amid expectations of a pause in the rate easing cycle. Governor Malhotra-headed six-member rate-setting panel -- the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) -- is scheduled to announce the next bi-monthly policy rate on Wednesday (August 6). Experts were of the opinion that the Reserve Bank may go in for a status quo this time and wait for more macro data after the announcement by the US to impose a 25 per cent tariff on Indian imports beginning August 7. On the jobs front, Although the upturn added pressure on firms' capacity, hiring moderated. July's increase in employment was the slowest in 15 months. "The rate of job creation was only slight, broadly converging to its long-run average. Fewer than 2 per cent of companies took on additional staff, with the vast majority indicating no change from June," the survey said. Meanwhile, the HSBC India Composite PMI Output Index was up fractionally from 61.0 in June to 61.1 in July, indicating a sharp rate of expansion that was the quickest since April 2024. Composite PMI indices are weighted averages of comparable manufacturing and services PMI indices. Weights reflect the relative size of the manufacturing and service sectors, according to official GDP data. The PMI results for July revealed mixed signs regarding the performance of the Indian private sector. "New orders and output expanded at quicker rates, while job creation receded and business optimism faded. Meanwhile, inflationary pressures gathered pace," the survey said. The HSBC India Services PMI is compiled by S&P Global from responses to questionnaires sent to a panel of around 400 service sector companies.

VinFast drives into India with a new factory inaugurated in Tamil Nadu
Vietnam's VinFast, one of the more ambitious names in the global electric vehicle space, has officially entered India with the inauguration of its first EV assembly plant outside Vietnam. The new facility, located in Thoothukudi , Tamil Nadu, was inaugurated today in the presence of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin. Set on a 400-acre parcel within the SIPCOT Industrial Park, the plant marks a significant step in the company's plans for South Asia and beyond. India, the world's third-largest automotive market, has attracted growing interest from global EV players, and VinFast's investment of USD 500 million reflects both confidence in the market and a strategic long-term vision. The Tamil Nadu plant is the brand's third operational facility and its fifth global manufacturing project. Built for scale What makes this particular facility stand out is the speed at which it has been brought online. From the groundbreaking ceremony to the start of operations, the entire project was completed in just 15 months — a noteworthy achievement for a project of this scale, and one that underscores the intent behind VinFast's India plans. The plant will begin operations by assembling the VF 6 and VF 7 electric SUVs, with an initial annual production capacity of 50,000 units. The site, however, has been built with the ability to scale up to 150,000 units per year as demand grows. The integrated complex includes body, paint, and assembly shops, a quality control centre, and a logistics hub. There is also an auxiliary cluster that will support local suppliers and service providers, which is expected to expand in parallel with production. With a projected 3,000 to 3,500 direct jobs, and thousands more in indirect employment, the new plant is also expected to give a strong economic push to the southern region. The broader ambition is to position Tamil Nadu as a key hub for EV manufacturing—not just for India, but for export markets across South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. VF 6 and VF 7: First Products for India At the heart of VinFast's India entry are the VF 6 and VF 7 — two electric SUVs aimed at the growing urban EV segment. The VF 6 is a compact five-seater SUV designed for city use, with global trims offering either 174 hp or 201 hp and a range that crosses the 300 km mark, depending on the variant. The cabin is modern and minimal, with a focus on intuitive tech and connected features. The VF 7, meanwhile, is a midsize SUV with more road presence and higher performance credentials. The top-spec variant comes with dual motors pushing out 348 hp and an all-wheel-drive layout. On the global WLTP cycle, it promises up to 450 km on a single charge. Both vehicles are expected to offer a strong feature set including advanced driver assistance systems and large-format touchscreens. For the Indian market, official specs and prices are yet to be confirmed, though announcements are expected by the end of August or early September. The launch is timed to coincide with the festive season. Setting up the infrastructure VinFast is not just setting up shop to build cars — it is laying the groundwork for a full-fledged EV ecosystem in India. The company has tied up with several dealer groups across key cities and is working with RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure to create a robust after-sales and service infrastructure. In parallel, it has joined hands with BatX Energies for battery recovery and reuse, pointing toward a larger sustainability roadmap in line with global circular economy goals. Crucially, the company has made it clear that localisation is a priority. By working with domestic suppliers and investing in skill development, VinFast is aligning its goals with India's push toward becoming a global EV manufacturing and export base. The right moves VinFast's entry into India arrives at a time when the country is beginning to warm up to electric mobility in earnest. With competition intensifying in the sub-Rs 30 lakh EV segment, VinFast will need to strike the right balance between price, features, and ownership experience. That said, the groundwork appears solid. A fully operational plant, an expanding dealer network, a clear export roadmap, and products already selling in international markets give VinFast more than just a foot in the door. They give the company a real shot at making a dent in one of the most dynamic automotive markets in the world. Motorscribes, in association with The Hindu, brings you the latest in cars and bikes.
