'Creepiest horror trailer in years' leaves fans struggling to sleep

The trailer for Weapons, a new horror from Barbarian writer-director Zack Cregger, has been released – and fans have been left unable to sleep after watching the intense preview.
Starring Julia Garner and Josh Brolin, the trailer for Weapons introduces the audience to a simple premise that focuses on a teacher, Miss Gandy (Garner), walking into her classroom one morning to find all 17 students have disappeared in the night.
A child's creepy narration explains that the plot thickens as the teacher quickly becomes a person of interest in her class's disappearance, and CCTV shows that all of the children ran from their homes at 2.17am.
The intense trailer then shows graphic, increasingly horrifying imagery, including a creepy child sitting up from a desk in a darkened classroom, a view of a man being smacked into by a car, hands covering a man's face furiously holding him down, and black oil being poured onto someone's face.
The movie then ends with the door of a house opening by itself as a child says quietly: 'This is where the story really starts.'
Fans were left shell-shocked after the creepy nature of the film, with many taking to social media to say they were left unable to sleep.
'I don't like scary movies and I watched that WEAPONS trailer late last night and I swear to god it was so scary I couldn't even sleep,' said tiatamiaa on X.
'WEAPONS might be the scariest film of the year. What the f**k is that trailer??? lol,' said JakeRileyHunte.
'Man Weapons just *looks* crazy f****n' good,' said eventualforever.
'I watched the trailer for Weapons last night and thought it was so so scary,' said violetfaced.
'These kids are not alright. #Weapons looks messed up [positive].' added Lulamaybelle.
'I had full body chills the last 30 seconds of that trailer, incredible stuff,' said sillierdeadite.
The film has had some fantastically frightening marketing attached, with Warner Bros releasing a two-hour-long video that showed children running with their arms out into the woods.
The video appeared to be taken from CCTV footage and was left untitled and unexplained on the YouTube channel of the entertainment company.
The creepy footage actually sparked some concern from viewers who stumbled across the video, unaware of what they were seeing, and baffled about what the footage was showing.
Fans have also spotted some hidden Easter eggs in the footage, highlighting that an image of a baseball team can be seen around a minute and a half into the video – but only for a split second – which may be a key clue about the events in the film, or could be a red herring.
Zach Cregger was the mind behind Barbarian, a horror which was met with huge critical acclaim, which he also wrote and directed. More Trending
He was also a producer on the recent popular horror film Companion starring Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher, which was also met with huge accolades.
Given his strong track record, fans are dead-set that Weapons is set to be another blinding success, which will traumatise viewers for years to come – but in a good way, of course.
Weapons is set to be released in cinemas on August 8.

Coronation Street confirms huge Lisa shock as Betsy star reacts
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video There's a tough week ahead for Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) in Coronation Street next week, as she faces Craig Tinker's memorial service – but there's more trouble on the cards. As she and Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) admit how difficult the event will be, with Kit revealing that the family have asked him to make a speech, Carla Connor (Alison King) confides in Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) that she's worried about Lisa. In a bid to help Lisa take her mind off things, Carla comes up with a plan. As the day of Craig's memorial service arrives, Lisa apologises to Carla, before setting about distracting herself by going through some old files. However, when Betsy comes snooping and tries to take a peek at one of the files, Lisa snatches it from her, leaving the curious teen intrigued. Desperate to know what her mum was so keen to hide, Betsy confronts Lisa, who is quick to lie. She tells Betsy that the file contains information about Betsy's paternity, and that she can't see it until she turns 18. When Lisa arrives at the memorial service and notices Kit's absence, she is worried, but soon steps up in his place to deliver a moving speech for Craig. Meanwhile, Betsy clearly wants to know more about her mysterious findings, as Carla later returns home and catches her going through Lisa's files – but what exactly has she dug up? When Betsy shows a picture of the letter she's found to Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), she reveals that she intends to get to the bottom of it… When we caught up with actresses Cait and Sydney at the British Soap Awards, Cait shared her reaction to the twists in this story, saying: 'I was tired reading it!' 'There is a lot of drama coming up!' Sydney agreed, continuing: 'I'm intrigued for people to see it!' When Lisa asks Betsy to join her for lunch the next day, Betsy makes out that she's meeting Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne), who has recently been released from the STC. However, that proves to be a lie when she and Lauren enter the prison visiting room. As Betsy admits that she's a nervous wreck, is she set to make a deal with the devil? Meanwhile, Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) drops her right in it when he lets slip to Lisa and Carla that Betsy ordered a cab to Highfield Prison. How will they react? As dramatic as this story is set to be, both Sydney Martin and Vicky Myers promised moments of light. 'I don't know how much we can say but there's some exciting stuff coming up,' Sydney promised. 'There's also some really sweet, important scenes in there. I can't go into detail, but I'm glad that they're airing.' More Trending Later in the evening, Vicky told us that 'there is a lot' still to come. 'There is a lot coming, but there's also periods of time that they're really happy, and there's periods of time when it's not going so well, but that's indicative of any relationship, isn't it? And any family life. View More » 'And living together in the small flat… Let's see how they navigate all of that!' Downton Abbey fans 'can't stop crying' as franchise nears end after 15 years
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Downton Abbey viewers are already emotionally devastated watching the first trailer for the franchise's last goodbye after a three-year wait. The long-running ITV period drama created by Julian Fellowes first captivated fans in 2010 with the highs and lows of the Crawley family as they navigated war, love, loss and a transformation of the class system in early-20th-century England. After finishing its initial six-season run in 2015, the widely-loved franchise returned for a cinematic trilogy with main cast members such as Mary (Michelle Dockery), Edith (Laura Carmichael), Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville), Anna Bates (Joanne Froggatt) and Mr Carson (Jim Carter) all reprising their roles. All good things must come to an end, however. After the huge success of the second feature movie, A New Era, in 2022 (which saw the death of the late Maggie Smith's character, the Dowager) now the third and final film is set to come out in September. The first teaser trailer for The Grand Finale, which came out earlier today, is running with the tagline: 'The place we'll always remember. The family we'll never forget. Everything has led to this.' If that wasn't enough to tug at your heartstrings, then seeing the gang back together as they conquer a new decade – the 1930s – and seemingly say goodbye to their home will definitely be enough to make longtime fans go misty-eyed. Especially as the trailer closes out with Robert poignantly placing his hand on the building to kiss it farewell. 'The end of it with Robert kissing his hand and placing it on the house with the family and servants outside really really gets to me,' haydendixon7189 wrote on YouTube. 'The trailer didn't reveal much but at the same time revealed everything. I'm so emotional and can't wait for September,' jdivine7445 added. 'Never has a trailer made me all teary before. And I realise with a sharp pang that I'll miss the Dowager so terribly, which will only make me miss Maggie Smith, too,' RidingAGrizzly shared. 'I can't stop my crying,' mohitkotak2473 added. 'I cried like never before watching this trailer… So much chills! This is the most painful farewell I give to a TV series. Thank you for all these years,' monsieurtoc said. Ove ron X user mx_aman wrote: 'My heart can't handle this.' 'If you see me bawling my eyes out about some rich British aristocrats having to sell their enormous house well, please respect my privacy in these trying times,' fawvarl emotionally quipped. 'Downton Abbey has been a big part of my life over the last 15 years. Can't believe it's really coming to a close,' AnnaLibri lamented. There's not been much disclosed about the ins and outs of the plot for the third movie although Mary's husband Henry Talbot (played by Matthew Goode) shall be absent, after a reduced role in the last movie. 'Wouldn't it be more exciting if [Lady Mary] didn't need a man so she might end up on her own? Some people look up to her as a modern feminist or a pillar of modern feminism,' the Dept Q star told Metro about his decision to not return. Meanwhile, in January, Michelle gently reflected on what to expect from the next movie, and its homage to Smith, to Collider. More Trending 'It's a beautiful film. For us, it was such a treat to be able to come back together again. It's a real tribute to Maggie Smith, the film.' Paul Giamatti will also be reprising his 2013 character in the final movie as Lady Cora's uncle Harold Levinson. 'Working with Paul again was wonderful. He's so much fun. And because he was already part of the family, it was lovely to have him back on set, so I'm really excited to see the final film,' Michelle added at the time. Downton Abbey seasons one to six are available to stream on Netflix. Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale comes out in cinemas on Got a story? Love Island fans slam lack of tribute to Caroline Flack in 10-year special
Love Island fans have expressed their disappointment after the show's 10-year special episode didn't include a dedicated a Caroline Flack tribute. The summer dating show started 10 years ago this week and became one of the defining reality series of the 2010s, attracting audiences of almost six million at its peak. Originally hosted by TV star Flack, Love Island made stars of Molly-Mae Hague, Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, Maura Higgins, Wes Nelson, and Amber Gill, among others. Flack proved a hugely popular presenter with viewers, with Love Island's 2015 revival seeing its viewing figures almost double after 10 years off the air. In 2020, Flack took her own life at the age of 40, with the Love Island host found dead at her home a month after experiencing personal issues away from the show. Laura Whitmore replaced Flack as host for the 2020 series and the show continued to pull in high audiences on ITV2 – the 12th edition of Love Island begins on June 9. Before the series returns this year, ITV broadcast a 10-year anniversary special episode on Sunday night, celebrating the successful history of the long-running reality show. Amid the celebrations, several fans expressed their disappointment that tributes weren't paid to Flack and late Love Island stars Mike Thalassitis and Sophie Gradon. Thalassitis took his own life in 2019 at the age of 26, and Gradon died by suicide in 2018 aged 32. However, some viewers acknowledged how happy it made them to see old footage of Flack presenting the show featured on the programme. @MisTintehotbabe said: 'At the end of the day, without Caroline there would be no Love Island. They could have done a slideshow or something to acknowledge her but they didn't.' The discontented viewer continued: 'They could have paid tribute to Mike and Sophie [too] – I'm so disappointed, it's as if none of them even existed.' @TheCommentariat added: 'I don't like that they didn't do a mini-tribute to Caroline Flack, she was basically responsible for the show coming back.' @RebeccaMaria said she expected something different: 'Did anyone else think there would be like an in memoriam thing at the end for Caroline Flack? Kind of weird there wasn't?' While some fans were disappointed at the lack of Flack, the 10-year special did feature brief appearances from her, Thalassitis, and Gradon. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Viewers were moved by the clip, which showed Flack hugging former contestant Molly-Mae Hague, with @EmilyAmy saying: 'Aw, Caroline. She was Love Island. She genuinely cared about everyone.' @TVReality93 said they 'loved' seeing Flack on screen, while @TwellyWatcher confessed that the hardest part of watching the special was seeing how happy Flack was in her brief highlight. More Trending The clip wasn't enough for some people watching at home, with @ConnieSpanners asking for more: '10 years of Love Island and no sign of Caroline Flack.' Flack quit Love Island shortly before her death after being charged by police with assault, saying at the time: 'In order not to detract attention from the upcoming series I feel the best thing I can do is to stand down for series 6.' She added that there had been a 'significant number of media reports and allegations in regards to my personal life' but that she had 'never experienced such kindness and love in my whole life'.
