NEW DELHI: Former Chhattisgarh chief minister
Bhupesh Baghel
intensified his attack on the
Adani Group
, alleging that
Enforcement Directorate
's arrest of his son, Chaitanya, was a deliberate move to silence those who speak out against the conglomerate.
"I got the permission to meet my son for 30 minutes. There is no case against him... This is an effort to suppress any voice raised against Adani. If anyone raises their voice against Adani Group, then they will also be treated like Bhupesh Baghel's son," Baghel said.

The former CM had earlier alleged the Adani Group was flouting environmental and legal norms in its coal mining operations in Tamnar, Chhattisgarh. He claimed that despite a unanimous resolution passed by the state assembly, the company continued large-scale tree felling without adhering to the PESA Act or complying with the National Green Tribunal's directives.
'The adjournment motion moved by Congress in the Chhattisgarh assembly over tree felling being carried out by Adani Group in Tamnar was disallowed by Speaker Raman Singh. The opposition alleged that there has been no adherence to the PESA Act, no compliance with directives issued by the National Green Tribunal, and even the resolution unanimously passed by the state assembly has been disregarded. Not even a discussion was permitted,' he had said.

Following his son's arrest, Baghel had claimed that the aforementioned issue was to be raised in the assembly on Friday. "ED has arrived. Today is the last day of the Assembly session. The issue of trees being cut in Tamnar for Adani was supposed to be raised today. 'Saheb' has sent the ED to the Bhilai residence," his office said in a post on X.
Moreover, ED informed a special court that Chaitanya laundered Rs 16.7 crore through shell companies and undervalued real estate transactions linked to a Rs 2,100 crore liquor scam.
Arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) on July 18, his 38th birthday, Chaitanya was remanded to five days of ED custody by a Raipur court.
In response, the Congress has announced a statewide 'Aarthik Nakabandi' (economic blockade) on July 22, planning road blockades, protests, and disruption of mineral transport to coincide with the end of his custody and his next court appearance.

Betting apps case: Rana Daggubati seeks alternate date to appear before ED

Hyderabad: Actor Rana Daggubati has sought an alternate date to appear before the Enforcement Directorate in the case relating to alleged promotion of illegal betting apps. The Tollywood actor was issued notice to appear on Wednesday (July 23), but he communicated to the Central agency that he would not be able to appear as he was busy with a film shoot. The actor is reported to be busy with the film shoot in Tamil Nadu. The central agency is likely to issue a fresh notice to the actor with an alternate date for his appearance. The ED has summoned actors Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Vijay Deverakonda, and Manchu Lakshmi in the case. Prakash Raj has been summoned on July 30. The ED has asked Vijaya Deverakonda to appear on August 6 while Manchu Lakshmi has been directed to appear on August 13. The four actors were among 29 celebrities booked by the ED on July 10 for allegedly endorsing illegal betting apps. The central agency filed an ECIR against 29 actors, influencers, and YouTubers for allegedly promoting illegal betting platforms, in violation of the Public Gambling Act, 1867. The probe, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, is based on five FIRs filed in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Film actors Vijay Deverakonda, Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Nidhi Agarwal, Pranitha Subhash and Manchu Lakshmi, and Ananya Nagella are among those who have been booked by the ED. The names of TV actors, TV hosts and social media influencers like Sreemukhi, Shyamala, Varshini Sounderajan. Vasanthi Krishnan, Shoba Shetty, Amrutha Chowdary, Nayani Pavani, Neha Pathan, Pandu, Padhmavathi, Harsha Sai and Bayya Sunny Yadav also figure in the list. Most of these celebrities were earlier booked by Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police. FIRs were registered against them at Panjagutta, Miyapur, Cyberabad, Suryapet, and Visakhapatnam police stations. The ED suspects endorsements of platforms like Junglee Rummy, A23, JeetWin, Parimatch, Lotus365, and others involved laundering of large sums through paid promotions. When some of the actors were booked by Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police, they denied wrongdoing, claiming they ended contracts over ethical concerns. In March this year, Vijay Deverakonda, Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj and others were booked by Cyberabad Police for allegedly promoting betting apps. They, however, clarified that they are not promoting any illegal app. While Rana Daggubati and Vijay Devarakonda stated that they endorsed only legally permitted online skill-based games, Prakash Raj said he did not renew a contract to promote an app in 2017 after realising that he should not have done it.

Bad news for Flipkart, ED files complaint against Myntra in Rs 16540000000 alleged violations of…

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a complaint under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999, against Myntra Designs Private Limited, its associated entities, and directors over alleged violations totaling Rs 1,654.35 crore, the agency announced on Wednesday. The action was initiated by ED's Bengaluru Zonal Office following credible information that Myntra Designs Private Limited (Myntra) and its related companies are doing Multi Brand Retail Trade (MBRT) in the guise of 'Wholesale Cash & Carry', allegedly in violation of the extant FDI Policy. ED's Investigation Against Myntra ED said its investigation under the provisions of FEMA, 1999 revealed that 'Myntra Designs Pvt Ltd had declared that they were engaged in the business of 'wholesale cash & carry' and invited and received FDI from foreign investors equivalent to Rs 1654,35,08,981 and that they sold majority of their goods to Vector E-Commerce Pvt Ltd (who sold the goods in retail to the ultimate customer).' 'That Vector E-Commerce Pvt Ltd and Myntra Designs Pvt Ltd are related parties and belong to the same group or group of companies,' said the agency. It further said that Vector E-Commerce Pvt Ltd was created and continued to be used as a corporate entity to bifurcate the B2C (business to customer i.e. Myntra Designs Pvt Ltd to retail customers) transaction into B2B (Myntra Designs Pvt Ltd to Vector E-Commerce Pvt Ltd) and then B2C (Vector E-Commerce Pvt Ltd to retail customers). ED investigation also revealed that Myntra Designs Pvt Ltd was actually carrying out multi-brand retail trading in the guise of 'wholesale cash & carry'. 'Even otherwise, Myntra Designs Pvt Ltd have not satisfied the condition laid down for 'wholesale cash and carry trading' as they have made cent per cent sales to Vector E-Commerce Pvt Ltd which is in contravention of amendment dated April 1, 2010 and October 1, 2010 which permitted only 25 per cent sale to companies belonging to the same group or group companies.' As per the ED, Myntra Designs Pvt Ltd and others have contravened the provisions as per section 6(3)(b) of the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 and Consolidated FDI Policy dated April 1, 2010 and consolidated FDI Policy dated October 1, 2010 to the tune of Rs. 1654,35,08,981.
