'Lilo & Stitch' cruises to No 1 spot on week 3; 'Ballerina' dances to 2nd place and 'Mission: Impossible' lands 3rd
In the box office showdown between a deadly assassin and a chaotic CG alien, "Lilo & Stitch" still had the edge. The Disney juggernaut celebrated a third weekend at the top of the charts, while the John Wick spinoff "Ballerina" did not jete as high as expected. According to studio estimates Sunday, "From the World of John Wick: Ballerina" earned $25 million from 3,409 theaters in the U.S. and Canada. Several weeks ago it was tracking to open in the $35 to $40 million range, but that was adjusted down several times. Ultimately, it still came in lower than forecasts. The movie, directed by Len Wiseman, makes a sideline character out of Keanu Reeves' John Wick and focuses on Ana de Armas. It takes place during the events of "John Wick 3." The box office performance is a bit perplexing result considering that "Ballerina" got good critic reviews and audience exit polls. Conventional wisdom would say that word of mouth might have given it a boost over the weekend. But, recently, opening weekend isn't the end all that it used to be. "Ballerina" could be in the game for the long haul. "Even though its part of the John Wick franchise, it's playing like a true original. Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 오스템 임플란트 받아가세요 임플란터 더 알아보기 Undo And that's not a bad thing," said Paul Dergarabedian, the senior media analyst for Comscore. "This was not a movie that was ever going to open like a 'Mission: Impossible' or another huge franchise." The Lionsgate release, a Thunder Road Films and 87Eleven Entertainment production, had a hefty production price tag reported to be in the $90 million range. But much of that cost has already been offset by foreign pre-sales. Internationally, it earned $26 million from 82 countries, bringing its global opening to $51 million. As the first spinoff, it's the second lowest opening of the five-film franchise - above only the first film which opened just over $14 million in 2014, which does not account for inflation. The franchise overall has grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. Dergarabedian added that the R-rated "Ballerina" could also be positioned for a strong second weekend, when it goes up against family-targeted "How to Train Your Dragon." First place once again went to "Lilo & Stitch," which added another $32.5 million in North America, bringing its domestic total to $335.8 and global tally to $772.6 million. In just 17 days, it's already made more domestically than the live-action "The Little Mermaid" did in its entire run ($298 million). "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning" slid to third place with $15 million, bringing its worldwide total to $450.4 million. "Karate Kid: Legends" earned $8.7 million to take fourth place. And "Final Destination: Bloodlines" rounded out the top five with $6.5 million. The new Wes Anderson movie "The Phoenician Scheme" expanded beyond New York and Los Angeles to 1,678 theaters nationwide. The Focus Features release starring Benicio del Toro made an estimated $6.3 million and landed in sixth place. The R-rated anime "Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye" also made the top 10 in its first weekend. The GKIDS release made $3.1 million from 1,080 theaters. Overall, the box office is up over 26% from this point in 2024. Top 10 movies by domestic box office With final domestic figures being released Monday, this list factors in the estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore: 1. "Lilo & Stitch," $32.5 million. 2. "From the World of John Wick: Ballerina," $25 million. 3. "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning," $15 million. 4. "Karate Kid: Legends," $8.7 million. 5. "Final Destination: Bloodlines," $6.5 million. 6. "The Phoenician Scheme," $6.3 million. 7. "Bring Her Back," $3.5 million. 8. "Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye," $3.1 million. 9. "Sinners," $2.9 million. 10. Will BTS' V take on film project after military discharge? IU's Love Wins All director reveals desire for acting
Renowned South Korean filmmaker Uhm Taehwa recently sat down for a talk during the Muju Film Festival. He has garnered critical acclaim for his award-winning film Concrete Utopia. The session was hosted by Editor-in-Chief Joo Sung Chul. It offered fans and film enthusiasts a chance to learn more about Uhm's recent projects. One of the highlights included his collaboration with BTS' Kim Taehyung (V) for the cinematic music video Love Wins All, performed by IU. The emotionally gripping music video, released earlier this year, took fans by surprise with its apocalyptic plot and raw performances. During the interview, Uhm Taehwa revealed new behind-the-scenes details about the short two-day filming period. He also praised Taehyung 's acting skills and professional attitude. V filmed just before military enlistment One of the most surprising revelations was the incredibly tight filming schedule. Uhm disclosed that the entire shoot for Love Wins All was completed in only two days. It was because Kim Taehyung was due to enlist in the military immediately afterward. 'He filmed with us almost right before enlisting, cut his hair right after filming, and then left the next day, I think,' the director recalled. 'That's how much he wanted to do it.' Despite the time constraints, Taehyung brought intense emotion and precision to his role. Director hopes to collaborate again post-enlistment Joo Sung Chul also brought up the overwhelming fan comments requesting a future film collaboration with Taehyung. The host highlighted how many fans were hoping the director would team up with the BTS star after his military discharge. With Taehyung's return set for June 10, 2025, Uhm didn't hesitate to express his interest in working with him again. 'For me, if Taehyung were willing to do it, I'd be so grateful. I'd love to work with him, even if I had to make up a role just to ask him,' he said sincerely. 'He was very passionate about it [music video]. That's when I realized he had a real desire to act.' He further added, 'And honestly, I'm not joking. It would be amazing if we could work together again in the future.' V's creative input altered the final scene Uhm also revealed that a major scene was changed at Taehyung's suggestion. Initially, the final sequence was meant to feature Taehyung and IU's characters in wedding attire, singing on stage. After that, they were supposed to dive into a crowd for a dramatic crowd-surfing moment. However, time constraints made this difficult to execute. "As a director, I really wanted to film that scene. So I kept trying to make it work until the very end, but then Taehyung convinced me," Uhm admitted. "He said, 'Instead of this, how about we film another scene better?' He talked me into it, and he was right." With Taehyung's military discharge just days away, the question of what he'll do next remains a hot topic. And Uhm Taehwa's public willingness to collaborate again could open doors to a possible film project in the future.

Will Ana de Armas' Ballerina get a sequel? Here's what we know about the future of John Wick spinoff so far
Ana de Armas stunned audiences with her fierce performance in Ballerina, the latest addition to the John Wick universe. The film, which premiered on June 6, 2025, follows Rooney, a young ballerina trained as an assassin, as she hunts down the people responsible for her family's murder. Set between John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, the movie combines elegant choreography with brutal action and emotional depth, and fans are already wondering if there's more to come. The director definitely left the door open Director Len Wiseman has hinted that this might not be the last we see of Ana's Rooney. While speaking about the casting of Norman Reedus as the mysterious Daniel Pine in the new film, he shared that Pine's role was designed with future stories in mind. He admitted that although the main focus was on this film, the characters were created to have paths that could continue. "I cast Norman Reedus because I have plans for him," Wiseman told Entertainment Weekly. "And I would love to see him come back in a way that he's now kind of indebted to her." The producers are already thinking ahead Even before the film's release, producer Erica Lee spoke about the potential for more. Back in 2023, she said they had already started discussing a follow-up and that Ana de Armas was expected to return. She called the early plans "hopeful" and hinted that Ballerina could become a key part of a larger universe that ties in with John Wick 5. Ballerina's ties to the John Wick world Ballerina is not just a side story. It takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 and features several familiar faces, including Keanu Reeves as Wick himself, Anjelica Huston, Lance Reddick, and Ian McShane. This direct connection to the main timeline makes the spinoff feel like part of something much bigger, not just a one-time detour. So, is Ballerina 2 happening? There's no official confirmation yet, but all signs point to yes. With the cast and crew already talking about continuing the story and the way the film fits into the larger John Wick world, it feels like Ballerina was built to be the start of something more. Fans will just have to stay tuned. But if the excitement around the film is any clue, Rooney's story probably isn't over just yet.
