The Sun6 days ago
SHAH ALAM: A senior officer from the Johor Immigration Department has pleaded not guilty to five charges of money laundering, involving a total of RM933,295, in the Sessions Court here today.
Nas Suffian Nasrun, 41, denied all charges before Judge Datuk Mohd Nasir Nordin. The offences allegedly occurred between 2022 and 2024, involving multiple bank transactions.
The first charge accuses Nas Suffian of directly engaging in money laundering by transferring RM224,840 from a man's account to his mother's bank account through 29 online transactions between November 1, 2023, and May 29, 2024.
He is also accused of receiving RM297,600 from unlawful activities, transferred from the same individual's account to his personal account in 29 transactions between October 19, 2022, and August 8, 2024.
Another charge involves transferring RM113,375 from his account to another individual's account in 32 transactions between April 16, 2023, and November 2, 2023.
The fourth charge states that he transferred RM209,080 from a company account he operates to his personal account through 55 transactions between July 29, 2022, and July 1, 2024.
The final charge alleges he moved RM88,400 from his mother's account to his own in 17 transactions between November 5, 2023, and September 23, 2024.
All offences were allegedly committed at bank branches in Kota Damansara and Kajang. The charges fall under Sections 4(1)(a) and 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
If convicted, Nas Suffian faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of at least five times the laundered amount or RM5 million, whichever is higher.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Amirah Muhammad Ali proposed an RM800,000 bail with additional conditions.
However, defence lawyer Muhammad Zaim Rosli requested a lower amount, citing his client's financial responsibilities, including supporting five school-going children.
The court granted bail at RM100,000 with conditions, including monthly reporting to the MACC, surrendering his passport, and not interfering with witnesses.
The case will be mentioned on September 12. - Bernama

MCMC probes company over online sale of uncertified communication devices

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched an investigation into a company suspected of selling uncertified communication devices online. In a statement today, MCMC said the probe follows a joint operation with the police under the integrated enforcement initiative Op Taring Bravo 3, which involved multiple enforcement agencies. The operation uncovered 3,837 units of various communication devices, such as wireless gaming consoles, remote controls, smart devices and tablets, estimated to be worth RM500,000, which were seized by the police and handed over to MCMC for technical analysis and further review. "These devices are believed to have been marketed without valid technical certification from MCMC," the commission said. The case is being investigated under Regulation 16 of the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000, which carries a maximum fine of RM300,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both, upon conviction. MCMC stressed its commitment to enforcing regulations to safeguard consumers and uphold market integrity. It urged the public to report any information regarding the sale or distribution of such devices through MCMC's official complaint channels or directly to the police. – Bernama

Kuching drug bust nets RM3.07m syabu in mobile store operation

KUCHING: A drug trafficking syndicate using cars as 'mobile stores' to discreetly deliver syabu was dismantled by police in a special operation in Kota Sentosa. The raid, conducted on July 19, led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of methamphetamine worth RM3.072 million. Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan revealed that the syndicate left vehicles containing drugs unlocked at designated locations, allowing buyers to collect supplies without direct interaction. 'This tactic was used to evade detection,' he said. During the raid, police found 80 packages marked 'Guan Yin Wang' containing crystal lumps suspected to be syabu. The total seizure weighed 83 kilogrammes, with an estimated street value of RM3.07 million, potentially affecting 415,000 users. Cash amounting to RM1,100 was also confiscated under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988. Initial investigations indicate the drugs were sourced from Peninsular Malaysia via air routes before being distributed in Sarawak and Kalimantan, Indonesia. One suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, while the other had prior criminal records related to gambling and false information. Both are remanded for seven days pending further investigations. The case is being probed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and a minimum of 12 cane strokes upon conviction. - Bernama
