Ross Kemp says he owes EastEnders ‘a great debt' and refuses to rule out return

Leader Live2 days ago

The 60-year-old returned to EastEnders as Grant Mitchell after almost 10 years away during its 40th anniversary celebrations earlier this year, as his character returned to Albert Square to help his brother Phil with his mental health problems.
Grant recently left Walford again for his home in Portugal.
Asked on ITV's Loose Women whether he would return to the role again, Kemp said: 'You just don't know, do you? You don't know what's in the minds of the people who work on it.
'I've also (always) known that without it, I wouldn't have had the career that I've had, I've always owed it a great debt and it was very good to me, and hopefully I was good to it, and why not keep it that way?
'I've always believed that you should leave doors swinging rather than shut them.'
Kemp, who went on to produce a number of documentaries since first leaving EastEnders in 1999 including Ross Kemp On Gangs, Ross Kemp In Afghanistan and Ross Kemp: Extreme World, said he enjoyed returning to the soap.
He explained: 'It was so wonderful to jump into Grant's leather jacket again, which I can still get in.
'It's a family, it's an ongoing thing, and I'm talking about the past, and they're really busy doing their own thing, I just parachute in, and I exit generally by the tube station.
'But they've got to be welcoming, because it's like a high-speed train, you've got to jump on it at the right time or you miss it.
'So luckily, Steve McFadden (who plays Phil), and Paul Bradley (who plays Nigel Bates), and Letitia (Dean, who plays Sharon Watts) opened the door for me, and it was like going back home, and it was great.'
Kemp began on the soap in 1990, and his previous appearance prior to his 2025 return, in 2016, marked his on-screen mother Dame Barbara Windsor's final episode as Peggy Mitchell.
The actor currently hosts the BBC gameshow Bridge Of Lies, which challenges contestants to cross a digital bridge by choosing a true statement over a set of wrong ones.

Beloved ITV game show confirms epic return to screens with lineup of telly titans - including Holly Willoughby, Danny Jones, Johnny Vegas and Alison Hammond

A beloved ITV game show has confirmed its epic return to our screens with a lineup of TV titans. You Bet! On Tour, produced by Rollercoaster Television, will follow on from the very successful first season of You Bet! - which managed to reach 12 million viewers. The official press release states that: 'This time bigger and braver than ever, as it hits the road for more epic and unique challenges.' The programme will be hosted by none other than Stephen Mulhern, 48. And fans will be very impressed with the line-up, which will see the show travel up and down the country. A range of famous faces will be taking part, including former host Holly Willoughby, 44, Danny Jones, 39, Johnny Vegas, 54, and Alison Hammond, 50. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. They will be joined by Zoe Ball, 54, Rob Beckett, 39, Alex Booker, 41, Rylan Clark, 36, Babatunde Aléshé, 38, Josie Gibson, 40, Eddie Kadi, 42, Judi Love, 45, Oti Mabuse, 34, Mick Mohammed, 44, AJ Odudu, 37, Will Best, 40, Greg Rutherford, 38, Adam, 36, and Ryan Thomas, 40, and Josh Widdicombe, 42. Speaking about the upcoming series, Stephen said: 'I'm absolutely thrilled that You Bet! is back - and this time we're hitting the road! 'Each week I'll be joined by a top celeb panel, as our challengers take on some brilliantly bonkers and amazing challenges. 'With the title of You Bet Champion on the line, it's going to be unbelievable from the start.' Director of Entertainment & Daytime Commissioning at ITV, Katie Rawcliffe, added: 'We are so excited to announce that You Bet! is getting out of the studio and onto the road. 'Free from the constraints of being inside, the show can bring viewers even more extreme and exciting big-scale challenges than ever before.' Meanwhile joint MDs of Rollercoaster Television, James Fox and Dom Waugh, said: 'After the success of the two special episodes last year, we're delighted to be bringing You Bet! back once again for a full series. 'If you bet that we'd be heading out and about across the country, having even more fun with our celebrity panel, and delivering even bigger and more spectacular challenges - then you'd be 100% right!' You Bet! - which is based on the German show Wetten, das...? - originally hit our screens in 1988 and was presented by Bruce Forsyth until 1990. It aired on our screens until 1997. The show had a number of presenters including Bruce, Matthew Kelly and Darren Day. You Bet! was revived in December last year, with Stephen and Holly taking on the role as presenters. In March this year MailOnline revealed that Holly had quit her role as host. ITV sources told us that she is 'busy with other commitments', which meant she was unable to return to the programme she hosted a two part special last year alongside Stephen Mulhern. A source told the Mail: 'You Bet was so popular with the viewers wished it came back for two shows that ITV bosses decided to give it a full run. 'Holly and Stephen are a great double act and they were both brilliant so they were asked back. 'But Holly politely declined, she has other commitments and couldn't make it work. 'She is in demand and now she isn't shackled to This Morning four days a week, she is able to look at more options, some are global. 'Celebrity Bear Hunt was a huge thing for her, her first role with Netflix and she just loved it and they loved her so there could very well be much more where that came from.

Queen Elizabeth's 'bemused' two-word Archie and Lilibet comment

Prince Harry claims his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, was "bemused" by his two children, Archie and Lilibet, in his autobiography, Spare, on their final meeting Today marks the fourth birthday of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's daughter, Lilibet, with private festivities likely to be held in her honour. The couple, who tied the knot in 2018, welcomed their youngest child into the world in on June 4, 2021, two years after the birth of her older brother Archie, who is now six. ‌ Since 2020, the family of four have lived in America, following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's decision to step back from their senior royal roles. ‌ Just two years after their relocation Stateside, Harry's grandmother, the longest-serving British monarch, passed away at the age of 96. Reflecting on his children's "final visit" to Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Harry suggested she was "bemused" by the youngsters, reports the Scottish Daily Express. In his explosive autobiography Spare, he discussed her funeral before continuing: "The following morning, Meg and I left for America. "For days and days we couldn't stop hugging the children, couldn't let them out of our sight, though I also couldn't stop picturing them with granny, the final visit. "Archie was making deep, chivalrous bows, his baby sister Lilibet cuddling the monarch's shins." ‌ Recounting his grandmother's response, he said she referred to them as the "sweetest children", while "sounding bemused". "She'd expected them to be a bit more... American, I think? Meaning, in her mind, more rambunctious," he added. "Now, while overjoyed to be home again, doing drop-offs again, reading Giraffes Can't Dance again, I couldn't stop remembering." ‌ Following the Queen's passing, her son ascended to the throne as King Charles III, with his wife Camilla taking on the role of Queen Consort. Reports suggest that the Royal couple have met Archie a handful of times but have only met Lilibet once during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II in June 2022. ‌ In recent years, Prince Harry and his family have become distant, a fact he confirmed himself in a recent interview. Speaking to the BBC, the Duke of Sussex expressed a desire for reconciliation, stating: "There's no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious." Harry revealed that his father "won't speak to him" following a dispute over his security arrangements. ‌ This year, Harry faced defeat in a legal case concerning the downgrading of his personal security level. Reflecting on the verdict, he shared: "I'm devastated - not so much as devastated with the loss that I am about the people behind the decision, feeling as though this is okay. Is it a win for them? ‌ "I'm sure there are some people out there, probably most likely the people that wish me harm, W.H.O. consider this a huge win." Prince Harry also mentioned that he has decided against pursuing further legal action, as the judgement "proven that there was no way to win this through the courts". He went on to say the decision also meant that he "can't see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point".

Katherine Ryan pregnant with fourth child as she shows off growing bump

The comedian is expecting her third baby with husband Bobby Kootstra, a spokesperson confirmed. Katherine Ryan has confirmed she's pregnant with her fourth child. The comedian is already mum to Violet, 15, three-year-old son Fred and Fenna, two. Katherine shares her youngest kids with childhood sweetheart Bobby Kootstra, who she reconnected with during filming for BBC's Who Do You Think You Are. Fans started becoming convinced the funny woman, 41, was expecting again after some hints on Violet's TikTok last week and on Monday this week, she attended an event in London and couldn't hide a burgeoning baby bump. ‌ The Canadian star looked glowing as she stunned in a tight dress which showed off all her curves - and bump - as she took to the red carpet for the Ageing and Biohacking: The Science of Immortality event at SXSW in the capital. She then took to the stage to give a speech, as writes the Mirror. ‌ The happy health news comes just months after the star revealed that she had been diagnosed with a cancerous mole on her arm after previously having melanoma when she was younger. She said on her podcast: "The mole kept changing, I know a lot about melanoma, I had stage two melanoma as a very young woman - aged 21 - on my leg, I've spoken about that before. But even when he looked at it, he was like, 'it's not melanoma, it's totally fine, I will do a shave and send it away for testing'." Katherine pushed for medics to take a closer look despite being told she had nothing to worry about. Soon after the doctor reassured Katherine once more that it was likely not melanoma, she was called back with the confirmation that it was cancerous. The Netflix Duchess star has been open about her desire for a fourth child and spoke about her feelings on her fertility on her U&W show At Home With Katherine Ryan. She said: "It's not that surprising that over-40 women have fewer follicles than we once did. ‌ "But we talk a lot about male fertility as well, which is on a steep decline. But I would still like a fourth baby. We are so blessed to have the kids that we do have. Having children is not for everyone, but I personally really like making people. I think it's a superpower, if you can do it." Katherine and Bobby have suffered three miscarriages since he moved to the UK from Canada after they rekindled their teenage romance in 2018 when she returned to Canada to film Who Do You Think You Are? She previously raised Violet on her own after becoming a single mum at 25. She told OK! Magazine last year: "I'm old. I used to think I was going to be the babies' dad because I'm working but actually I'm like their grandmother. ‌ "My back hurts, sometimes I give them treats. I'm like a fun grandma." She went on: "We've always gotten pregnant with the babies quite quickly. I've been pregnant five times in five years, but that also means I've had three miscarriages in five years and the likelihood of that increases as you get older. "You have to find a balance between what you can personally stand and risks you're willing to take." Katherine has made it clear that surrogacy isn't for her. ‌ "It's controversial to say but I wouldn't want that labour – both literal and also the workload – to fall on another woman," she said. "I think surrogacy is wonderful. It's beautiful for people who are really eager to offer it and for couples who need it but for me, I think it would be exploitative." Katherine also spoke about how having children with Bobby has been different to when she was a single parent. "Now Bobby has come into the picture, the babies are here and everyone is well supported because we're a family unit," she explained. "I think arguably it's better for the children to have siblings and a dad at home, but Violet and I were really happy and I like to intensely love one thing or one person."
