'I only believe in S...' – Google salutes Mohammed Siraj's heroics at The Oval
India's fast bowler
Mohammed Siraj
delivered a match-winning five-wicket haul on Monday at The Oval, leading India to a thrilling six-run victory over England and leveling the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2.
England, starting as favourites on the final day needing just 35 runs with four wickets in hand, fell short as India's bowlers orchestrated a stunning turnaround in the morning session.
Siraj played a pivotal role in dismantling England's batting lineup, first dismissing Jamie Smith with a caught-behind after UltraEdge confirmed a faint edge. He then trapped Jamie Overton lbw with a sharp inswinger, a decision that remained unchanged even after England reviewed it.

Prasidh Krishna also played his part in England's collapse by bowling Josh Tongue with a pinpoint 141 kph yorker, reducing England from 347/6 to 354/9.
"I have a wallpaper on my phone that says 'Belief.' And I always believe in myself. I was just focusing on bowling in the right areas. I wasn't too concerned about conceding boundaries—I just wanted to stick to the plan and take wickets," Siraj said after the match.
Following Siraj's heroics, Google India paid tribute to him, taking a cue from his now-viral quote: 'I only believe in Jassi bhai,' which he had said about
Jasprit Bumrah
after India's 2024 T20 World Cup win.
In a clever twist, Google turned that phrase into a tribute to Siraj himself.

'Congratulations Team India,' Google India wrote on X, along with an image showing a search for "I only believe in S," where "Siraj bhai" amusingly appears as the top suggestion.
Earlier, Google India had also tweeted about Siraj downloading an image of the word 'Believe' from Google. "There are Google Searches and then there's this," the tweet read.
It was a moment of redemption for Mohammed Siraj in more ways than one. Not only did he make up for the dropped catch of Harry Brook — who went on to score 92 after the reprieve — but he also bounced back from the disappointment of Manchester, where he was the last man out, bowled by Shoaib Bashir while trying to defend.

Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Siraj said, 'Honestly, I didn't think I had stepped on the boundary cushion after holding onto the catch. It was a match-changing moment. Harry Brook went into T20 mode after that, and we were behind in that phase. Thanks to the almighty.'
He added, 'I always have the belief that I can deliver for the team in any situation.'

Joe Root will have nightmares about Josh Hazlewood before Ashes tour: David Warner
Former Australian opener David Warner hasn't backed down from his pointed remarks about star batter Joe Root, once again highlighting the England batter's struggles in Australia. Never one to shy away from stirring the pot ahead of a big series, Warner believes Root will again find the going tough against Josh Hazlewood in the upcoming Ashes, set to be played Down Under later this week, Warner raised eyebrows with his "surfboard" jibe aimed at Root's front pad technique, implying that Hazlewood has often exploited that vulnerability. "The big anchor there is Rooty, who is yet to score a hundred in Australia. Josh Hazlewood tends to have his number quite a lot. He'll have to take the surfboard off his front leg," Warner told BBC one of the world's premier Test batters, Root has been dismissed by Hazlewood ten times in the longest format - a tally only exceeded by Pat Cummins and India's Jasprit Bumrah, who have dismissed him 11 times each. However, only three of Hazlewood's dismissals have come via LBW - a point Root's former teammate Stuart Broad was quick to highlight. "I've never heard England's best-ever batter's front pad called a surfboard. Just for clarity. Hazlewood has got Rooty LBW in Test cricket three times. Three," Broad posted on X, defending his long-time and Broad recently crossed paths during The Hundred - Warner representing London Spirit and Broad donning the commentator's hat. Speaking to reporters after a match, Warner doubled down on his comments, claiming Australia have long identified Root's front pad as a weakness. "That's where we always targeted him," he left-hander even drew a parallel between Root's troubles against Hazlewood and his own well-documented struggles against Broad, who dismissed him 17 times in Tests. "I think he will have nightmares before he gets over there about Josh Hazlewood. A bit like me and Broady," Warner Root's credit, he has transformed his Test career in the post-Covid era, scoring centuries at a brisk pace. He is now just one ton away from the elite 40-century club. In the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, he racked up 537 runs in nine innings, becoming the second-highest run-getter in Test history in the process. Warner acknowledged Root's class but couldn't resist one final dig. "Joe is a hell of a cricket player. But I'm sure he'd like to score a hundred in Australia. It's one that has eluded him," he remarked.- EndsMust Watch

'Saying he'll only play three Tests was unnecessary' – Former India wicketkeeper on India's handling of Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah of India (Photo by) Former India wicketkeeper-batter Deep Dasgupta has criticized the Indian cricket team's decision to announce Jasprit Bumrah 's limited availability of three Tests before the recent Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series in England, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Dasgupta believes this pre-series announcement was unnecessary and the team could have made decisions based on physical conditions and series scenarios. Bumrah participated in three Tests during the series - the first Test at Headingley, Leeds, followed by matches at Lord's and Old Trafford, Manchester. He secured 14 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls, bowling 119.4 overs at an average of 26. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The fast bowler was not included in the playing eleven for the fifth Test at The Oval and was released from the squad before day two's play. "Well, I think India shouldn't have announced the fact that he would be playing only three Test matches prior to departing for the series. I mean, you can always take a call on his availability as and when based on his physical situation and series scenario. But this thing of saying that he will be playing only three Test matches before the series has started, I think India could have avoided it," Dasgupta told IANS. Inside The Oval: An Exclusive Tour of the Stadium Where India Played the Final Test Dasgupta questioned India's approach to managing Bumrah's workload, which involves giving him adequate rest and playing him in crucial matches. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brain tumor has left my son feeling miserable; please help! Donate For Health Donate Now Undo "It depends on obviously him and the medical staff. But how I see it is, he's the best bowler in the world across three formats. So, you want him for all the crucial games. But then once he's available for the crucial ones, then I guess it can't be at the start of a tournament, that I'm going to play only 40% or 60% of the games - that can't happen." Poll Do you agree with Deep Dasgupta's criticism of India's announcement regarding Bumrah's limited availability? Yes, it was unnecessary. No, it was a strategic decision. "I mean, keep him ready for the crucial ones, and make sure he's available for all games. Then obviously, if there are injuries, if the body has taken a toll and he's not ready, that's a different issue altogether. But this availability for 50%, 60%, and all, I think that needs to be looked into because he is by far the best bowler in the world right now," he added. In Bumrah's absence at The Oval, Prasidh Krishna stepped up with impressive performance, taking four wickets in each innings for a match total of 8-188. Despite facing criticism on social media for underwhelming performances in the first two Tests at Headingley and Edgbaston, Krishna finished the series strongly with his performance at The Oval. "With Prasidh, he's a quality bowler. I mean, his release is the best in this Indian team in terms of his backspin and seam position, and skill-wise, he's right up there. Only thing is, obviously, over the years, even though he made his first-class debut a long time ago, because of injuries and all, he hasn't really played a lot of cricket and never got into a rhythm." "He would play a Test match or two, and then get injured. But then, also in the first few Test matches, I don't think he was used well. By the time the last Test came, he got some rhythm and bowled the way he generally bowls. So a lot of credit to him, and I hope this gives him a lot of confidence and he plays a lot because, again, he's found his rhythm. I hope he goes back to India and keeps bowling in future matches," Dasgupta concluded. The decision to manage Bumrah's workload came after he suffered a back injury in the Sydney Test against Australia in January this year, as explained by chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir before the team's departure for England.
