BREAKING: New York State Police say they have arrested a Canadian man who faces charges after his nine-year-old daughter was found dead over the weekend near the Vermont border.
Police say Luciano Frattolin is facing charges of second-degree murder and the concealment of a human corpse.
Police say the body of Montreal resident Melina Frattolin was found on Sunday in Ticonderoga, NY, about 50 kilometres northeast of Lake George near the New York-Vermont border.
More coming.
Our earlier story:
A nine-year-old girl from Quebec who was reported missing in Lake George, New York, has been found dead and her father, Luciano Frattolin, is being held at the Essex County Jail, according to reports.
Melina Frattolin was reported missing at approximately 9:58 p.m. on July 19. Her father, 45, had told authorities that she had disappeared near Exit 22 of Interstate 87, close to the popular tourist destination in upstate New York.
Initially treated as a possible abduction, the case prompted a search involving several agencies, including the Warren County Sheriff's Office, Essex County Sheriff's Office, Ticonderoga Police Department and New York State Police canine and aviation units.
As the investigation progressed, police said they identified 'inconsistencies' in the father's account of events and the timeline he provided. The case was then turned over to the New York State Police.
In a statement issued Sunday, police said Melina's body was located in Ticonderoga, approximately an hour northeast of where she was reported missing.
'There is no indication that an abduction occurred, and no threat to the public,' the statement read.
A press conference is expected Monday.
According to Quebec's business registry, Luciano Frattolin is the owner of Gambella Coffee, based in downtown Montreal.

The president labeled Edward 'Big Balls' Coristine a 'young man, beautiful, handsome guy.'

President Trump has labelled teenage ex-DOGE staffer Edward 'Big Balls' Coristine a 'beautiful, handsome guy' after claiming to have checked in on him following a brutal carjacking. 19-year-old Coristine was left bloodied after a carjacking incident in Washington, D.C. on Sunday. The president posted a gruesome photo from the crime scene on his Truth Social account on Tuesday, before threatening a federal takeover of D.C. to lower the crime rate. The teenager was approached by at least two teenagers at around 3am, Metropolitan Police arrested a 15-year-old male and 15-year-old female, both of Hyattsville, Maryland, and charged them with unarmed carjacking.

Man from U.S. caught trying to enter Canada by kayak, LaSalle police say

LaSalle, Ont., police said one of their officers made an unexpected discovery early Wednesday morning — finding a man from the U.S. who allegedly was trying to illegally enter Canada by kayak. In a news release, the LaSalle Police Service said that around 1 a.m. ET, an officer "was conducting commercial property checks in the 1800 block of Front Road," which travels along the edge of the Detroit River. The officer was behind one of the businesses when he spotted a man at the edge of the river with a kayak and two backpacks, LaSalle police said. "The officer investigated and discovered the man was attempting to illegally enter Canada." Police said they detained the 51-year-old from the U.S. and turned him over to the RCMP "for further investigation." A local spokesperson for the federal police force, which handles border issues outside of official ports of entry, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. LaSalle police Chief Michael Pearce praised the officer's discovery Wednesday. "This is an outstanding example demonstrating that proactive police work can yield unintended positive outcomes," Pearce said in the news release. "While conducting a simple property check, I'm confident our officer did not expect to find someone trying to illegally enter Canada."
