Unexpected new romance for Jason in Corrie - and it will devastate Todd

Metroa day ago

Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas) is back on Coronation Street, and in some ways it's like he's never been away – he's still managing to annoy his brother Todd (Gareth Pierce), and he still has a roving eye as far as women are concerned.
In his younger days, Jason dated quite a few of the Street's female population, including Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon), Rosie Webster (Helen Flanagan), Violet Wilson (Jenny Platt) and Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien), the latter of whom he married.
And it won't be long before his head is turned by someone else, much to Todd's annoyance.
After ten years away from Weatherfield, Jason turned up unexpectedly for the wake of his aunt, Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh) and Eileen (Sue Cleaver) was thrilled to see him. It was a bright spark of happiness for her in among grieving for Julie and being under suspicion of having assisted her sister's death.
Ryan Thomas's return is part of Sue's exit storyline, as the actor agreed to come back to Corrie after she specifically asked him to be involved.
'I got the call from Sue Cleaver asking if I would come back for her exit, so I'm going to step onto the cobbles for five minutes,' he said. 'When they told me Eileen was leaving, it felt right to be a part of that storyline for her and revisit where it all started. It's been the perfect storyline and a real memory I can cherish.'

In upcoming scenes, Jason pops into the Rovers for a quick drink and soon spots an attractive woman. They get chatting, and things are going well so they move to a quiet table.
When Jason happens to mention his brother, Todd, the woman reacts in a shocked way for a second before she covers. Because Jason's mystery woman is none other than Danielle (Natalie Anderson) – Theo (James Cartwright)'s wife.
Theo, as viewers know, married Danielle years ago and they have two teenage children together. But after meeting Todd, Theo has begun to realise that he can't suppress the fact that he's gay any longer. His relationship with Todd has torn the family apart, and Danielle has not taken this well.

So when she finds out that the man who's chatting her up in the Rovers is the brother of the man she views as having wrecked her life, how will she react? More Trending
And how will Todd react when he discovers what's been going on?
For Jason, any romance will most likely be short-lived anyway, as he'll soon be making Eileen an offer to move to Thailand with him to be his business partner.

Will we see Eileen waving goodbye to her everyday existence as a cab controller in Weatherfield and heading for even more exotic climes than Gail Platt (Helen Worth) managed? She's got to be hugely tempted.

Netflix fans lap up new number 1 film based on shocking real-life murder

The new number one film on Netflix is based on a shocking but little-known real-life murder. A Widow's Game was released on the streaming platform on Friday and is already at the top of the movie charts in the UK. The Spanish-language thriller, starring Ivana Baquero, Tristán Ulloa, and Carmen Machi, follows the investigation into the slaying of engineer Antonio Navarro Cerdán (Álex Gadea). As police dig further into the matter, led by veteran homicide detective Eva (Machi) his widow's perfect façade is shattered, exposing a hidden double life. But what has sucked so many early viewers in already, only a day after the film's release, is the fact that A Widow's Game is about a real-life murder that took place in Valencia, Spain, less than a decade ago, involving manipulation and betrayal. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. The movie even includes real-life recordings from throughout the case. Eager fans who have already seen the film have rushed to share their thoughts, with Anastasiia Bantysh's five-star review remarking that the film 'portrays the nature of true human needs, depravity, and excessive self-confidence very well'. 'Loved it – didn't know anything about the story – well done, bravo to everyone involved,' added Judith Lungen in another five-star ruling. El Confidencial's critic Jose Madrid gave the film three and a half stars, declaring it 'accessible and pacey, addictive throughout its two hours and faithful (perhaps too much so) to the real event it portrays'. He also added that fans would 'enjoy a production that won't let you take your eyes off [it] once you press play'. Read on if you want to discover the true story as depicted in A Widow's Game… On August 16, 2017, Antonio, a 36-year-old industrial engineer, was ambushed in his building's garage in the Patraix neighbourhood of Valencia before he could even start his car, according to Time magazine. Stabbed in the chest, he died at the scene, leaving behind his 27-year-old devastated widow María Jesús Moreno Cantó, known as Maje, who worked as a nurse. Despite her outward shows of grief and disbelief over the callous killing of her husband, investigators' suspicions were soon raised by Maje's 'calm and calculated' behaviour in early questioning – something very much at odds with the behaviour of someone thought to be in shock and mourning. Detectives soon discovered that Maje was in fact leading a wild double life, carrying on with multiple extramarital affairs. One of her lovers, Salvador Rodrigo Lapiedra, worked as a janitor at Maje's hospital. Desperately in love with her, Maje had managed to manipulate him into carrying out the murder with promises of her love and allegations of domestic abuse against Antonio. Phone taps revealed incriminating conversations between the two which confirmed the police's suspicions that Antonio's murder had been premeditated, with Maje giving Salvador all the information he would need – as well as keys to the married couple's garage. He lay in wait for Antonio to leave that fateful morning, armed with a kitchen knife which he later discarded in a cesspit at his property after the deed was done. The duo was arrested in January 2018, but the twists don't end there. While Salvador initially tried to protect Maje during questioning – who denied any involvement with her husband's death – he later changed his story after learning she had embarked on another relationship with an inmate while in custody. In his new statement, he admitted to the committing the crime of murder at Maje's behest and with her full support, after presenting herself as the victim of physical and psychological abuse. She had reportedly told him that her husband dying was better for their relationship than a divorce because she could keep both her inheritance and a widow's pension in the first instance. In October 2020, both Salvador and Maje were found guilty of murder: Maje received a 22-year sentence, while Salvador's time was reduced to 17 years due to his co-operation with the investigation. They were both also ordered to pay €250,000 (£210,762.50) in damages to Antonio's family. Maje was nicknamed the Black Widow of Patraix for her crime, which hinged on plotting the murder of her own husband for, among other things, financial gain. The Netflix film's Spanish title is La Viuda Negra, which translates directly as The Black Widow. More Trending And female black widow spiders are, of course, known for killing the male after mating. In a final scandalous note to the real-life case, Maje gave birth to a child in July 2023 after getting pregnant by her inmate lover – a man known as David, who is also a convicted murderer. She now resides in a mother-child unit at Fontcalent prison, where she is permitted to stay until her child is three. A Widow's Game is streaming on Netflix now. Got a story? Hollyoaks boss reveals how Sun's Soaps Editor sparked supervillain Clare Devine's return

HOLLYOAKS boss Hannah Cheers has revealed what sparked off iconic supervillain Clare Devine's return - and it turns out it's me. The executive producer had just been announced as the Channel 4 soap's new boss and was in full planning mode for the show's changes when I ran into her at an awards show last summer. 2 And like I do every time I see a soap boss - I used my time wisely by asking/demanding/begging for the return of my favourite characters. But for the time ever it actually happened. I sat down with Hannah on set earlier this month for a set visit where she revealed how our conversation in the hotel bar had sparked off the most iconic comeback since Kim Tate popped back to Emmerdale. She told me: 'It was you! It was the conversation we had in the hotel in Manchester that started it off. 'We were talking and you said, when are you going to bring Clare back? And I was like, oh my god, it's a million dollar question, everyone talks about it. 'And I said to you, because at the time we didn't have any plans, because obviously we were working towards the transition, and I was trying to filter people out, and trying to re-engineer stories, and trying to make sense of all of that, and knew that it wasn't possible right there and then. 'But the interesting thing that I said to you was, tell me what it is about Clare that is so important to you, and so iconic, and you said, because she's the only character who actually doesn't give a hell about what she does. She enjoys being evil and so I took inspiration from that with Grace's story.' She added: 'In terms of Clare, you know, again, I took on board massively what you said about she enjoys being evil and we're never going to come away from that because she does. 'However, in bringing Clare in 2025, what I spoke to Gemma about right at the beginning was 'I'm not doing this and just bringing in the third iteration of like Clare that is two dimensional and that only has that layer and level to her. 'Not that she didn't in the past, but she, as you said, she rarely had true, true feeling and true kind of like selflessness. She had nothing, nothing selfless about her. 'And she doesn't now, except now she has a reason to have experienced and make herself vulnerable and be susceptible to that. 'So we do see a different layer. She doesn't like showing it.' Viewers know that Clare's return has seen her arrive with a child - Tori - who she and DI Banks effectively kidnapped from her grandfather Dodger. 'Clare absolutely sees herself as that child's mother,' Hannah added. 'And that's also what's quite enjoyable. And it's so galling to everyone else in the community. So that has given her the chink in the armour.' And Hannah also revealed that Clare will play a big part in the 30th anniversary in October - and clash with Tori's great-grandfather - serial killer Jez Blake. 'Well, yes, obviously we've got two kind of Hollyoaks titans here,' she teased. 'We've got kind of very iconic Hollyoaks faces. And it's not an accident that they are both in the show in the run up to the 30th anniversary.' There will also be a classic Hollyoaks stunt for the 30th - which won't be limited to one episode - more a celebration over the entire month of October. Hannah said: 'You can't do a Hollyoaks commemoration without some kind of spectacle. So there will be a stunt.' And it's not just the Blakes that Clare has to deal with - her original, tiny nemesis Tom Cunningham is back to take her on. 'How could we possibly bring in Clare Devine and not have her original nemesis in the show?' Hannah laughed. From Hollyoaks to Hollywood James Corden played a caretaker in the early days of the soap. The former American TV host doesn't have much positive to say about his time on the soap, claiming it was "hell on earth." Since his short-lived time on the show he has gone on to bigger things including smash hit comedy Gavin and Stacey. Rachel Shenton joined the soap as aspiring glamour model Mitzeee Minniver in 2010. Over two years her character was sent to prison, got pregnant and had a number of romantic affairs. Since leaving Hollyoaks she has won an Oscar for best live action short film, The Silent Child. Rachel has also starred in White Gold and All Creatures Great and Small Emmett J. Scanlan played gangster turned anti-hero Brendan Brady. Emmett played the love interest of Steve Hayes, with their romance delighting fans until it turned violent. Since his departure Emmett has appeared in Peaky Blinders, The Fall, Gangs of London and even appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Emma Rigby joined Hollyoaks when she was 15 as Hannah Ahsworth. Hannah's eating disorder storyline was the first of it's kind on TV while other plots included being caught in a fire, gangland drug dealing and running away. Since leaving the soap in 2010 Emma has gone on to star in ABCs Once Upon a Time in Wonderland as the Red Queen. Other roles include guest appearances in Death In Paradise, Ripper Street and Fresh Meat Nico Mirallegro got his big break with Hollyoaks starring as emo Barry 'Newt' Newton. Nico's main storyline in the soap was developing schizophrenia which culminated in a suicide pact. He left the soap in 2010 and went on to star in My Mad Fat Diary, Our Girl, Rillington Place, The Ark and Common, Penance, as well as the Mike Leigh movie Peterloo and was nominated for a Bafta for his role in period drama The Village. Ricky Whittle used Hollyoaks as a stepping stone to break America. He played one of the soap's resident hunks, Calvin Valentine, from 2006 to 2011 - when he was killed off at his wedding. After leaving the soap Ricky cracked America starring in teen drama The 100 and America Gods. He also appeared in Strictly Come Dancing in 2009. Warren Brown joined Hollyoaks in 2005 for a year as evil Andy Holt. His stint on the show consisted of date rape storylines and a crime spree, before eventually being killed off. After leaving Hollyoaks, Warren became a big hitter in TV playing DS Justin Ripley in Luther, as well as major roles in a number of dramas including Liar, The Responder, Homefront and Good Cop. Wallis Day played Holly Cunningham in the soap for years before leaving. In 2021 Wallis won the role of Batwoman in DC's series, taking over from Ruby Rose. 'Again, it's a kind of nod to the past and celebration of all things Hollyoaks. 'Tom has the upper hand to start with, which I think is what's so surprising about this story. And there's a surprise reveal of how we first finds Tom.'

Carl and Abi first bumped into each other – quite literally – in the supermarket carpark, and the vibe between them was instant. Things became more complicated when they discovered that they were actually connected, with Carl's brother being Abi's husband, Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell). Though they have tried to keep their distance, it is clear there is still a spark between them. In this new video, we see the moment Abi attempts to push Carl away by saying that she wouldn't ever be interested in him. Carl admits that he can't get Abi out of his head and knows it's terrible to fancy his brother's partner, but he seemingly cannot make those feelings go away. Abi tells Carl to back off, but he seems adamant whatever they've got going on isn't going to end just yet. But is Carl right? What will happen next between him and Abi? More Trending 'She's been given this whole life with Kevin, the kids are secure, she's got a child now who's safe and she's all sorted. Her life is calm and loving, and that is something she's craved for', star Sally Carman said previously. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Who's leaving Coronation Street? There's like an animal inside her and she's absolutely fighting this with everything she's got.' 'I'm reading it [the scripts] thinking poor Kevin but I'm also thinking poor Abi because she's really fighting it, telling him to go away and leave her alone but he's just pursuing her relentlessly,' Sally teased.
