Paul Walter Hauser and Lili Reinhart to lead comedy thriller The Very Best People
The 38-year-old actor and the 'Riverdale' star, 28, will lead Brian Swibel's upcoming film in what will be his directorial debut alongside Tim Roth, Jake Lacey, Jai Courtney and Kerry Bishe.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, Deadline reports 'The Very Best People' will be based on John Lavelle's stage play of the same name, and is due to enter production in New York on 22 May.
Set in a Staten Island pub, 'The Very Best People' follows two childhood friends who, after the mysterious shooting of a disgraced NYPD detective, embark on a misguided mission for redemption.
Armed with conspiracy theories and a warped sense of patriotism, they plot to confront the so-called 'Deep State', leading to a series of absurd and violent events, including a light-hearted kidnapping.
Lavelle is also due to write the movie's script alongside 'Blades of Glory' scribe Craig Cox.
'The Very Best People' will be produced by Brent Emery, Justin Klosky, Alex Peace-Power, Tara Smith and Bita Khorrami for Swibel's Triptyk Studios alongside Bonnie Timmermann.
Meanwhile, Hauser, Reinhart, Dan Reardon and Lisa Wolofsky will serve as executive producers.
Hauser will be seen in this summer's Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbuster 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps', where he will star opposite Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in an undisclosed role.
The 'Black Bird' star previously teased the superhero film would usher in 'a new tide of successful storytelling' in the MCU.
Speaking with TheDirect, he said: 'So I think our movie, 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps', to me, only speaking from my opinion, everything I witnessed and took part in, everything I felt while in the presence of the creatives on the film, I believe we are the Marvel movie of the year.
'I believe we are the one to watch.'
The actor added 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' would 'hit', and compared it to previous successful Marvel movies like 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Black Panther'.
He said: 'I believe that this will go down in history as one of the ones that started a new tide of successful storytelling for the company.
'Sort of in the same way the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Black Panther' hit. They both hit in a certain way. I believe we are about to hit.'
Hauser also teased 'Fantastic Four: The First Steps' was 'a smart, chic Marvel movie' that revolves around the family element of the titular team.
During an appearance on Sam Roberts' show on SiriusXM, he said: 'I don't think I'm speaking out of school, and I think, from what I've seen, and obviously I can't say much about it, but I will say the short time I was on set, dude, they're making a cool movie, man.
'This is a smart, chic Marvel movie that really focuses on family as part of the theme. And you really kind of fall in love with those characters, I think.'

New Addams Family animated feature film being developed
Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are creating a new animated Addams Family feature film. The two showrunners of the Netflix series are developing an Addams Family reboot for Amazon MGM Studios which will be unconnected to Wednesday - which stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams - and the previous two animated films released in 2019 and 2021. Gough says his and Millar's inspiration is to honour the characters created by late American cartoonist Charles Addams, which were turned into a popular TV series in the mid-60s. Speaking on Deadline's Crew Call podcast, Gough said: "We're working on it with Amazon MGM and with Kevin Miserocchi who runs the Addams Foundation, he knew Charles Addams and the keeper of the Addams flame, and with Gail Berman and John Glickman. We're rebooting the animated film franchise. So it won't have anything to do with the two films before it, nor is it connected with this show. It will be a brand new Addams feature. There's not really much we can say about it, because it's in the very early stages.' The 1960s series about the macabre family - who first appeared in a cartoon strip in The New Yorker magazine - starred John Astin as patriarch Gomez Addams, Carolyn Jones as Gomez's wife Morticia Addams, Jackie Coogan as Uncle Fester, Ted Cassidy as Lurch, Lisa Loring as Wednesday Addams and Ken Weatherwax as Pugsley Addams. The Addams Family has also appeared in a 1973 animated series, a remake series which ran from 1992 to 1993 as well as several feature films, including Barry Sonnenfeld's 1991 live action movie.

Chase Sui Wonders confirms Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot role
Chase Sui Wonders had a lot of "fun" working on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. The 29-year-old actress has landed a mystery role on the upcoming series after befriending Sarah Michelle Gellar - who reprises her role as Buffy Summers - and she was thrilled to be part of the project. She told Deadline: 'Sarah Michelle Geller is just such a force to be reckoned with. We became fast friends on I Know What You Did last Summer. She's an incredible woman and just a cool person, and she asked me if I wanted to do it. "Then she told me about Chloé Zhao directing and [Nora and Lilla Zuckerman] showrunning. And then Eric Kissack, who is actually our editor on The Studio, is also editing the Buffy series.' The Studio actress didn't share any details about her role, but the outlet reports it is a one-off guest appearance and the character's name is Shirley. Chase added: 'What I can say is that it's a very fun way to enter this series, and [Sarah] is on set every day, from as soon as we start to when we wrap. She's very hands on.' Since signing on for the reboot, the actress has gone back to watch the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. She said: 'I've watched the entirety of the [original] series, so I'm really living inside Sunnydale at the moment. It's very cool and surreal to see young Sarah Michelle just be a total bada**, which I knew, but it's cool to see that she's been a bada** for a long time. 'It's the dream to bring back a show like this, to have someone who was there day in and day out and through the origin of the series, be the consultant. Max Minghella will star in Clayface
Max Minghella is in talks to star in Clayface. The Handmaid's Tale actor is set to join Tom Rhys Harries - who takes the title role in James Watkins' upcoming movie - and Naomi Ackie in the comic book movie centred around the Batman villain, though Deadline reports he hasn't yet closed a deal. It is currrently unclear what role Max is in line to play. The body horror thriller is focused on the supervillain and his appearance-altering powers, with comparisons to the feel and structure of 1986 classic The Fly. That film followed a relationship between a scientist (Jeff Goldblum) fused with the DNA of a fly, and the journalist (Geena Davis) writing about the discovery. For Clayface, a B-movie actor's life is changed for ever when his face gets disfigured by a gangster. He desperately seeks out a scientist for help, and while the experiment is initially a success, things take a sinister turn. The film is slated to shoot at Warner Bros. Leavesden studio in the UK later this year as it marches towards its September 2026 release date. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clayface will be a 'stripped down movie', with a budget of approximately $40 million. DC Studios boss and Superman director James Gunn recently opened up on his vision for the wider cinematic universe, and insisted there can't be a set style or genre across each film. He told CBS Mornings: "We've got Clayface, which is a totally different thing. Although it's in the same universe, it's a complete horror film. "That's one of the things we want to do. There's not a company style. It's not like every movie is going to be like Superman. "The artists — the directors and the writers — each one will bring their own sense to it… "That's what we want to bring to the films because we don't want people to get bored. We want to invigorate people." Gunn and fellow DC Studios chief Peter Safran will produce Clayface, along with Lynn Harris and The Batman filmmaker Matt Reeves, while Chantal Nong will executive produce. Doctor Sleep director Mike Flanagan wrote the first version of the screenplay, with Hossein Amini pitching with additional drafts.
