Nicholas Hoult attends Superman premiere in Saint Laurent look

Express Tribune5 days ago
Nicholas Hoult appeared at the Superman premiere in Los Angeles dressed in a coordinated look from Saint Laurent's Fall 2025 menswear collection, styled by Jason Bolden.
The outfit featured a structured black blazer paired with leather trousers, worn with a white shirt, black patent boots, and layered accessories including David Yurman rings and a Jaeger-LeCoultre watch.
According to Bolden, the choice of outfit was directly inspired by Hoult's role as Lex Luthor.
'The collection just spoke to his character—tough and classic,' he said. 'We also wanted to nod to the past Lex Luthors by playing with classic suiting but with a modern approach.'
Hoult's platinum blond buzzcut, which he first showed during an earlier Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance, remained part of the look.
The hair change has been connected to his upcoming role in the film How to Rob a Bank.
A behind-the-scenes photo diary shared by Vogue showed moments from Hoult's preparation, including his own description of the leather trousers as 'an experiment in chafing.'
As part of the film's global press tour, Hoult has also been seen in pieces by Tom Ford, Haider Ackermann, Celine, Bottega Veneta, and Prada, maintaining a consistent focus on tailored, high-fashion menswear.

Rihanna's son Riot steals the spotlight in custom Dior at 'Smurfs' LA premiere

Rihanna's 23-moth old son, Riot Rose Mayers, made a standout fashion statement at the Smurfs Los Angeles premiere , wearing a custom Dior look designed especially for the occasion. The toddler accompanied his mother and older brother RZA at the Paramount Theater, as she celebrated her voice role as Smurfette in the new animated film. While Rihanna stunned in a chocolate brown Saint Laurent ensemble, complete with a lace-trimmed top, leather jacket, and full skirt, it was Riot who caught attention with his designer outfit. The look featured a mini tailored green jacket and trousers from the Spring 2026 Dior Men collection by Jonathan Anderson, making him one of the youngest stars to wear a couture piece on a major red carpet. The event was a family affair as the pregnant singer walked the carpet with both children. Her partner, A$AP Rocky, was not in attendance for the LA premiere, though the couple appeared together at the world premiere in Brussels last month. During the Los Angeles event, Riot and RZA also had a moment with Papa Smurf, taking part in the film's character meet-and-greet as cameras captured the scene. Rihanna recently released a track titled 'Friend of Mine' and has hinted at more new material. In the Smurfs movie, she leads the voice cast alongside James Corden, Nick Offerman, Amy Sedaris, Daniel Levy, Sandra Oh, Octavia Spencer, and others.

New ‘Superman' muscles to $217 million at global box office

LOS ANGELES: A new 'Superman' movie from Warner Bros (WBD.O), opens new tab hauled in an estimated $122 million to lead weekend box office charts in the United States and Canada, a strong domestic debut that kicked off a new era for DC comic book heroes on the big screen. The movie that introduces David Corenswet as the Man of Steel added $95 million in international markets for global ticket sales expected to reach $217 million through Sunday, Warner Bros said. 'Superman' is a reboot of the movie franchise based on the hero who debuted in comic books in 1938. The film's performance is critical to the future of Warner Bros and its DC Studios division. Despite a stable of iconic characters including Batman and Wonder Woman, DC has not been able to match the box office power of Walt Disney's (DIS.N), opens new tab Marvel superhero films. The new 'Superman' was written and directed by James Gunn, the filmmaker known for three offbeat 'Guardians of the Galaxy' movies for Marvel. Gunn was tapped as co-CEO of DC Studios in 2022, alongside producer Peter Safran, and billed as the hero who could bring consistent success to its film and TV projects. 'Superman' is meant to set the stage for coming DC films including a 'Supergirl' movie next summer and future Batman and Wonder Woman films. 'The DC vision is clear, the momentum is real, and I couldn't be more excited for what's ahead,' Warner Bros Discovery Chief Executive David Zaslav said in a statement. 'Superman' is one of only three films to debut with more than $100 million in domestic ticket sales in 2025 as moviegoing lingers below pre-pandemic levels. 'The domestic number is great. You can't beat a top three opening of the year,' Jeff Bock, senior box office analyst at Exhibitor Relations Co, said of the 'Superman' results. He called the international ticket sales 'troubling' for a big-budget action movie. The film cost $225 million to make, according to a source with knowledge of the budget. Jeff Goldstein, president of global distribution at Warner Bros., said the studio was thrilled with the domestic response and that the movie about an American icon performed as expected overseas. 'We always knew that this would be bigger in the U.S. than international,' Goldstein said. 'Superman has always been very American-centric.' Gunn's take on the character earned positive reviews from critics. Eighty-two percent of reviews collected on the Rotten Tomatoes website gave the film a thumbs up. Corenswet stars opposite 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' actor Rachel Brosnahan as journalist Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as villain Lex Luthor. After box office misfires last year including 'Furiosa' and 'Joker: Folie à Deux,' Warner Bros has notched six No. 1 openings in 2025. The studio boasts this year's highest domestic opening with 'A Minecraft Movie,' which pulled in $162.8 million over its first three days in April. The studio also has delivered hits with 'Sinners,' 'Final Destination Bloodlines' and 'F1.' Some conservative commentators objected to 'Superman' when Gunn said the movie about a refugee from another planet was an immigrant story. U.S. President Donald Trump posted a meme that showed his face in place of Corenswet's on a Superman poster. The director and stars said the film was a tale about kindness and no political message was intended. 'It's just a movie guys,' actor Nathan Fillion, who plays Green Lantern, told Variety at the film's Los Angeles premiere. Year-to-date ticket sales for all movies in the U.S. and Canada hovered 15% above 2024 but 24% below the pre-COVID times of 2019.

Social media interprets new Superman movie as allegory for Israel's ongoing genocide of Palestinians

James Gunn's new Superman film is stirring online debate as some viewers interpret scenes as political commentary on real-world conflicts, particularly the Gaza situation While the film avoids naming any specific real life nations, one scene—showing armed forces attacking civilians across a border with children in danger—has been widely interpreted as a reference to the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Viewers have taken to social media to voice their reactions, with many suggesting the film carries a strong political message. I really wasn't expecting much and chalked it up to hype, or a liberal application of the Israel analogy to any imperialist expansion war. But the movie quite clearly recreates visuals from the 2018 Gaza border protests. Superman is antizionist and leaves no room for doubt — logan (@venividivacey) July 11, 2025 Social media users have responded with polarized views. One user wrote on X, 'Y'all were not kidding about how anti-Israel and pro-Palestine that Superman movie was, and they were not slick with it AT ALL.' Another added, 'Superman was so openly anti-Israel and god it was so good.' A third commented, 'I really like the anti-Israel sentiment from Superman, and now I know James Gunn is always standing on business.' people who said superman is anti Israel were not really lying but it's all just allegory again with names of places swapped. I mean I knew they wouldnt go as far as calling out Israel with its name but its still right in your face and not subtle. basically #superman is hamas — ‎ 🎧 (@vizualdiary) July 12, 2025 Many suggesting that Superman's actions and the fictional settings of Boravia and Jarhanpur resemble real-world parallels to Israel and Palestine. While neither the filmmakers nor Warner Bros. have explicitly confirmed any such allegory, audiences have noted that the film appears to express clear empathy for oppressed civilians, particularly children, under siege. They were NOT KIDDING when they said Superman is anti israel — Captain Paste 🇵🇸 (@thermocentric) July 9, 2025 Some described the film as a 'major cultural moment,' highlighting the boldness of a mainstream studio release appearing to take a stance on such a contentious issue. Comments across platforms noted the film's strong pro-immigrant messaging and its unflinching portrayal of violence against civilians, which many interpreted as aligned with the plight of Palestinians. Director James Gunn has previously emphasized that his Superman is an immigrant story rooted in values of justice, morality, and empathy — themes he said reflect the politics of contemporary America. This framing has further fueled audience interpretations of the character siding with marginalized and oppressed communities. Social media posts expressed both surprise and gratitude that a major studio film took this approach. Some users called it the 'most obvious pro-Palestine content' seen in a blockbuster, while others hoped it would raise awareness about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
