Aldine Westfield crash: 1 dead after near head-on collision, 4 hospitalized
The Brief
A woman was pronounced dead after a major crash on Aldine Westfield late Sunday evening.
The woman nearly collided head-on with a vehicle driven by a husband, his wife, and two kids.
Harris County investigators are trying to determine what caused the crash.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A deadly crash in north Houston involving a family is being investigated by Harris County Sheriff's Office Monday morning.
What we know
HCSO Sergeant Bondurant reports two vehicles almost got into a head-on crash in the 12300 block of Aldine Westfield.
Deputies arrived on the scene around 9:30 p.m. and EMS pronounced the woman in a Chevrolet Malibu dead at the scene.
The second vehicle involved, a tan Cadillac Escalade, had a husband, wife, and two juvenile children inside. They were all taken to nearby hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
According to Sgt. Bondurant, witnesses reported the Malibu was driving without headlights and was swerving on the road.

Mason man renovates memorial for murdered 7-year-old boy
WILLIAMSTON, Mich. (WLNS) — Almost 20 years after the tragic murder of 7-year-old Ricky Holland, a Mason man has now renovated the young boy's memorial with the hope of keeping his memory alive. Ricky Holland's memorial sits on the side of the road, near the intersection of Williamston Rd. and Ewers Rd, now with a fresh new coat of paint and flowers. Holland went missing back in July of 2005. After months of searching, his body was finally found in the Dansville State Game Area. His adoptive parents, Lisa and Tom Holland, were arrested for the murder and sentenced to prison. Michigan native, Kyle Ammerman, says while driving home, he spotted the old cross, and wanted to help. 'It's an honor for me to do it. I was an EMS. You see a lot of tragedies in the area. I'm doing this out of love for the families and for the people who have passed away,' said Kyle Ammerman. He says the memorial was severely damaged. 'It was just a plain white cross. It had a lot of damage to it. The cross piece was all rotted,' said Ammerman. 'So, I decided to put a new cross piece in, paint it up.' Ammerman says he was in Mason when he first heard about the case. 'I was watching the news. Followed it on a daily basis,' said Ammerman. 'A lot of volunteers searched for this little boy. Parents, anybody that was available.' He says he even remembered the day Holland's body was found. 'That dreadful day. That will never go away,' said Ammerman. So, he does all he can to make sure no one forgets about seven-year-old Ricky Holland. 'It's sad that there are people out there that would do this to an innocent child, and finally be found guilty of what they did,' said Holland. The Brief A wanted felon driving a spray-painted car was arrested after a brief pursuit, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. During the chase, HCSO says 29-year-old James Rye Sr. did not change speeds and intentionally made no efforts to stop. Deputies used a rolling roadblock to make the arrest and Rye was taken into custody without incident. TAMPA, Fla. - A wanted felon was taken into custody on North Park Road after a brief chase on Sunday afternoon with Hillsborough County deputies. Video shows the suspect driving away from law enforcement in a red vehicle that was partially spray-painted black to avoid detection. 83-year-old woman killed in Salem Township crash caused by unlicensed driver: OSHP
[Watch in the player above: What to do if you witness a crash] NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio (WJW) — A driver with a suspended license caused a crash that hospitalized an 85-year-old man and an 83-year-old woman in another car, according to state troopers. The 83-year-old woman later died of her injuries, according to a Monday news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The crash happened at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, on U.S. Route 36, near the entrance ramp to Interstate 77 South, in Salem Township, Tuscarawas County, according to the release. 20-year-old Ashtabula man killed in weekend Painesville shooting A 26-year-old Cambridge man driving a Chevrolet Malibu southwest on U.S. Route 36 attempted a left turn onto the entrance ramp for I-77 and failed to yield to an oncoming Ford Fusion, according to the report. The Fusion struck the passenger side of the Malibu. The 85-year-old driver of the Fusion and his passenger, an 83-year-old woman, were transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Both ended up in an intensive care unit at Akron General Hospital, according to the release. The 83-year-old woman, identified as Judy K. Mizer, of West Lafayette, died of her injuries on Saturday, June 7, according to the patrol. The driver of the Malibu, who troopers said caused the crash, suffered only minor injuries, according to the release.
