Ayr death probe enters third day as investigation continues
An investigation into the death of man in an Ayr flat over the weekend has entered its third day.
Police are treating the death of the 42-year-old man on Saturday night, July 5, as suspicious.
However, it is believed that the incident is NOT being treated as linked to the attempted murder of a 39-year-old man in a nearby street last month.
Both incidents happened in the Whitletts area of the town and a strong police presence remains in the area following events on Saturday.
Emergency services were called to Glenmuir Place in Ayr at around 8.10pm on Saturday night, July 5 after the 42-year-old man was found seriously injured.
He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The area has been cordoned off for days since as police try to establish what happened.
Ayr MSP Siobhian Brown has said the incident was deeply distressing for the community.
Speaking on Sunday, July 6, Detective Inspector Steven Slater, of the Major Investigation Team, said: 'Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died at this very difficult time. They are being supported by specialist officers.
'Officers are carrying out several lines of enquiry and there will be a continued visible police presence in the area. Anyone with concerns can speak to these officers.
'If you were in the area at the time of this incident and saw anything that could assist with our investigation then please get in touch, no matter how small that piece of information might be.
'In particular, I am asking people to check private CCTV or doorbell footage and see if anything has been captured that could be important. Likewise, if you were driving in the area and have dash-cam that could assist, please contact us.'
Anyone who can assist is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3237 of July 5, or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
A dedicated Major Incident Public Portal has also been set up and information can be passed anonymously on the following link: https://orlo.uk/nPZQZ
On June 17, a 39-year-old man was found injured on nearby Braeside Road and was taken to hospital for treatment.
A 35-year-old man has since been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with the incident.
