Murder investigation launched after man, 42, dies in flat

A murder investigation has been launched three days after a man died in a flat in Ayr. On Saturday, police were called to reports of a man found seriously injured at a property on Glenmuir Place around 8.10pm. Mark Blackwood was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are now treating the 42-year-old's death as murder and a major investigation is under way. Officers are supporting his family and have asked that their privacy be respected. Police Scotland have confirmed that an extensive investigation is ongoing and additional officers will remain in the area. Detective inspector Steven Slater said: 'Our thoughts are with Mark's family and friends at this very difficult time. 'It is vital that we get answers for them and we are fully committed to this. 'An extensive investigation is ongoing and officers are following a number of lines of enquiry. 'Additional officers remain in the area, and I would encourage anyone who has concerns, or any information, to approach them. 'I continue to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything that could assist with our investigation to get in touch by contacting Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 3237 of July 5, 2025.' Police have launched a murder probe in Ayr after a man was allegedly stabbed to death. Mark Blackwood was found seriously injured around 8.10pm on Saturday evening at flats in Glenmuir Place following a 'disturbance'.Paramedics including an air ambulance rushed to the street but the 42-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. ‌ A post-mortem has since been carried out. Detectives now treating his death as murder. ‌ Extensive enquiries are being carried with officers using specialist resources. The Record told on Saturday evening how dozens of police units swarmed the street as they launched manhunt for a suspect. Armed cops and sniffer dogs were deployed as part of the huge response. They swarmed the residential area earlier this evening. "A man has been stabbed. There was an air ambulance that landed on a nearby field. It left shortly after. "More police began to arrive all over the area and started knocking doors in. There was armed response officers with shields at an address on Braeside Road. There's now sniffer dog units out as well. "They are clearly looking for someone." ‌ Detectives say they are probing a number of lines of enquiry. A police presence is set to remain in the area. Investigations continue into the death of a 42-year-old man in Ayr on Saturday night, July 5 and it is understood police are not linking the incident with a nearby attempted murder last month. An investigation into the death of man in an Ayr flat over the weekend has entered its third day. Police are treating the death of the 42-year-old man on Saturday night, July 5, as suspicious. ‌ However, it is believed that the incident is NOT being treated as linked to the attempted murder of a 39-year-old man in a nearby street last month. ‌ Both incidents happened in the Whitletts area of the town and a strong police presence remains in the area following events on Saturday. Emergency services were called to Glenmuir Place in Ayr at around 8.10pm on Saturday night, July 5 after the 42-year-old man was found seriously injured. He was later pronounced dead at the scene. The area has been cordoned off for days since as police try to establish what happened. ‌ Ayr MSP Siobhian Brown has said the incident was deeply distressing for the community. Speaking on Sunday, July 6, Detective Inspector Steven Slater, of the Major Investigation Team, said: 'Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died at this very difficult time. They are being supported by specialist officers. ‌ 'Officers are carrying out several lines of enquiry and there will be a continued visible police presence in the area. Anyone with concerns can speak to these officers. 'If you were in the area at the time of this incident and saw anything that could assist with our investigation then please get in touch, no matter how small that piece of information might be. ‌ 'In particular, I am asking people to check private CCTV or doorbell footage and see if anything has been captured that could be important. Likewise, if you were driving in the area and have dash-cam that could assist, please contact us.' A 35-year-old man has since been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with the incident.
