Texas A&M DL coach recently visited elite 2026 5-star DL, who will visit in June
Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class will continue to grow in the coming months, starting this summer when five-star OL/DL Lamar Brown returns to College Station on June 13. Throughout Brown's recruiting process, coach Mike Elko and defensive line coaches Sean Spencer and Tony Jerod-Eddie have continued to visit the Louisiana-based prospect, including Spencer's visit on Monday.
During Brown's Track & Field meet, representing University Lab High School, Spencer watched on as the elite multi-sport athlete did his thing, as the Aggies are directly competing with the LSU Tigers down the stretch, which isn't surprising given the Tigers' historical success at keeping high ranking prospects in-state. Brown's relationship with both D-line coaches has been strengthened over the last year, which was proven during his recent interview with LSU reported Matt Moscono.
'There's not a day I don't talk to them,' Brown said. 'Coach (Mike) Elko, I talk to him every week. The D-line coach, Coach Tony (Jerod-Eddie), Coach (Sean Spencer), I just got off the phone with them not too long ago. That's three great people. Just great relationship with them ever since they started recruiting me. I've been down there a few times. I usually don't go to a lot of schools that much out of state, but that's a place I feel comfortable at myself. My parents feel comfortable there, honestly. The staff, the people, it's a great place.'
While Brown is a slight favorite to land with the Tigers, the Aggies are gaining steam, as a commitment from the five-star would put A&M's 2026 class over the top and closer to ending with the No. 1-ranked cycle. Before his official visit, Brown's college position is still up for debate depending on the program he chooses, but for Elko and his staff, his future with Texas A&M is on the defensive line.
According to 247Sports Composite, Brown is currently positioned as the 10th-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, the No. 1-ranked IOL, and the No. 1-ranked prospect in Louisiana.

Kellen Moore receives first massive blow as head Coach of New Orleans Saints

Kellen Moore receives first massive blow as head Coach of New Orleans Saints originally appeared on The Sporting News It certainly was not the dream start first-year head coach Kellen Moore wanted. Taking over for the fired Dennis Allen, he took his first major loss on Tuesday. The New Orleans Saints have been dealt a devastating setback just weeks before the regular season kicks off. Veteran center Will Clapp, a New Orleans native and former LSU standout, has been ruled out for the entire 2025 season after suffering a severe foot injury that requires surgery. The injury occurred early in Sunday's preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, with Clapp being carted off during the Saints' first offensive series. Will Clapp to miss the entire 2025 season This loss is especially painful for the Saints' offensive line depth. Clapp was stepping in for starting center Erik McCoy, who was already dealing with his own injury issues. Now, the Saints must rely on unproven depth, with undrafted rookie Torricelli Simpkins thrust into the role. For a team looking to bounce back from recent struggles, losing an experienced interior lineman is a major obstacle, especially given the importance of offensive line continuity in both protecting the quarterback and establishing the run game. MORE: Kyle Shanahan gives update on a key offensive star injury A team already facing an uphill battle The Saints' 2024 season was one of inconsistency and frustration. Despite boasting a defense that kept them in most games, the offense often sputtered, plagued by injuries, shaky pass protection, and an inability to find rhythm in the run game. The team finished outside of playoff contention, leaving fans and analysts wondering if the current roster makeup was enough to compete in the NFC South. Now, heading into 2025, optimism has taken another hit. Training camp injuries are always tough, but losing a veteran center, someone familiar with the playbook, protections, and snap cadence, means the Saints' offense will have to make adjustments on the fly. In a division where every win will matter, the margin for error is now even thinner. Unless their young replacements can step up quickly, this could be the kind of preseason blow that lingers well into the regular season. Is Texas becoming new Alabama? The Athletic says Longhorns becoming CFB's premier program

For over a decade, the Alabama Crimson Tide ruled college football. Coach Nick Saban seemingly got all the best players en route to an astounding six national championships. But the college football power structure always shifts eventually. Has Texas replaced Alabama on top of college football's highest perch? The Athletic says the Longhorns have. Texas' first year in the SEC was kind of a watershed moment for Texas coach Steve Sarkisian and the program he's building in Austin. Only Georgia prevented Texas from running through the league last year. A conference that was supposed to humble the Longhorns made them stronger. Now, armed with one of the best quarterback recruits of all time, Sark looks to complete the mission at UT and win the national championship ... either this year or next. But with a title or not, it appears to Ralph D. Russo of The Athletic that Texas is the new CFB super power. "Texas is becoming the new Alabama. No, that doesn't mean the Longhorns are going to rattle off a half-dozen titles in the next decade. But this is the season Texas puts its staying power on display. There is always another draft pick. There is always another All-American. The talent conveyor belt is fully operational — and well-funded. The days of stumbling as a 12-point favorite at home appear to be over. Much like Kirby Smart did when he left Saban and Alabama to take over at Georgia, Sarkisian implemented the Bama blueprint at a school with more resources and easier access to talent than Saban's old school, building a program to rival the Tide." - Ralph D. Russo of The Athletic After serving as Saban's offensive coordinator, Sark has brought the Saban way to Texas. No one could evolve with the changing climate in college football better than Saban for over a decade. Much of Texas' success can be attributed to how Texas implements NIL. It's just just having money. Texas leads the nation in managing NIL. The Texas One Fund has at least 20 sponsorship partners, including Texas-based Benchmark Bank. 'The area to differentiate any university is, how many outside — call it true NIL or whatever you want to call it — how many of those opportunities are out there for student-athletes? And having the best model not only is good for your university and you can recruit better and win, but it's also good for kids to get opportunities. So our plan is to continue on that whole for-profit space, to get as many opportunities as we can for our student-athletes in the for-profit brand space.' - Patrick 'Wheels' Smith, president of Texas One Fund The Saban way also turns players that might think they've "made it" by getting a scholarship and NIL funds to play at a program like Texas into players obsessed with winning that hate losing. 'Excellence is exhausting, but it's worth it. (The players) see the success of their peers, and they're like, I want that, you know? The Outland trophies, the Thorpe awards, the All-Americans, the first-round picks, the draft picks, the College Football Playoffs. The on-the-cusp-of-a-national-championship. I want that. So how do I get there? It's pretty simple. The only thing I just keep looking for is, is there a complacency? Because complacency is, that'll get you. And we're fortunate. We've got no room to be complacent, because we haven't won the thing yet, you know?' - Texas coach Steve Sarkisian To put the crown jewel on his achievement in Austin, Sark needs to win a title. Based on its first preseason No. 1 ranking in program history, it could happen this year. Follow us on X/Twitter at @LonghornsWire.

Auburn receives votes in first AP Poll of season

The Auburn Tigers may enter the 2025 season with higher expectations in-house, but the voters around the country, at least for the time being, don't see Hugh Freeze's squad as a top 25 contender. Auburn was unranked in the first AP Poll of the college football season, marking the fifth straight year the Tigers have failed to crack the top 25. Auburn was listed among the programs that received votes, but their 10 nods were well behind the likes of BYU (156), Utah (144), and opening opponent Baylor (132) in the race to receive a ranking. The Tigers were one of 24 teams to receive at least one vote in the initial poll. Hugh Freeze's team was also one of only two SEC programs (Missouri, 33) to receive votes without earning a spot in the top 25. 10 other programs in the conference were awarded a spot in the top 25, with Texas (1) leading the way in front of Georgia (5), Alabama (8), LSU (9), South Carolina (13), Florida (15), Oklahoma (18), Texas A&M (19), Ole Miss (21), and Tennessee (24). The 10 ranked SEC programs led the way among all conferences, with the BIG 10 (6) coming in a distant second. While Auburn surely is disappointed with their lack of a ranking in either the AP or Coaches Poll, the Tigers could find themselves in the top 25 with an opening night win on the road against Baylor followed by a pair of victories against Ball State and South Alabama at home.
