Nitish Kumar Inaugurates Bihar's First Double-Decker Flyover In Patna

In a major boost to Bihar's urban infrastructure, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday inaugurated the state's first double-decker flyover in Patna, built at a cost of Rs 422 crore.
The structure, hailed as a landmark in the city's smart mobility mission, aims to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the capital.
Constructed along Ashoka Rajpath, the multi-tier flyover introduces a three-level traffic system -- the first of its kind in Bihar.
Tier 1 (Lower Deck) includes a 1.45 km stretch from Patna College to BN College. Tier 2 (Upper Deck) has a 2.2 km corridor from Kargil Chowk to Shatabdi Dwar, passing Patna Science College.
Ground Level Service Road is 90 per cent complete, providing additional support for surface traffic.
The flyover links key urban nodes, including the Patna Metro Rail Project and JP Ganga Path, and is expected to significantly decongest high-traffic areas such as PMCH, Science College, and Patna University.
It also facilitates smoother travel for commuters from the Mahatma Gandhi Setu, Kankarbagh, and nearby areas.
Integrated with broader urban development plans, the corridor connects to Bakarganj, Nala Road, multi-level parking facilities, and vital institutions, benefitting students, medical professionals, traders, and daily commuters alike.
Calling it "a confluence of technology, management, and aesthetics," Nitish Kumar said the project represents Bihar's evolving identity.
"This is not just a bridge, but a vision. It will transform city commuting and serve as a model for urban infrastructure across the state," he said at the inauguration.
The Kargil Chowk -- Science College stretch, in particular, is expected to revolutionize mobility in central Patna, reducing travel time and improving emergency response access in the vicinity of major hospitals and colleges.
This landmark project marks a significant milestone in Patna's smart city journey and reflects Bihar's growing emphasis on modern, future-ready infrastructure.

Uttarakhand pays Rs 19.5 crore to families affected by wildlife conflicts
Dehradun: Uttarakhand has disbursed Rs 19.5 crore in compensation to families affected by human-wildlife conflict in the 2024–25 financial year, officials said at the 21st meeting of the state wildlife board in Dehradun on Thursday. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami chaired the meeting and directed forest department officials to focus on both conservation and linking forest wealth to local livelihoods. Dhami asked the department to prepare a 10-year plan to promote eco-tourism near forest areas and suggested developing a digital tracking system for real-time monitoring of conflict incidents and faster compensation payouts. "Eco-tourism activities must be scaled up near forest zones, while also ensuring prompt relief to those impacted by wildlife encounters," Dhami said. He also instructed authorities to expedite the zoo and safari project in Haldwani and fast-track the renovation of Chaurasi Kutiya in Rishikesh. He called for improved maintenance of forest rest houses to attract more tourists and increase revenue. He further asked the forest and finance departments to work jointly on integrating forest resources with livelihoods. These proposals will now be sent to the National Board for Wildlife for final clearance. The board also granted in-principle approval for managing the Rudranath pilgrimage route through the Eco Development Committee (EDC) and setting up a mini transit treatment centre under the Kedarnath wildlife division in Gopeshwar. Officials from the forest department said 22 major wildlife-related projects received approval from the National Board for Wildlife since the previous meeting. They also said over 75,000 monkeys were sterilised in the past three years under the state's monkey population control programme, with a further target of 40,000 set for 2024–25 across 27 forest divisions. Responding to a directive issued by the CM in the last meeting, divisional forest officers are now visiting conflict sites and disbursing compensation directly to affected families, officials confirmed. The board also noted that four new eco-tourism zones have been established this year as part of the govt's wider efforts to promote sustainable tourism and boost local economies. Speaking at the meeting, forest minister Subodh Uniyal said, "Uttarakhand is a state rich in biodiversity. We must continue to sustainably utilise our forest resources and find ways to integrate them with community livelihoods. Air India to operate special relief flights from Delhi, Mumbai for families of crash victims
New Delhi: In a compassionate move to assist the families of victims affected by the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171, the airline on Thursday announced two special relief flights -- one each from Delhi and Mumbai -- to Ahmedabad. These flights are meant to bring the next of kin of passengers and Air India staff to the crash site and nearby hospitals. According to the airline's post on X, the first relief flight from Delhi (IX1555) will depart at 11 p.m. on Thursday, followed by the return flight (IX1556) from Ahmedabad at 1.10 a.m. on June 13. From Mumbai, flight AI1402 will also depart at 11 p.m., and the return flight AI1409 is scheduled for 1.15 a.m. "Families and relatives in Delhi and Mumbai who wish to travel can contact the dedicated hotline at 1800 5691 444," the airline said in a post on social media platform X. For those flying in from international locations, Air India has set up a separate helpline at +91 8062779200. The relief flights come as part of a broader support effort following Thursday's devastating incident. The flight was being operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and was commanded by Captain Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar. Earlier in the day, Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran announced financial support of Rs 1 crore for the family of each person who lost their life. "No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, and with those who have been injured," Chandrasekaran said. The company also promised to cover medical expenses for the injured and help construct a new hostel at B.J. Medical College as part of its long-term support plan. 'This heart-wrenching incident has brought immense grief to countless families, and our thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones,' said Noel Tata, Chairman of Tata Trusts.
