Honda Civic Type R Ultimate Edition Marks European Sales Exit

Honda Civic Type R Ultimate Edition Marks European Sales Exit

Car and Driver06-06-2025
The Honda Civic Type R will no longer be sold in Europe after next year.
Honda's hottest hatch is leaving the market due to emission rules, but it's bidding farewell with the limited-volume Ultimate Edition.
Honda will sell 40 copies of the CTR Ultimate, which gets red exterior decals and various carbon-fiber trim pieces.
If you live in Europe and are considering buying a new Honda Civic Type R, you may want to act fast. Honda has announced that it will stop selling the hot hatch in the market next year. To say goodbye to Europeans, the CTR is getting a special send-off in the form of the Ultimate Edition.
Farewell, Civic Type R
Why is the Civic Type R exiting Europe? Honda says the decision was due to "European legislation," meaning the racy hatchback's 324-hp turbo four is too rich for the region's emission rules. That means Honda will sell 40 Ultimate Editions along with the rest of the CTR inventory, which should run out in 2026.

The Ultimate treatment includes a red stripe that runs down the middle of the hood. It's paired with red decals on the car's body sides that fade into hashes. The black-painted roof contrasts with the CTR's classic Championship White paint, which is the only color you can get on the Ultimate Edition. As the Euro version of the ultimate Civic drives into the sunset, an exclusive carbon-fiber wing will adorn its rear spoiler.
Special CTR Trinkets
Inside, the Type R's red carpet and fantastic front seats remain, but Honda has added more ambient lighting as well as carbon-fiber trim. The latter material graces the hatch's center-console panel and door-sill plaques. And when you open the front doors, the Type R logo is illuminated onto the ground. Each of the 40 Ultimate cars will also come with a gift box with an individually numbered emblem.

Honda hasn't said how much the Civic Type R Ultimate Edition will cost, but considering it's only building 40 of them, the collector cars will likely come with a sizable premium. The upcharge will also include a special car cover, floor mats, and a carbon key ring. Meanwhile, those of us in the States might miss out on some desirable European-only models, but at least we can still buy a new Civic Type R for the foreseeable future.

An Award-Winning, First-of-Its-Kind Honda Motorcycle Is Finally Coming to Market

As speculation swirls about the Concept that just garnered Red Dot kudos, the brand says a production version will roll out early next year. From cruisers to ADVs, street bikes to touring motos — not to mention tech like e-clutch and DCT — Honda has long been a leader in many corners of the two-wheeled world. Which is why it's kind of surprising that the red brand has yet to release a true electric motorcycle. Sure, there was the Wuyang-Honda E-Vo a couple months ago, but that one comes with so many caveats it doesn't really count. Regardless, it appears Honda is finally getting serious about this growing category. The brand recently announced not only that its long-simmering EV Fun Concept won a big award but also that it's coming to life. Awash in accolades I don't want to say Honda is being coy about the EV Fun Concept, which itself is no secret, having been showcased at EICMA last fall. However, the press release sandwiched that news between an announcement that the Fastport eQuad micromobility vehicle had won a Red Dot Best of the Best award and that the concept movie for the Honda V3 motorcycle engine had also been honored. Both of those kudos are notable — as is the scooter-like EV Urban Concept also garnering Red Dot recognition — but for serious two-wheeled enthusiasts, the big news concerns the electric sportbike. Especially because of this loaded sentence: 'The production model based on this concept model will be a naked sports model equivalent to a mid-sized (ICE) motorcycle and is scheduled to go on sale before the end of the current fiscal year (ending March 31, 2026) as the first Honda electric sports model equipped with a fixed battery.' Hype(d) machine Adding fuel to this fire is a teaser video Honda dropped a couple weeks ago, one that appears to show an updated version of the Concept and telling viewers to 'be the wind' — and also to stay tuned for more news on September 2. What jumps out in the 15-second clip? Among other things, a new TFT display, a revised triple clamp and a busier left-hand switchgear. Those features round out a great-looking streetfighter Honda itself touts for 'quiet yet overwhelming acceleration,' a 'slim, easy-to-manage chassis package' and 'a new emotional experience that is very different to internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles.' One downer, as RideApart points out, is a claimed 62 miles of range from the fixed battery. That's a bummer considering the brand is already deploying its Mobile Power Pack in all sorts of vehicles. A swappable power source would not only enable more miles but also be appealing to apartment dwellers who may lack a garage in which to charge the bike overnight. On that front, electric-only brands such as Maven — not to mention, believe it or not, Harley-Davidson — could eat Honda's lunch with removable batteries. That being said, we're talking about Honda and a bike that just won a major design award. Given the brand's pedigree, production capability, dealer network and general chutzpah, I'd be shocked if what actually rolls out early next year isn't pretty damn impressive. Autolus Therapeutics sees cash runway to launch, commercialization of obe-cel

Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities at June 30, 2025, totalled $454.3 million, as compared to $588.0 million at December 31, 2024. The decrease was primarily driven by net cash used in operating activities and impacted by a delayed cash receipt of approximately $21.7 million in R&D tax credit expected from the UK HMRC, which was expected to be received during the six months ended June 30, 2025. Autolus estimates that, with its current cash and cash equivalents and marketable securities, the Company is well capitalized to drive the launch and commercialization of obe-cel in r/r B-ALL and to obtain data in the LN pivotal trial and MS Phase 1 trial. Motor insurers charge into EV market as competition accelerates

Motor insurers are ramping up competition in the electric vehicle (EV) sector as battery-electric models move further into the mainstream, according to new analysis from Consumer Intelligence. Its data shows that 11 new insurance products began quoting for EVs on a major price comparison website in 2024, compared with just three or four for petrol, diesel or hybrid models. New offerings increasingly include tailored features such as charging equipment cover, EV-specific breakdown support and even carbon offsetting options. The shift in underwriting appetite comes amid buoyant sales. Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) figures reveal that new BEV registrations rose 35.2% in the first four months of 2025 versus the same period last year, while petrol sales dropped 10% and diesel fell 13.2%. After sharp premium rises in 2023, rates are now easing as repair network capacity expands, turnround times improve, and richer claims data allows for more accurate pricing. According to Consumer Intelligence, the risk profiles of EV drivers are now converging with petrol and diesel motorists. In some cases, insurers have cut EV premiums by up to 18%. One insurer increased its EV quotability by 40 percentage points, gaining a 12% rise in its share of the top five quote positions. EV quotability is the frequency with which an insurer returns a valid price for an electric vehicle on a price comparison site, It is a key measure of underwriting appetite and market availability. However, EV premiums remain comparatively high, reflecting costlier claims caused by specialist repair needs and battery complexities. Regional variation persists, with April prices higher in the South East than the North West due to differences in congestion, theft and claims rates. 'As BEVs become more mainstream, insurers are no longer treating them as niche risks,' said Ian Hughes, chief executive of Consumer Intelligence. 'That's creating space for more confident, competitive pricing. While sales remain just short of the Zero Emission Vehicle mandate target of 22%, the trajectory is unmistakable — the shift is accelerating and insurers are responding.'
