Himachal seeks separate e-way bill for tracking of narcotic substances under GST
An official said that a committee was being constituted under the chairmanship of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) to oversee the operations of licensed pharmaceutical companies dealing in narcotic formulations. This committee will include officers from the Excise Department, Police, and Drug Control Authority, and will be tasked with ensuring compliance with regulatory norms and preventing misuse of narcotic substances.
To further enhance traceability, the state government has formally approached the GST Council, seeking the introduction of a dedicated e-way bill mechanism specifically for narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. This step is expected to enable real-time monitoring of their movement across the supply chain, thereby tightening control at every stage.
In addition, the Department of State Taxes and Excise has imposed quantity restrictions on the handling of narcotic drugs by license holders. This measure is intended to minimise the risk of excess stock being diverted for illegal use.
The official further added that the government was currently revising the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Rules, 1989, and updating the Integrated Drug Prevention Policy, aiming to strengthen the overall legal and administrative framework for drug control in the state.

Sentencing juvenile to life imprisonment illegal, says Karnataka HC
BENGALURU: Stating that sentencing a juvenile to life imprisonment by wrongly treating him as an adult by a sessions court is illegal, the Karnataka High Court directed the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) to award Rs 50,000 compensation to him as per Rule 6 of the Karnataka State Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Rules, 2025. The accused spent 13 years in prison as against serving three years at a special home, the high court said. The question of referring the case to JJB for awarding a sentence does not arise as he has undergone a sentence of graver measure, which has to be treated as subsumed under any sentence that could have been passed under Section 15 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act of 2000. A division bench of Justices S Sunil Dutt Yadav and Ramachandra D Huddar passed the order, while disposing of an appeal filed by Channappa, who was a juvenile at the time of the murder of Bheemaraya in Yadgir district in 2011.

Cordon & search operation held in Chittoor
Chittoor: Prioritising public safety and security, Chittoor police carried out a large-scale Cordon & Search operation to curb crimes and illegal transportation on Saturday. Acting on the instructions of Additional SP (Operations) and in-charge Admin SR Rajasekhar Raju, police officials and staff coordinated efforts to conduct the operation in various parts of the district. During the checks, officers inspected suspicious individuals, verified vehicle documents, monitored the movements of known offenders, and took preventive measures against illegal transport activities. In the operation, police seized 11 two-wheelers and 30 NDPS packets, and took one person into custody. Officials stated that the primary aim of these inspections is to prevent crimes before they occur and to strengthen the sense of security among the public. They said that making the police presence visible in all areas would help deter anti-social activities. Citizens were urged to promptly inform the police if they notice suspicious individuals or vehicles in their surroundings. Authorities assured that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential. They also reminded residents that they could seek immediate police assistance in case of any problems. Police officials said that the operation was successfully completed with coordinated efforts from the district police department and the cooperation of local residents. They confirmed that similar initiatives would continue regularly in the future to ensure public safety and maintain law and order across the district.
